Sploom:
Mathew 10.37 sprang to mind after reading your post
Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
Again, your precious scripture shows what a nasty piece of work your god, if he is real, really is.
If your trying to win people over, you really need to paint your “all loving father” in a beter light.
Sploom:
Im sorry,I dont know what your question is.
I thought I had already answered your big question!
No you quoted a Bible passage to me. (again) .
My question was about your boy ‘coming out’.
You told me what you wouldn’t do …encourage him or disown him.
You did not tell me how you would deal with it, considering it would be at odds with ‘what the Bible tells you to do’'…You know what mate? even saying that phrase amuses me,.surely the Bible is a guide,.a source.of advice to those who believe in it, not an absolute instruction…anyway I digress, what level of support would you give your boy which would mean a compromise, and that you were at odds with your religion.
What I am getting at…
Is your religion a priority over your family?
ie one of the aspects that makes it dangerous that I referred to before.

Matthew 10:37 (which he quoted above…) answers that question.
He is not answering the question directly, like a politician, but it is clear that his son (or daughter) would be disowned or at best marginalised. god wills it.
Funny how all the quotations and passages are no different when taken from the Koran,Talmud or any other religious tract. This is no different to the verbal garbage spouted by the brainwashed Taliban or Isis.Just show how clergy can brainwash people in their pursuit of power & control whatever the religion.

Not funny at all mate, it’s all just a varied version of the same thing, made up by people of ancient primitive times
That was my whole point, it’s amazing,.not to mention puzzling, that modern and usually level.headed people still believe it all in modern society,.when it all belongs to and pertains to a time prior to the Dark ages .
I would have to seek advice from the pastor or one of the elders on how to deal with it.But its nit something Im going to be faced with ,so I never gave it much thought to be honest.
No comprimise though. There is another Bible verse fir that if you dont mind me putting it here
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Hi RR,I wasn’t being light hearted about it,maybe I should have written sad or frightening, which it is to see how easily people are brainwashed into believing something without any basis in fact.
Why should one have to '‘serve’'God or money.God is supposed to help & guide one in life, not dictate.Money is a means to support one in life.

So reading between the lines, in your non committal reply (masked with the usual nonsense) , Presumably if your ‘Pastor’ told you it was totally unacceptable, and you had to make a choice between supporting your own son, or an organisation , you would disown your lad…
Wow!..well that certainly says a lot doesn’t it.
Your church sounds like an organisation that most right thinking,.and especially family orientated people would avoid, irrespective of the amount of ‘‘faith’’ they had.
Christian values my arse.
We are never called to disown anyone, thats not what we are about. They would say its unacceptable, yes. But they wouldnt tell me not to support him.
We are an independent church so not associated with the established churches you are referring to.It is necessary to collect money from members, they have bills to pay and staff salaries for those who work there full time, and theres nothing wrong with that

You serve God by doing His will, whatever that might be ,whether its feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, treating others as you would like to be treated and so on.But its not a dictatorship. You dont have to do any of these things. Its voluntary.
Don’t drive with the window down an inch
30 + years later you pay by losing 75% of your hearing in your right ear.
I had a habit of dropping the air in the drivers seat, I’m tall so always felt too high up, 30 + years later you find out your spine has done the work the air seat was designed to do.
Adjusting the seat came with a bill for a new left knee, I couldn’t get the seat back far enough in most wagons.
Manual gear box for a lot of years didnt help my knee in any way.shape or form.
Remember if you regularly jump off units or a trailer you will pay for it in the future.
That’s my take on health risks associated with wagon driving.
Bloody hell , how long have you got . 30% hearing with tinnitus , retired at 62 with angina , spinal stenosis (displaced vertebra ) lung cancer ( gotta love Gardners )and copd , too many cigs from boredom . But despite all that I’me still plodding on at 80 . Gave up the cigs but the downside is no alcohol allowed since 2004 because of medication . Wife says I’m a grumpy old sod , but I reckon I’m entitled .

I know you’ve given up replying to me, but there you go again. The contradiction of your scriptures. Only a few posts above, you quoted Matthew 10:37 , explaining your ever loving father condemned you if you have the temerity to love your parents or children more than him. And now you tell me that it’s all a bit of a rough idea, and that it doesn’t really matter.
I wouldn’t mind if you used the bible (or any of the holy story books) to guide you, and judge others, as long as these fairytales would be consistent.

I dont have any credibilty unless Im abke to defend my position…but please remind me of your point …
Its voluntary to do good works, insofar as you have the choice ,is it not.But I didnt say it doesnt matter, thats the point.
As for the gospel message of the Bible,I dont think it would be right to change it or make it more acceptable,in order to win more people over because that would be decieving people and I dont want to do that.
So you think it is right to use a 2000yr old book full of stories, such as a snake telling a woman not to eat an apple,a guy wandering in the desert for 40 days without water or a bloke walking on water, raising the dead & feeding 5000 people with a couple of herrings is acceptable to win people over in the 21st century.Hmm.And according to this book of tales the first 2 people on earth looked like Barbie & Ken,puts Darwin in his place. No wonder neanderthals looked so grumpy.
