Help Identifying an HGV Firm

MrHappy:

Fileep:
Just watched the news video, I think he’s got a good point… The cars and pedestrians are total numpties in his clips. Don’t forget he’s a Doctor who could be used to dealing with RTA’s and doesn’t want to be the victim of one himself. If you look at the top of the page, it says PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS FORUM…not many drivers sounding professional to me, which on here is quite sad.

Yes. In HIS clips. He doesn’t go to any great lengths to show the hundreds of drivers who drove perfectly well does he? He’s just one of those ■■■■■ who’s got a bee in his bonnet about drivers and wants to get his smackable face on telly.

Umm, errr, two of my recent videos:

As for smackable, you certainly could try, instead let me give you a big hug…

Only a quickie, then I’m outta here…is this legal? I have been told by a copper and the local council that it is illegal for me to put up a video camera watching my car in the street without putting up warning signs - something to do with expectations of privacy and Data Protection Act. Just wondering…

Maybe watch your second video posted on here back. You should should take up acting as one of your ‘hobbies’.
I actually felt quite sorry for you after first video but do not anylonger.
As for being ‘internet hardmen’ no! And I shall also give Bicycle riders all the room we need to both go on safely on our way as I have always done.
I would like to point out that I have had bicylce riders hanging onto the back of my trailer in London but I didn’t drive to the nearest police station to ‘book em’! Nor get my olympus 500 out to get a clear shot of the crim! NO!
It just happens and thats life I’m afraid.
Good luck in your war my friend, I’ve said my piece.

Perfectly legal. I have had correspondence with the information commissioner about this and filming and posting on youtube in this way is exempt from the Data Protection act under the ‘recreation’ exclusion. No need to warm anyone if you are filming in a public place.

.

Get yourself out on a bike and have a lorry pass you as fast and as close and see how you feel.

magnatom:
Apologies for not being back. Shock horror but I actually have a life away from the internet. Yesterday I had an important meeting to attend and I had some networking to do afterwards.

Let me just clear a few things up. I am not on a wind up. My biggest mistake was possibly posting this in the wrong part of the forum. I am genuinely interested in finding out the company and contacting them. What do I want to gain from that? The same thing I have gained from contacting other companies, confirmation that the driver will be shown the err of his ways, and a commitment to improve their drivers training with regards to more vulnerable road users.
Am I surprised by the reaction here? Not really, although some posters have made suggestions that I will follow up, so thanks for that! Do I think that because there are some idiot on a web forum who like to think they are ‘internet hard men’ (see here The Mind of a Helmet Camera Cyclist: I Should be Dead by Now for a post aimed just at you! Hugs!), that all HGV drivers are idiots. Quite the opposite. On numerous occasions I have pointed out that in general HGV drivers are the best around cyclists. My views on that will not change because of a few knuckle draggers on here, who haven’t managed to evolve beyond the playground.

Will I be posting a link to this from my blog? Of course not. What I will do, and was planning on doing anyway, is discuss the relationship of the view expressed on forums like this (and cycling forums) to the views of those who don’t post on the internet. I think that is an interesting subject.

Am I sad, well, that is all relative isn’t it. I have a lovely family, a nice house, an interesting job (which I may be changing for something even more interesting if a few things work out), and a great hobby with some great online and offline friends. To those who ridicule me, have a look at yourselves and ask, who is sad, you or me?

Anyway if you really want to find out more about me, look at my blog, follow my twitter etc. Unlike nearly everyone on here, I don’t hide behind anonymity, and yet I am the one called the ■■■■■ etc.

Mmmmm.

So its fair to assume then that you take part in a similar crusade to educate cyclists as to the error of THEIR ways? A few clips of the things that cyclists get up to might have gained you a bit more credibility.

I’m sure if you cared to come down and have a ride round London, where you will be surrounded on the morning commute by like minded people, you would no doubt have one of the biggest shocks of your life at the way some of these suicidal cyclists perform.

Anyway, I take nothing back, you’ve made it perfectly clear what you are and there is clearly no further point in trying to make you understand why you have received the responses that you have. I can only assume that Carryfast is a member of your club.

Ride safe :smiling_imp:

You mean like these:

and these where I openly post my own mistakes

This one I specifically point out my mistake of undercutting a HGV

Does any of this help my credibility (I haven’t even linked the times when I fall off!)

Don’t hold you breath, this section of an otherwise great website is knuckle dragger territory :unamused:

I resent this comment, and quite frankly it’s comments like these that creates the animosity you seem to be so critical of.

In my experience, most truck drivers have been the subject of unnecessary and uncalled for tirades by other road users, including bike riders, so it is unreasonable to expect them to have a lot of sympathy for those that deliberately put themselves in harm’s way, and then complain about it!

I’ll assume that these are clips of cyclists performing badly, in the same way you’ve assumed I really can’t be bothered to watch them. (correct) If so then congratulations, a point well made. However, I still can’t figure why you would come on here, did you HONESTLY expect any different treatment from what you’ve received? And any reply to my earlier post, one of the more serious one’s I made regarding a trucker using a similar introduction to yours at the top of this thread, going on a cycling forum and asking for help i.d’ing a cyclist? I seriously doubt it would have garnered any more help/sympathy than you’ve enjoyed here.

I think the outcome of the whole thing is that we all know there are good and bad road users for every type of vehicle (see my earlier post) and all you’ve managed to achieve is to show a few instances of everyday driving/riding that we’re all familiar with anyway.

Still, it kept me amused for a while.

Indeed they are. You suggest that my credibility would be helped if I did that. I do, so I thought I’d just point it out.

I mentioned earlier I wasn’t surprised by the reaction. I haven’t moaned about it. I’ve tried to answer questions in a reasonable manner. However, I know for a fact that there are a few good cycle forums where not only would HGV drivers be welcomed (and help given to ID a cyclist), but I know plenty of HGV drivers that also cycle and do go on those forums!

I completely agree that there are bad and good in every mode of transport and that is the point I always try to make. On that note why not listen to me chatting on 5live a few month back. That’ll probably amuse you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nje8_PiaH-A

I just don’t get some folk… If a cyclist rides like a ■■■■ chances are he is going to be the one who comes of worst and that’s his/her problem… If a professional HGV driver drives like a ■■■■ chances are there will be only be one loser… and in most cases this WILL NOT be the HGV driver, whether it be car, motor bike or cyclist. We get a bad enough press as it is without going out of are way to wind the public up!

How are we winding the public up? By posting videos of ■■■■■■■■■ on Youtube? I only know of one person in this thread doing that…

sorry the [zb] should have read “idiot drivers” Getting lazy with my vocabulary…

I’d love to have a listen, but i’ve just painted this wall you see and i’m just off to watch the paint dry. I can’t see any further point in continuing this as you’ve obviously got more links that you’re dying to post and i’m slowly losing the will to live, so, out of sheer persistence on your part, I hand you the Golden Yorkie bar, congratulations Mr. Helmet Cam, knight of the road, seeking to right all wrongs perpetrated by anything motorised, I give up. :unamused:

I was right, definitely related to Carryfast.

Excellent. As I cycle 24 miles a day I can eat Yorkie Bars without worrying about my weight! Do they come in king size!

I can’t believe the fury this clip has aroused in some of you so called pro drivers. The lorry driver in the clip was in the wrong, but you seem to be taking it as an attack against all lorry drivers.

As for videoing it and posting it on youtube … why not? How many clips have been posted here when a nobber in a car pulls a stupid move to overtake an ‘annoying slow’ truck?

This bloke is a troll, pure and simple.

His sole purpose of coming on here was to wind up as many people as possible. He knew exactly what sort of reaction his original post would get, the same as the one he posted last year.

Dont give him the time of day, the more you react and bite the more he loves it, it gives him a sense of self importance.

One day, if HE is not careful, his silly games between himself and 44 tonnes of truck will bite him in the backside and magnatom could well become a very squashed Flatatom.!!

Fair point, but having gone back through the whole thread, some good points have been made by various people. The idea of a forum is that you can make your opinion known and although some posters have chosen to attack the fella, on the whole, I don’t think he got battered too much. I’ve said (twice) that I agree the truck was too close and while some of my comments were probably bordering on offensive, I also made a few points that I felt were reasonable and were answered fairly, although I reached the conclusion that I was fighting a losing battle.

Sometimes its better to accept that a person has a different point of view and to leave it at that.

As my ex boss used to say, “You’re entitled to your opinion, even though its the wrong one.”

THE LORRY WAS TOO CLOSE

Is everyone happy now…

I think it’s only a matter of time before the wrong person spots him on the road and resorts to violence. I’m sure it’ll happen. You see, I have seen magnatit on the road. At the traffic lights at Anniesland cross. I think he’s a ■■■■■■ but lucky for him I can keep my cool and not resort to such things. I will however laugh so hard if he does get attacked by someone because if there ever was a person asking for it then it’s him!

And if we’re all very quiet…ssshhhhhhh… and just ignore him, he’ll get bored and go away. The Karma Police get us all in the end don’t forget :sunglasses:
