I knew before clicking on this thread that there would be a load of knuckle-dragging anti-cycling ■■■■■■■■ on here and I was proved right.
I do a lot of cycling (2,500miles a year) and would say that the cyclists road position is ok. I know from experience that if you ride too close to the kerb then you have nowhere to go if someone gets too close or there is a sudden gust of wind. Its basic roadcraft, just as you might sit a wagon out more into the road to ‘dominate’ a narrowing space and aim to slow an oncoming car who thinks he’s Lewis Hamilton.
I would say that the wagon is too close but not excessively. IMO, the whole thing is a storm in a teacup. The youtube video is a bit excessive, bit too ‘attention grabby’ for my liking but some of the comments on here just reinforce the stereotype of the average trucker - intolerant road warriors.

I know what forums like this can be like, but beyond the noise there are always the good people who are open minded and willing to help, so I thought I’d give a go
Don’t hold you breath, this section of an otherwise great website is knuckle dragger territory
Why do cyclists feel the need to record peoples poor driving and then spend time uploading it to youtube? just get a life FFS, you aint gonna change the poor driving standards in this country.
My view is simply, give the biker plenty of room when you pass, but at the next set of lights sit as close to the kerb as you can to stop the sod undertaking you down your blindside and having to start the process again, Afterall were all using the same road so the same rules apply, Overtaking yes, Undertaking No.
If I’d been driving that RAV4 that he got beside near the end of his video and asked if he had a problem, I’d have been out like a bullet and sat him on his arrise !
This crap is tantamount to breaching the forum rules on identifying drivers by registration numbers, not directly but through various godbothering, cycling sites and YouTube of course.
The title needs deleting along with the rest of the thread, it serves no purpose other than to bully and abuse!
Through this knob riding along with a pre planned agenda, there may be three kids sat at home with no food on the table now
these "serious lycra types"arnt just commuting, thery are actually"working out",thats why they dont want to stop.fair dues, but wearing a camera on your head says an awful lot about a person to me.yes the truck is too close but he is no different to you i.e. a ■■■■■■■■■■■ ride around camered up hopeful that something goes wrong so that you can “tell tales”.i bet you`re onto the local plod for every little thing that annoys you in life-kids playing football, loud music, parking outside your house etc.you are a cry baby anti everything apart from you and yours.■■■■ HAPPENS GET OVER IT

… not to mention you could of been further left as you were pretty much in the middle of the road.
rubberduckY1234:
i have to say for a cyclist you are taking up a lot of road so its your own fault
A cycle is entitled to use the whole width of the lane they are in
It is up to the road user overtaking them to give them the space that they are entitled to
Many who have been driving for a long time often tend to be a little lax on the thinking about this type of issue but for someone just out of basic LGV training this should be fresh in their mind…
Us motorcyclists are trained to use a whole lane. Why not bicycles.? The law says they can’t ride on the footpath.
So give up the ■■■■■ and give them room. Simple as.
I’ve read between the lines of FarnboroughBoys’ post and it should frighten The Purple Helmet
FarnboroughBoy11:
I dont mind cyclists I give them plenty of arse if im waiting to pass and im not fussed how long it takes untill i can However if then i arrive up ahead and the cyclist comes outside of me (he cant come down the inside as ive purposely blocked it off) when the lights go green ive got to do it all again behind him , and this time he will get the horn from me lycra bulging calves and tiny penisis.

I agree with that, it is called commanding the road. My worry is that this pillock deliberately goes out to antagonise with a video camera attached to his head. If it is on his head I didn’t see him look back much or move left when he realised how close the lorry was. Do they teach the lifesaver on the Cycling Proficiency Test?

I didn’t think he was way out, I cycle far enough out to avoid the crap like glass and thorns and to avoid sunken manholes but the lorry could’ve given him more room; it wasn’t like the road was single track.
Before anybody says it was me driving, it wasn’t-too many wheels on that tipper
I dunno why i’m still posting on this thread as the whole thing has clearly been designed as a wind up, but having just seen the fella on that news clip, its clear to see what he’s all about. Any one of us could film our daily drive and show any number of bad driving clips by truck/van/bus/car drivers, bikers and cyclists, but most of us don’t because we’re not sad ■■■■■.
Having said that, he’s got the kind of face i’d never get tired of slapping, and if you’re reading this knob head, get yourself down to Croydon one of these days, i’d like to see how close I could get to ya

right the next time im down in ye olde london town i’m going to film all the dodgy cyclists antics and put them on youtube and moan and ■■■■■ about not giving us poor drivers enough room
Just watched the news video, I think he’s got a good point… The cars and pedestrians are total numpties in his clips. Don’t forget he’s a Doctor who could be used to dealing with RTA’s and doesn’t want to be the victim of one himself. If you look at the top of the page, it says PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS FORUM…not many drivers sounding professional to me, which on here is quite sad.
Apologies for not being back. Shock horror but I actually have a life away from the internet. Yesterday I had an important meeting to attend and I had some networking to do afterwards.
Let me just clear a few things up. I am not on a wind up. My biggest mistake was possibly posting this in the wrong part of the forum. I am genuinely interested in finding out the company and contacting them. What do I want to gain from that? The same thing I have gained from contacting other companies, confirmation that the driver will be shown the err of his ways, and a commitment to improve their drivers training with regards to more vulnerable road users.
Am I surprised by the reaction here? Not really, although some posters have made suggestions that I will follow up, so thanks for that! Do I think that because there are some idiot on a web forum who like to think they are ‘internet hard men’ (see here The Mind of a Helmet Camera Cyclist: I Should be Dead by Now for a post aimed just at you! Hugs!), that all HGV drivers are idiots. Quite the opposite. On numerous occasions I have pointed out that in general HGV drivers are the best around cyclists. My views on that will not change because of a few knuckle draggers on here, who haven’t managed to evolve beyond the playground.
Will I be posting a link to this from my blog? Of course not. What I will do, and was planning on doing anyway, is discuss the relationship of the view expressed on forums like this (and cycling forums) to the views of those who don’t post on the internet. I think that is an interesting subject.
Am I sad, well, that is all relative isn’t it. I have a lovely family, a nice house, an interesting job (which I may be changing for something even more interesting if a few things work out), and a great hobby with some great online and offline friends. To those who ridicule me, have a look at yourselves and ask, who is sad, you or me?
Anyway if you really want to find out more about me, look at my blog, follow my twitter etc. Unlike nearly everyone on here, I don’t hide behind anonymity, and yet I am the one called the ■■■■■ etc.
Yes first video you were not given enough room, In the second video I watched and made comment on, IMO the driver could have had you in the blind spot and was miles away from your shrieking reaction. You then went on to try and have the driver prosecuted.
As has been said before, we as lorry drivers have our fair share of being cut up and treated like scum ourselves.
If you feel the need to pull the driver out of the cab and give him a nut then feel free but to go around with your head-cam vigile and looking for drivers to post it on youtube then honestly mate you need to find some other hobby!

Yes. In HIS clips. He doesn’t go to any great lengths to show the hundreds of drivers who drove perfectly well does he? He’s just one of those ■■■■■ who’s got a bee in his bonnet about drivers and wants to get his smackable face on telly.
It is a professional driver’s forum and a lot of the posts have made reasonable points, some like myself have made some in a sarcastic manner due to the nature of the wind up post, some have made reasonable points and some clearly hate cyclists altogether. You can’t please all the people all the time though can you?

You see this is the problem. Why do people think I ‘go looking’ for trouble. I don’t. I cycle to and from work. I just look to enjoy my cycling and to get from A to B safely. However, things happen during that A to B that sometimes endanger me. So I got a helmet camera to document that and to let people who have no experience of cycling what is can sometimes be like when other road users don’t take your safety into account.
How is this looking for anything? i don’t have to look, this is what actually happens up and down the country to many many cyclists.
