Well done, if you go to Europe be sure to have an attestation activity letter with you to show the traffic officers if you have no tacho records for the last 28 days, your boss should print a form on the internet for you, the fine is from 2000 to 3000 euros without it.
Carry blank CMR forms for your loading points, most factories may have the CMR done for you, but not all do.
If you wear glasses, you need to carry a spare pair for Spain, and check which countries require two warning triangles for breakdowns, one in front of the truck and one behind it.
Also the wearing of high viz vest/jacket when you are broken down.
A few basic tools to get you out of trouble, a spare suzi line, electric lines for the trailer, in case they get stolen or broken.
Buy a book that lists the Rouitier restaurants in France, free parking good value and quality food.
Find the website that lists all the truck bans, and they start the evening before the holiday starts, so planning the journey time for ferry bookings will have to be calculated. Some cab door locks would be a good idea, some tie the cab doors with ratchet straps at night, but if there was a fire, there is no time to get out.And breathe
okey,do you have to carry breathalyzers in france now?
Apparently yes, got 2 in my cab but never been asked to see them, but saying that, I’m very rarely in France these days
Congrats matey, I’ve not tried Europe yet, not for lack of balls, I’ve aplied but never been lucky enough to get the job.
Well done and enjoy

Hey, I’ve got that set, so you owe me a drink if I make it to this years charity thingy for the royalties - don’t panic, some drinks are free, I don’t want 1 of those…
Congratulations on the new job, sounds like you’ve done well on getting a Euro tramping job. Loads of help to be found on the Euro Forum, you’ll soon work out who’s advice to take.
There have been people on here who have been a great help to me over the years, some even going beyond the forum to give me really good advice.

be careful Harry expanding into rail will bring down the wrath of Carryfast. I did wonder if you’d been expanding you’re operation when I saw a ship called Southern Star moored in Gt Yarmouth the other day.

Yes, that’s mine too.
Thanks for all advice so far.
Sorry I do know my wage, I was meaning more of I don’t know what’s the average for tramping.

Your wage is your business, no one elses.
If its low, then it gets you on the road and gain some experience, if its decent, fair play to you mate.
Enjoy.

that’s ok then I was not getting at you with my earlier comments but I no what some companies are like
It’s fine mate, I know you weren’t having a go.
Just about to head to bed now ready for my early start. Up out of curiosity, how do you all get paid?
LukeFR:

It can vary, it really is something you need to ask the bloke. Typically, week in hand so anything you did this week would be paid on Friday 11th January 2013, although some firms pay “end of month”.
A really rough guide ( couple of years since I tramped ) would be £100 / day .Thats after tax &insurance . I’m not getting into the night out debate - its around £25 /night - you can count it as part of your wage or as compensation for living in a truck - your choice .
Theres plenty of advice in the forums about what gear you need - read it and make up your mind on what you want to get - all I will say is buy quality gear thats well recommended as the cheap and cheerful stuff is just that - its OK for a weekend camper but if your going to be running it 24/7 and depending on it you want to take your time and make sure it’s up to the job.
Take your time , don’t be scared to ask for advice / help as and when you need it and most of all enjoy yourself .Good luck .
Thanks again everyone for advice.
Today has been really good, planner seems a nice guy and the truck I have got is nice. R420 Topline with manual box, microwave, coffee makers with fridge/freezer, night heater, double bunk and its a pleasure to drive.
Currently parked up for night.
Good man for keeping us up to date. Glad to hear your day has gone well and you are happy with your truck!
