That will be the dogging site where the tea van used to be :stuck_out_tongue:

Having read through peoples input tp this thread …

The only sensible reply is that of “dave the renagade” …

I havent seen anybody protesting outside the local scania , daf , mercedes , iveco dealers ect …thy increase theyre prices as they see fit …I bought a R480 topline in 2008 and to buy the same truck today would cost thousands more , where’s the difference ?

If costs escalate then adjust the rate accordingly and if the customer wont pay then walk away if there is not sufficient margin in said job !!

We cant lay the sole blame of “the job being ■■■■■■” at the door of the chancellor ! , We have to take responsibility ourselves …maybe the job is ■■■■■■ due to the fact it is incorrectly priced with insuffiecient or no margin at all and or no fuel escalator which rises instantly with the fuel !! .

If we were shopkeepers and the price of apples doubled we wouldnt continue to sell them at last years price would we ■■

And we also wouldnt stand outside the apple wholesalers and protest …!

On a friday afternoon i get my fuel price , if the fuel price hasnt risen or maybe dropped then the rate stays the same but if it has risen then up the rate goes and if “joe bloggs haulage” will do it cheaper then let the ■■■■ do it …

In short charge enough to make a profit or pack up …those of us who arent afraid to make a stand will prosper !!

I think you have hit the nail on the head robdorling,
there’s to many o/ds who wont or cant do owt else i’ve packed up the work that dont pay and havent missed it one bit
rebuilt a tractor engine last week, finishing refurbing a short trailer next week, sawing logs for the last 2 days a change is as good as a rest!
have done a bit of driving for good payers and festival season starts in may so i’ll be back on the road then.

Good call Moose

February is here and allways a low month so im off skiing next week …Dads answering the phones so that should be interesting …

Trucks can stand for a few weeks if its quiet and ill mkae the most of it and have a well deserved rest after all that “proftable” work ive been doing …even did christmas day … but its only a day to me but it to the customer it means dig deep this is gonna sting your wallet …

Happy days ,

btw allways on the lookout for short trailers i run them now rather than rigids …

If you was a shopkeeper and the price of apples doubled in a month, not a year, and then you try to get this months price, not last month’s price, you’ll probably get your price but the money you’re paid with at that point will be worth a third of what it was last month. :bulb: :open_mouth:

past it tonight about 2030 and it was jammed with cars and police looked like it was a good turnout (if anyone seen me i was in a white nhs truck  coming back from arrow park

I see. So what have you achieved then, exactly? Will my fuel now be cheaper to buy?

Just filled up my car and it is the same price it was on wednesday
Obviously your plan of driving around wasting fuel and inconveniencing other road users who are trying to get somewhere did not bring the price of fuel down, whats you plan B? go around every roundabout twice or try and get more signatures on a pointless petition   face it, unless everyone is happy to travel to london and turn the place upside down like they done with the poll tax riots then nothing is gonna change.

Saw nothing bout it on BBC news today and theirs Nowt on their website about, google only returns the daily post, as much as I’d like fuel to be £1 a litre it’s never gonna happen with the state of the country, it’s an easy tax for them so do u think they are gonna put it down to a reasonable price?

If they don’t put it down to a reasonable price the catch 22 of recession versus inflation, that the present rate of tax is going to cause in the economy, will wipe out the value of what they’re getting by leaving it as it is because the value of a pound will end up more like 30 p. :unamused: :open_mouth:

It seems the biggest news about Stanlow is that it has been sold off to the Indians with Essar Oil :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh and a few lines about some people in cars driving around with a faulty horn

I had a vehicle at the last protest at stanlow in 2000 , did it make a difference well yes the government dropped the road tax and by doing so it gave the operator the option of leaving the truck in the yard if the rate was rubbish, The biggest problem with this industry is too many operators have insufficient funds to operate with and also they have not got a clue what it is costing them to run a truck. ( maritime pay £ 1.21 per mile ) well more fool you for trying to run on rates like that you need a average of at least £ 1.60 per mile or your doomed to failure, is diesel too expensive well in my opinion no it is not we all have to pay the same so that is fair competition . We would do better to campaign to stop the cash & carry of limited companies and make the directors personally responsible for their debts you cannot compete with a firm who does not pay its bills.

How can it be fair competition when someone can just send the freight by air or rail with no road fuel duty or by cheap east european operators probably running on fuel that they’ve bought cheaper in other EU states and using subsidised equipment  .

The amount of reserve funds are set by the O Licencing authorities so that’s the same for everyone and the costs of running a truck are self evident and are fixed anyway on the balance sheet every month.Which at the end of the day just leaves competition based on what the driver is willing to work for and keeping costs down by trying to use capital more efficiently to,at least try to,compete with those east european operators and survive under the anti road transport policies, which the government are using in order to make truck operators either close down or put up their rates to unsustainable levels. But if a firm needs to rely on reserve funds it just means that it’s cash flow and/or turnover is’nt enough anyway and raising rates will just make that issue worse by losing more of it’s customers.

Which means that putting up rates to compensate for an unsustainable fuel tax is suicidal in the long term just like the road fuel tax is itself in pushing the country into a choice between recession or inflation and/or maybe even both :open_mouth: :unamused: .

turbostar i 100% agree on the ltd co point, if the directors were responsible this would stop a lot working for such crap rates as there would be to much risk to all involved
i think this needs looking at more than the price of fuel

We should be more like the Fren…, Egyptians!

carryfast the government wants the freight off the roads so it will do all it can to make this happen ( its what the public want )
