You’ll find people do that when carrying valuable loads, so rarther than the load being knicked they block the doors using the unit. It’s not to get away from the fridge.
For the record I’ve never driven a Reefer, but have no problems with them. I have problems with jumped up little parasites with a Vigilante fetish…

I only drove fridges for 10 years & never had a problem sleeping with the motor on, you just get used to It…
Unfortunately for the Tautliner driver, we are a menace. Sorry about that… 
Most fridge drivers do take Into consideration the other truck drivers, which Is why most fridge drivers park out the way In a corner If we can find space, of course…
What I’m trying to say here Is: Sometimes It’s easier to annoy one Tautliner driver than annoying 30 Tautliner drivers by parking ‘said fridge’ In amongst them…

Done my time on fridges a while back and this is an issue all over Europe. The Spanish used to be some of the worst for moaning about running fridges. I have woken in the night on a few occasions to find it knocked off and a spanish tilt alongside. I used to get out and fire it up again then sit in the seat with the curtain open until the driver looked out. Once he saw you watching he’d close the curtain and it was ok then until the morning.
Fast forward to today and I’m pulling medical scanners around, mostly at night. Some of these need to be powered constantly so will run between sites with an inboard generator. Now I need to take my breaks like anybody else and it’s amazing how often I’ll pull onto a service area to find the lorry park around 50% full but trucks all spread about. Now in this instance I’m afraid some poor driver will have to put up with a motor running while I’m in for my break, what else can you do?.
I have had the odd hero giving me the “if you don’t turn it off, I bloody well will”. Usually when I point out the consequences and costs involved in such actions they slope away but if not I find making a show of noting there company name and reg usually does the trick. On one occasion a particularly snotty driver got a spoof phone call to his transport manager the following day pointing out the costs implications of his drivers threats and he was not pleased to say the least.
This problem will continue for time ever more and the attitude of “just turn it off” isn’t an option in these days of satellite tracking. Segregated parking is probably the way forward but from my experience even when parked on your own in an empty park some idiot will draw up next to you and start giving out about the motor running.

I had that thought ages ago, a lot of little fridge vans have the plug for a caravan type socket for parking overnight, doing the same in an MSA would help a lot.
