Mr B:
Jd had had a bad day and posted a sick, tasteless comment for which he regretted in the cold light of day but the mods should also apologise for their failure to delete it to prevent bringing the entire site into disrepute.
Speaking as a normal member and not in any way claiming that this is the view of the mod or admin team as a whole, it is my personal view that someone posting a comment like that which is then universally lambasted should actually raise the opinion of this site in any normal thinking person who reads the thread in its entirety as it quite clearly shows that the vast majority of members find it an unacceptable view.
Anyone who is short sighted enough to use a single post to form a view of this (or any other) site is probably not worth worrying about.
Paul
My point is if the press want a lazy quote to show how the average trucker thinks they won’t choose the hundreds expressing sympathy and regret it’ll be JDs comment in the daily mail.
Censorship has never been a problem on this site it’s only a question of who gets censored.

edmund king from the aa, being interviewed on c4 news, news man asks is it time for goods vehicles fuel tanks to be looked at?? edmund king says it is time to look at them as there have been other instances this week where fuel tanks have caused motorway chaos. m25 and m6 this week
i dont see what else can be done with hgv fuel tanks so dont really see where they were coming from
That aside… What is that tubular thing full of petroleum spirit that tankers contain called? Oh…tank. I see a problem!

To paraphrase my previous post, anyone who is short signed enough to use a single quote they read in the Daily Mail (or any other newspaper for that matter) to form a view on an entire industry is in my opinion probably not worth worrying about.
That aside any newspaper or other media organisation that quotes anything from here without permission from the original poster is breaking copyright law anyway - see the note in red at the bottom of every page.

There is no other place to mount them so the only thing that could be done is surround it with some sort of high impact/absorption material - they are really easy to puncture. Ive seen 2 puncture at low speeds in yards against little crash barriers.
Im not sure on the construction of fuel tankers but id assume they are almost bomb proof within reason ie they could take a rollover and still not spill a drop.
This thread is about an accident, which involved more than 30 vehicles, and a minimum of seven fatalities, yet some members still feel the need to make jokes and continue to chat general ■■■■■■■■ and discuss matters which really are not important neither relevant at this moment in time. There are other places on this forum for jokes and banter, this is not one of those.
Hopefully we will see a major motorway driving campaign from this, some of the driving we see from members of the public on our motorways is shocking, but nothing is ever done about it and things like this happen. Maybe this is a wake up call. It makes me wonder if this horrific collision was caused by a bad driver’s mistake, who simply carried on totally oblivious to the carnage that had just happened.
My condolences to those involved and the families of the diciest. It hit home when a witness of the accident simply said: “it could have been me, or you”.
Are they suggesting it was the diesel in the truck tanks which caused the fire? I would have thought it was more likely petrol splashing onto the hot engine of one of the crashed cars which initiated it. The diesel might have later fuelled the fire but I don’t see it starting it.
Puting the behaviour of car drivers aside, in my honest opinion the cause of many HGV accidents on motorways today are due to speed limiters. You join a motorway and slot in on which something like resembles a conveyer belt, thus you are sat there unable to make any head way with the vehicle in front or pull away from the vehicle behind with only feet between each vehicle. I have always said speed limiters are a recipe for disaster, as with out doubt, they cause major bunching up of HGV’s with no one easing off the pedal to leave a safe distance. I drive night trunk, and can from experience, tell you that i have seen it take from Keele to Knutsford services for one HGV to pass another with neither willing to give way. I don’t pull over any more to let someone on at a slip road, as you are left stuck in the middle lane for miles elephant racing with the driver on the inside who wont back off…
I would like to make a comment on this thread. I think it is unfortunate that this thread has expanded into fruitless and ill judged statement after statement. Surely we have to pick up the key facts, which I see are:-
It was a tragic event, which we hope we never see again.
I would think that amongst the dead, there may be one of our own.
Negative press is bound to centre on the roll of the HGV in this Incident.
Any “Outsider” looking at this forum, will be shocked at the arrogant, poor taste, and argumentative postings flying about.
Now, the crap is going to fly - some may stick. Life on the road will put us into the public eye even more so than ever before. We carry the nation day in day out - whether we carry Grain, Steel or Parcels in our trucks and trailers. We need to be uniform in what we do - get from A to B without a trip to C ( Casualty).
RIP and Condolences to those who have lost someone.
My thoughts are with them, and the Emergency services too, as that must be something they wont want to see again.

No chance of anything except maybe a couple of mild motorway safety ads because drivers are voters and more of them survive to vote than get killed so the Govt will not want to upset them

+1
Diesel is about as flammable as water when its cold.

I was going to post something similar. Let’s not argue over this horrific incident and remember, we’re going to home to our families, those poor unfortunate souls aren’t.

Benni, sorry to ‘dice and slice’ your post.Totally agree with all that you say.Semtex’s post really got to me with the fuel stop etc…A minute earlier or later for whatever reason, and your life may be changed forever. Many families involved here in dealing with the aftermath.Strength to them.
wow, looking at some of the comments left on this site and the amount of ignorant people jumping on the “blame the HGV driver” bandwagon is unbelievable, how people can cast aspersions when they have no facts is outrageous. the usual comments of speeding out of control trucks etc etc are being thrown about.
we could all go and post alot more comments of mad things that car drivers do, but what would be the point in that.
until the facts are known what caused this tragedy, i reckon people should have a real think about what they are saying
by the looks of the pictures and reports on the tv there could be anyone of a number of contributing factors to this crash. its close to a on slip, fireworks, fog and wet weather. i’m sure the police will get to the bottom of what happened last night.
but for now condolences to all involved last night, there family and friends. it must be ■■■■■■ horrible having that knock on the door, you wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
I seriously cannot believe that mods are justifying their actions and saying what they have done is the correct way, we are,nt talking hearsay, or 1 guy calling someone else names ect that are the routine posts that are either deleted or locked, we are talking a serious mis judgement of placing a comment,
wether the incident was reported as a minor crash whatever it doesnt matter as we are constantly being reminded by admin not to post something without the facts…
and wether the incident was cars only, trucks vans ect whatever it doesnt deserve the comment…
the fact of read all the posts does not come into it as one poor comment can outdo a hell of a lot of good work,
I,m sure if i had placed the post or some other guys on here it would have been instantly blocked,
