Even if you ignored all the border problems, I can’t imagine that road transport to China could ever be an economic option. 7½ thousand miles over Russia and Kazakhstan and when you get to the Chinese border, you are only two thirds of the way to Beijing.Containers to China are fairly cheap, since most traffic comes the other way, and the biggest problem they face is the possibility of Somalian pirates.
The story is that even the old Middle East traffic was only viable because the economic growth made by oil money outran the increase in docking facilities.
Having said that given the right road building programmes and decent TIR clearing facilities and Russian diesel prices and allowance of doubles type LHV’s the economic viability would arguably be similar to long haul North American work.
The main problem in that case being the one way nature of trade between Europe/UK and China.Probably because the only thing that China has to offer us is its cheap labour.
As for the 7,500 miles that’s around, maybe more than, the distance from Brest to Vladivostok.Whereas Brest to Makanchi is stated as being around 5,000 kms.
China and back in one hit is easy, well I thought it was, parking the arctic up on the High Street delayed me a little while before nipped in the China Palace to pick up some sweet n sour Hong Kong style chicken & egg fried rice, but no issues

But why would you bother? If it’s not time sensitive, load it into a container and put it on a ship. If it needs to be there more rapidly then in a container and onto a train. They already bring containers in to Germany from China by rail so presumably the empties go back the same way, although regardless of direction they need to be transshipped at the Poland/Belarus border as the gauge is wider in former CIS countries than the rest of Europe.

Go Hoek Holland - Harwich route - no immigrant issues there, nice clear drive in. Just back from a Berlin hop, lovely crossing, nice boats, good cabins, good food - road from Hoek to Berlin is a good drive - had a good trip with no worrying about doing the Calais run!
Yeah in Harwich they arrive a container full at a time.

History suggests that the door to door flexibility of road transport usually wins out given the right road transport friendly infrastructure legislative and fuel costs environment. As you’ve described yourself ships are relatively slow and trains can’t even offer a system that doesn’t involve the need for transhipment and all the infrastructure and time that goes with it on route.Let alone from rail to road and vice versa at the delivery and collection point.
As I’ve said given the right fuel costs, infrastructure and legislative environment direct Europe-South East Asia road transport operations could theoretically work in a similar way to North American ones.Maybe even to the point where the trade in balance situation would be an advantage for the road transport option.Being that it would probably be easier to adjust the capacity,of the road transport option,to the beneficial trading situation of balancing capacity with traffic in one direction and under capacity v traffic the other.Which both rail or shipping obviously can’t do.

Pluto is also only a local solar system multi drop run. It’s the inter galactic full load trips where the money is.But it’s dead man’s shoes and those doing it keep quiet about it.The only problem is that every time you eventually get home it’s 500 hundred years in the future and they say that the years spent in cryo sleep causes havoc to your body clock.

…One could always try the LV-426 option…
Nipping to the moon is one thing, but I wouldn’t recommend inter galactic muti-drop.
Spend a lifetime with your head up Uranus.
Joking aside this is getting silly now. WE should just make up with our trading partners the French and let the migrants in anyway. They will just fill all the jobs that the UK can’t fill. All these lorry driving jobs for a start.
Come on Cameron stop playing Hitler and let these poor people join us in the land of milk and honey.

Tris I’m going to assume you’re new to this job and a bit wet behind the ears, I remember my early days of driving and listening to the European driver bs and being slightly impressed.soon wore off though when I realised how many drivers like to share thier Walter Mitty world with any poor bugger that’ll listen.
Despite all the problems in Calais, driving on the mainland
is far better than driving here, yes there are queues, roadworks and checkpoints, but you just seem to be able to get on and when you have to stop the facilities are far better, especially if you know where to go.
If you get the chance to drive into Europe, don’t be put off by the heroic scare stories, give it a go, I doubt you’d regret it.
It’s being put on shunting that does my head in and gets me applying for jobs. Applied for two this evening as I hate everything about shunting work. It’s the sort of job a 60 year old should do, not someone my age.
oow buger56 years old driving 34 years now he tells me all i got to look forward to is shunting im of to get pist and sulk in the corner

might not be to bad just spoke to a bloke in pub and itTRUE HE IS 61dos to shunting jobs derby to australia in a week wonder if kelsa go roo bars
If ever a new road link is built between Europe and China it would be a waste of time of giving the job to a Brit firm to do as they wouldn’t have the millions of cones available to lay six months before they started the work

A link road / rail road will happen it’s only a matter of time imho .
After that who knows!

I knew a lad who left his employment to drive a wagon to China.
So somebody must be doing it.
Get the wheels either side of the miscreants head and foot and just steam on he won’t be so keen to lie in the road again
Try this for the Caiais route - can be translated into many languages
