If we could find the Chinese tank driver from Tiananmen Square no more immigrants at Calais
The talk of killing migrants is unbelievable, but why doesn’t anyone believe he drives to China?

Because its a story as old as the hills. And not a true one.
So no one ever drives to China? Their exports are all shipped and flown, then?

Yes. And trains now too. Road transport has its place and its not driving half way round the world anymore

Which would arguably consign the North American long haul sector to history.
It’s more a matter of infrastructure and political will than any inherent limitations in the road transport mode.

I know you love good ol’ 'Merica Carry but even coast to coast USA isn’t remotely close to ‘halfway round the world’.

A truck load of freight is a truck load of freight run over a distance of around 3,000 miles per week.Wether or not it’s a different load or the same load. While half way round the world means around 9,000 kms in this case so not exactly here to Australia.
The bit I don’t get with the IRU article is why would they want to throw away the load space advantages of using a proper truck by sticking with containers.Assuming it’s a direct door to door link.Which the article suggests still isn’t on the table at present.
While to be fair it would probably take nothing less than a Scandinavian type drawbar outfit able to run at more than 90kmh max to make Kaplan’s idea work and pay.
Awwww, are you suffering from a lack of debates recently? You look desperate to get one going in that post! Maybe someone will bite,…anyone?

I don’t think there is a debate. As it stands, other than being a theoretical possibility, the idea of anyone ‘running from Euroland-China’ is bs.
Hurrah. We agree!

It wasn’t the tank that killed the stand-in-the-way guy though… He got put up against a wall and shot instead. The tank driver was no more keen to run over a fellow citizen than British truckers are to run over anyone at all - it seems.
Imagine if most drivers down there were ex squaddies though… Kinda puts a different spin on it eh?

So are they saying this was an actual pioneering commercial freight hauling exercise between Euroland and China.Or just a non freight carrying publicity stunt statement of possible future intent ?.Assuming the former that’s obviously an interesting breakthrough regarding international road transport.Although sadly, considering it’s previous Middle East pioneering,it seems like the UK road transport industry wasn’t involved.
