Tris I’m going to assume you’re new to this job and a bit wet behind the ears, I remember my early days of driving and listening to the European driver bs and being slightly impressed. soon wore off though when I realised how many drivers like to share thier Walter Mitty world with any poor bugger that’ll listen.
Despite all the problems in Calais, driving on the mainland is far better than driving here, yes there are queues, roadworks and checkpoints, but you just seem to be able to get on and when you have to stop the facilities are far better, especially if you know where to go.
If you get the chance to drive into Europe, don’t be put off by the heroic scare stories, give it a go, I doubt you’d regret it.
It’s being put on shunting that does my head in and gets me applying for jobs. Applied for two this evening as I hate everything about shunting work. It’s the sort of job a 60 year old should do, not someone my age.
Bloody cheeky whippersnappers il have you know I wouldn’t want shunting either and I’m 60 cheeky git[emoji6]

I feel your pain,
But that’s still no excuse for believing the BS from some drivers.
Haven’t the Caribineiri been telling drivers to kill anyone who tries robbing them in Southern Italy for the last 25 years (using any technique you learned in your time in ‘the regiment’, then signing your disc so you can one hit it back to Calais from Naples)?..

Of course they have, that’s old news, it’s a ‘you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours’ sort of situation
There might be a morsel of truth in this, not the China bit but the migrant running down. Many years ago now (shows just how long this nonsense has been going on for) my dad came in to Calais and everything was diverted off round through the old Hovercraft terminal and a would be illegal tried blocking the road in font of my dad to make him stop etc. A nearby police officer frantically waved me dad on and he duly hit the offending illegal at slow speed. Now he was only doing 5 or 10mph so its not like the police officer was endorsing “murder” or the like but apparently the illegal flew off on to the grass like a sack of spuds and it must surely have been enough for some broken bones if nothing else.
And no, my father wasn’t coming back from China at the time.

No that was deffo only in the case of Sicily and only then based on use of reasonable force which limits ammo to no more than 5 magazines.
Tris:
The driver I spoke to said he wouldn’t even slow down.
Unless he’s a psychopath then yes he will. No person in their right mind would deliberately drive over someone laid in the road.
I suspect a lot of what he says smells very much like what comes out of a cows backside.
This is a real debate this one… The vast majority of us will have never killed anyone in their lives, let alone deliberately.
What does one do though when faced with a situation that may well involve your life and livlihood being ruined at the hands of some toerag whom the police do nothing about “because of the Strasbourg Yuman Rights” ■■■■■■■■?
Does anyone think for a minute that these criminals would stop coming here - if it became apparent that us northern Europeans, let alone Brits - had “open season” upon them?
The ones turning up dead right now are falling into machinery, off moving vehicles, and other such “misadventure” deaths.
If someone clamboured into the freezer and one decided not to stop to let their mates get in as well - would it not be the case that one is by ommission “deliberately killing them”?
Most likely of course “things will have to get a LOT worse” before laid-back Tory-voting southeasterners will consider the possibility that Farage was right all along, and change their collective minds about “diplomacy with Brussels” being the correct way to deal with the euro-wide illegal immigrant situation.
Deeireland:
I’m of to India on the 14 August 6 week round trip via Calais then all road.very specialised load.
So China is possible
Running over immigrants that’s utter nonsense .

6 weeks in customs
luke how you getting on with the depot?
Yeah, you’d certainly measure the time clearing custom on a trip like that in weeks not days.

big aw ye dont forget when u get to the moon as they used 2 say there will be englishman with no money and a paddy with no permits lol as for the guy on about ralphs basically he did east russia mongolia azberjan/kazakstan/uzbekstan/and yes upto not over china border / keep the lot of it 4 me give me nice trip alicante tip day of on beach and hit her home
Even if you ignored all the border problems, I can’t imagine that road transport to China could ever be an economic option. 7½ thousand miles over Russia and Kazakhstan and when you get to the Chinese border, you are only two thirds of the way to Beijing.
Containers to China are fairly cheap, since most traffic comes the other way, and the biggest problem they face is the possibility of Somalian pirates.
You know, given the total lack of action by the French fuzz, I don’t think they’d be too bothered about running them down, I would imagine our Eastern Euro friends are getting a bit ticked off now with them and given their “no BS” attitude I don’t think many would think about stopping.
