As far as I’m aware safety boots protect your toes from objects that may drop on them. I’d imagine that any crash severe enough to result in losing your foot would have the same outcome regardless of whether you were wearing stilettos or steelies.
Just looking at it in a H&S point of view.
You wouldn’t ware a pair of trainers in a warehouse (Place of work)
So as a truck being a (place of work) is this the same■■?
I agree, I often see the bankers in cannery wharf with their rigger boots on! We should wear them in the cab!

There`s much denigration on these here boards towards our continental friends who happen to wear comfortable shoes for the purposes of driving and I was just wondering if they look at us lot clodding about in steel toecapped pit hoggers and having a well justified laugh at us.
Ive decided, as from tomorrow, to wear a pair of comfy shoes for work, (not flip flops though), and keep my heavy armour plated boots for when its really necessary. Im moving containers this week and am unconcerned about the possibility of one falling on my toes. I have decided that I`m a safer driver in proper shoes especially in the car going to and from.
I`ll see how long it takes for someone to have a pop.
don’t wear your hi viz, that way you will be invisible

I wondered how the foot prints get on the bed.
I give up
OK then, what about a pair of steel toe cap socks, everybodys happy
Flip Flopper here,
By the time fat bloke at the gatehouse has come to the window there has been a swift change of footwear to boots and no-one knows any better
Tango Boy, I think you are mistaken to believe that steel toe caps must be worn at a place of work.
See comment about cannery (Canary) Wharf.
Its just something that has become the custom as has Hi-Vizs. If a place doesnt specifically say they must be worn then I make a point of not wearing mine.
If a company makes certain stipulations about PPE then thats the rule based on the risks associated with that place and we have to adhere to those rules as a condition of entry to the site. Its wrong to assume we have to be PPE`d up 24/7.

Dunno, I think you may be perceived as a “worker” and we wouldnt want that would we
For the record, I wear the Dewalt Carbide boots, from Makro £40, my work issue boots where crud, the Dewalt flex and are so much more comfortable and a lot less sweaty
I have even been known to forget to take them off at home, no big deal you say? I have flat feet
ROG:
Anything or nothing is ok as long as full control is maintained whilst driving
So if you showed up at the test station for your driving exam and before you got in the cab you whipped your shoes saying ;its ok i prefer to drive like this m8;to the bloke taking you it would be ok
100% yes - its perfectly legal and deemed safe as long as full control is maintained
So when you’re involved in a serious accident in a truck and you are driving bare foot and you end up loosing a foot in the crash how do you stand in claming as really you should have work boots on as you’re in the work place■■?
Your right there m8,when it comes to putting a claim in that would throw the spanner in the works
