Flashing lights on overtaking

joker83:
We all flash when long artic overtakes and want to come back in the lane then we get "thank you"with indicators  is it always necessary? Some drivers even wait to be flashed even when it’s lots of room.what if on single carriageway you flash to a lorry which overtakes you and a car who want to join the traffic(some granny ) understand it as a ivite to join the same lane as artic.sometimes it’s just unnecessary?. What you think?

I do laugh when you flash your lights at your mate who’s passing and the car driver who was passing takes it your flashing him in and thanks you   .

I feel like replying to the previous post but all the words would be blanked out.
One day you will need help with something I hope im looking the other way.

You don’t have to like what I say, far too many lazy drivers who expect their arses wiped when overtaking. Have a nice night now :sunglasses:

just occasionaly,a lorry that i’ve just flashed in will flick his sidelights on and off twice  reminds me of the days when i drove a ‘proper’ Daf…in the '80’s :sunglasses:

I’m the same I always use my sidelights as a thank you there’s not many of us left now that do

Same here two flicks of the side lights to say thanks, thats what my old man taught me many many years ago.

I really despair at some of the comments by so called ‘professional drivers’ on here, were did it all go wrong.

I don’t flash 99% of wagons, I will flash someone who has their indicator on for ages and obviously is too scared to make the judgement, but for the rest of the trucking fraternity if you don’t know the length of your trailer then hard cheese, you will learn. Its hilarious when you get overtaken and whoever is driving said wagon takes a huff that I haven’t flashed them back in and pulls back over with NO indication. If I get flashed in on the rare occasion im going faster than another wagon I politely give one flash on the indicator and then pull in a few seconds after that with indication. I know how long my trailer is and will pull back over when I am ready

I’d like to think mate that you are just having a laugh, but sadly I think you are being serious  .
I know the subject is trivial, and that I and most on here, couldn’t really give a ■■■■ whether you flash me in, out,… or shake it all about, but sadly drivers like me meet drivers like you, that display that sort of attitude, every day.
I can only assume that you are fairly new, and I would hope that through time you, and the many drivers like you, may change when the actions of other drivers with a more professional, courteous (and grown up :unamused: ) attitude are displayed towards you.
I know that you don’t give a ■■■■ what I say,as that is all part of it, I also know things will never be the same as they were 20 or so yrs ago among drivers, but if we as drivers can’t show each other at least minimal consideration, who else will, and what chance is there of improving a crap over regulated job, where everybody else at best tolerates us, and at worst hates us…Yeh I know,…you don’t give a ■■■■ :unamused:

haf the time they cant see the flash cause of the curtains their hiding behind whilst chattin on the phone :unamused:

pretty sure that it’s not the law to indicate when you have finished an overtaking manoeuver…just return to the inside lane.

I agree that’s why I don’t come on this forum very much I don’t no why they call it UK Professional Drivers Forum I shake my head when I read some of the the topics and quotes I’m glad I don’t drive full time for a living these days

That’s hit the heart strings mate, yeah I will change my ways and start flashing drivers in when they are a few foot in front of my windscreen. By not flashing it keeps idiots away from me so I can see where im going and I have a chance to stop (usually at full weight) in the case of an emergency. I have been driving long enough to realise that the industry is full of idiots so I choose to distance myself from them and get on with my job and you can get on with yours!

As I said mate I don’t really give a twopenny ■■■■ whether you flash drivers in or not to be quite honest :unamused: , my post was more aimed at your (and other driver’s) “I’m alright so ■■■■ you” type of attitude that we as drivers unfortunately see every day,… but hey! if I’ve touched your heartstrings (yeh right :unamused: ) my life is finally fulfilled.
Not sure how not flashing overtakers in keeps idiots away from you though, don’t think you have thought that one through, as usually if it IS an idiot that is overtaking, said idiot will invariably cut in nearly taking your mirrors with them, so then you HAVE to take the emergency action you mention, full weight or otherwise. Where as if a “proper driver” overtakes he will wait for a flash (irrespective whether he knows where the back of his trailer is :unamused:) so he knows that YOU consider it safe from your end, and his, to pull back in…ie professionalism, courtesy, and consideration :bulb:
Thanks for the advice about getting on with my job  , I intend to do just that, in my usual manner, which is probably a bit different to the way that you do it  .

I turn my headlamps down to side lamps for a few seconds when I’ve been passed to show the overtaker where I am rather than to dazzle all.

For someone that doesn’t care if he gets flashed in you sure have a bee in your bonnet.

I will keep an eye out for that nice red scanny of yours and give you a flash back in so you can let your ■■■■ unboil from where it is now :sunglasses:

I will be in a 63 plate streamspace

Don’t take your eyes off the overtakers looking for the Dutch Scania, that was a few years ago now so I won’t be in it  .
Congratulations on the 63 streamspace, I’m assuming that I should be impressed, but sadly…nah! we’ll just leave it there  , promise to flash you in though, with me having the right attitude, and my ■■■■ at the right temperature, Toodle pip

Heheh, me too! But it’s got to be ‘on-off, on------off’
I don’t like all that indicator business - it confuses me…R L R L R

yeah i think its good manners to flash another thats lorry overtaking you on the motorway
it doesnt hurt
likewise after youve been flashed in one right and 2 left flicks of indicators is good way to say thank you
and if another lorry is taking a long time to overtake me i slow down a bit to let him in (as long as i am not being tailgated by another one )
yet 99 per cent times out of a hundred the lorry that i have slowed down for will not thank me with his indicators
to me that is just ignorance and i always shout you ignorant b r stead when it happens
even tho i know they cant hear me

No mate wasn’t trying to impress you whatsoever as I couldn’t give a flying ■■■■ about you or your opinions about what you think or don’t think, it was merely so you could keep an eye out for me

Flash me in all you want I know its the be all and end all of being a “Professional driver” in your opinion anyway lol

It’s been emotional but as you want to stop all correspondence with this lesser driver to you, then I will go and lick my wounds but im sure I shall get over it.

I always wait for a flash or buckets of room, because every drivers comfort zone is different. While some may be perfectly happy with having 44t in front of them with 3ft to stop in an emergency, others (myself included) prefer a bit more room. Very often I won’t get the chance to flash people in because they’ve already pulled in before I want them to.

  You just haven’t listened to anything I have said have you :unamused: , I also couldn’t give a flying whatever about you, or, as you put it, the “be all and end all” flashing in thing either, as I have tried (and evidently failed :unamused: ) to explain to you, so I will reiterate … My points were all aimed at your attitude displayed towards other truck drivers , as interpreted by your posts on this particular thread.
The “being impressed” thing was a badly received joke  hence the smiley ,and at no point did I cast aspersions on your driving abilities compared to mine.
So before one of us stoops to chucking personal insults at the other, can I suggest that we just agree to differ and move on.
Have a nice day!

heres the soloution ifyou dont want to have toflash your lights at another truckie… work over here for one of the more adventurous irish outfits, have your cruise set for 99kmh,and voila!!!..no need to flash,as nobody in uk will ever overtake you apart from another irish jockey who will most likely be slabbering to you on the cb anyway.problem solved■■?..works fine for me,
