Flashing lights on overtaking

Can someone tell me, is it not the done thing to flash someone in who passed you on a dual carriageway when you were doing 50mph?

The thing that really boils my ■■■■ is the sarcastic indicator flash usually from a rigid driver that’s just wiped the flies off my grille with his tail lift. I have been tempted to repay the compliment on the next downhill but I’m almost all grown up now.

i flash in when the unit passing is clear and safe!

when passing i indicate. check mirrors again. check me rear view camera. then he safe. move over.
whether you flash or not.

and me tail lift has enough crap on it. don’t want another truckers dead flies. got loads on the front of me truck!

The flashing of lights goes back to the pre motorway days, when it was A & B roads only for lorries travelling around the UK. As a previous poster says, the mirrors were small, also a driver would wave you you past and flash you back in. Before lorries had winkers you used the sidelights to acknowledge the other driver.

Seemed to work for us in the past, regards

well said robroy, i agree with your comments 100%.

i,m glad i,m on the downhill side of doing this job and not just starting. osme of the guys on here put the un in proffessional driver.

I tend to do the same, but usually wait for the trailer to pass also.

Do some people sign into another forum to ask if they should start breathing for themselves after waking up in a morning?

I don’t flash 99% of wagons, I will flash someone who has their indicator on for ages and obviously is too scared to make the judgement, but for the rest of the trucking fraternity if you don’t know the length of your trailer then hard cheese, you will learn. Its hilarious when you get overtaken and whoever is driving said wagon takes a huff that I haven’t flashed them back in and pulls back over with NO indication. If I get flashed in on the rare occasion im going faster than another wagon I politely give one flash on the indicator and then pull in a few seconds after that with indication. I know how long my trailer is and will pull back over when I am ready

Well done you!

“Hey ho sonny Jim, congratulations on a smooth overtake and for enjoying the freedom of the road just like me, now take your place ahead!” FLASH

“Lovely job me old mate, I take my place ahead of you and acknowledge the mutual respect!” Indicator wiggle

 That’s good. I will be reciting this on my next overtake.

We all flash when long artic overtakes and want to come back in the lane then we get "thank you"with indicators  is it always necessary? Some drivers even wait to be flashed even when it’s lots of room.what if on single carriageway you flash to a lorry which overtakes you and a car who want to join the traffic(some granny ) understand it as a ivite to join the same lane as artic.sometimes it’s just unnecessary?. What you think?

I do laugh when you flash your lights at your mate who’s passing and the car driver who was passing takes it your flashing him in and thanks you   .

You don’t have to like what I say, far too many lazy drivers who expect their arses wiped when overtaking. Have a nice night now :sunglasses:

Forget which account you were logged in on again Dozy?? :unamused:
