Fireworks - lack of sleep - cancelling work

Harry Monk:
This post really does showcase everything wrong not just in transport but in the economy in general, the useless bottom-feeding parasites and hangers-on who we all have to pay for through our taxes.

It’s pathetic Harry , next thing up will be every father with a kid under five being given time of work cos the nipper was screaming /teething/whatever all night .FFS how did we manage ?
You’re welcome to it mate ,try pulling a stunt like that over here and you’d be laughed out of the country ,rightly so .

i hope they have cancelled all over night trains for me so that i can get a good nights sleep.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Rog was trying to make the point that driving tired can be unsafe…don’t you all nob-heads taking the ■■■■ see that??

…maybe the guy killed on the A14 today didn’t either. :unamused: remember - drive tired and next time it could be you!!!

You see the thing is nobody listens to you either and they put you in the same group that rog is in.

All I can say is it’s a good job we didn’t have to depend on the likes of ROG when the Luftwaffe were raining bombs onto British cities night after night. I doubt anyone ever took the following day off work because they were “too tired” :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

My mate is a retained firefighter, he was called out last night 5 times and he is at work this morning sharpening saw blades. I will let you know if he cuts his fingers off today. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well said.

Some men are an embrassment to themselfs, as far as im concerned proper men work hard, their grafters, they go to work regards of anything, they provide for their families by what means whatever possible, if it requires them to work day and night thats what they’ll do.

What a load of ■■■■■■■■. Real men do not accept working for crap money and long hours. They stand up for themselves and do something about it instead of moaning on here…and they have the intelligence to know when they’re not up to scratch for whatever reason.

If you work day and night as a truck driver you need certifying mate…that is until VOSA or a wooden box catches up with you.

What a lot of willy waving over a simple post about tiredness. I am against pro benefit claimants as much as anyone…which is why I don’t claim anything and never have done. But having a day off because you are knackered has nothing to do with benefit cheats… :unamused:

I can’t even remember a time where I drove when I wasn’t tired!!

How are you doing with your assessment drives, have you had two years experience on the road yet? or have you been too tired. You always have a lot to say but you don’t have any answers. You work for yourself but you don’t have a full time job. I am not sure who is waving whose willie here friend.

To be honest the one I see moaning on here most is you, about other peoples wages and driving whilst tired.

Spot on ^^^, thats what makes real men, standing up to their repsonsibilities and providing, that doesn’t mean to say as in Truckulent’s answer that the alternative is to work for peanuts for ever, part of a mans responsibilty, duty even, is to provide as well as he can which means getting the best terms and conditions he can as and when he can make it happen.

I worked up to 100 hour bloody weeks when my children were small and bills were high, and i know other blokes who have done the same, not all hours spent on the road obviously.

Its seldom been the case that a working mans wage could raise a family well and buy a house etc, these days mothers take an increasing role in providing (and that has its downsides though its the kiss of death to dare mention such a thing), but in times gone by and not that long ago, we’d have to worked several jobs by a bit of ducking and diving to do the business.

We didn’t have time to be tired, too busy working to notice.

Too little pride around these days.

Muckaway mentions he lives near RAF Brize Norton and posted about Hercules aircraft idling at night, not sure how he would know that it was a Hercules when he lives 5 miles away and it is dark.
There are many different aircraft that use the base, they come from around the world.
The idling engines are being tested for faults, or the air crew noted abnormal detections in the ■■■■ pit, or they may be replacing parts or a whole engine, so they tie the aircraft down with chains and pull back the throttle and give it some welly.
There are no RAC or AA men to call when in flight or no garages so the testing must take place when Muckaway is on his 9 0r 11 hours off, he should have known about the noise before he moved near Carterton.
He is correct about the VC10, his tax money pays the fine each time it lands and takes off in the USA and Canada, i think it about ten grand fine for noise pollution, the seating configuration is sitting back wards, have you seen flight attendants on commercial flights, they sit facing you to reduce injuries and to to be conscious and alive to drag you out when it crashes.

ROG:
What was started as a sensible logical safety thread has obviously deteriorated into something else - shame because I know of quite a few drivers who are affected by this issue

rog it was a bit of banter dont take any offence driving whilst tired is a serious safety issue hope the message gets across along with the banter on here

There we can all stay at home tomorrow :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Even if my boss bought this which he never would i would never live it down wae the rest of the drivers, just say you’ve got diarrhoea rog.

Also we didn’t have puppets as planners, you were given a job and when you were empty, they gave you another job. Drivers were allowed to think for themselves, including deciding on our bedtime.

Christ try working nights - Sometimes I reckon bonfire night is quieter!

If I get more than 5 hours sleep it’s a bloody good result!

Wheel Nut:

you wouldn´t get far with Rog doing the thinking then :unamused:

BBC 2 at 9 pm yesterday covered sleep or rather lack of it when driving

One LGV driver who killed another by nodding off at the wheel KNEW he had such issues and blamed the doctors after he went to them 3 times and they did nothing - hang on … If he KNEW he had tiredness issues then why did he CHOOSE to drive ?

If for whatever reason be it fireworks or anything else causes a driver to be too tired to drive then for safety they must not drive - simple

Make up whatever excuses against that statement you like but the bottom line still remains the same … too tired = no driving

The research in that programme and others showed quite clearly that being a little tired etc was still potentially dangerous

Didn’t get too much sleep on saturday night at Jcn26 truckstop on the M25 . . . sounded like WW2 outside

Was still up at 4am to go and drop my empty fridge and hook up to another . . just a bit of a bugga another of our drivers had picked it up 4 hours earlier and taken it where it shouldnt have gone, leaving me with his load which needed to be 225miles away 15 minutes earlier :frowning:

D’Oh!!!

ROG:

I don’t think anyone doubts that. I think the concencous is that we havn’t been left too tired to drive after firework night.
Also the above statement does not make sense (literally). If you are too tired to drive then you can’t, ‘must not’ doesn’t come into the equasion. If you where too weak to bench press 150 Kilo it would be superfluous me telling you that you ‘must not lift it’ - simple.
Perhaps you wanted a wider range of discussion regarding sleep? Personally i have no problems sleeping when tired,no noises disturb me and i only awake when i’m not tired. Its an impossibility for me to wake up from a sleep feeling tired. If i did then i’d go see a doctor. Maybe i’m lucky.

I gather from the answers that either nobody has an issue or has but drives tired ?

I imagine most people on this board have lost sleep for one reason or another and still managed to get through the following day without skiving off work or having an accident.

Perhaps its just me that considers the risk factor …
