Fireworks - lack of sleep - cancelling work

beefy4605:

There we can all stay at home tomorrow :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

SSSSSHHHHHH. I’m trying to sleep

3 weekends ago i went to bed @ 11pm on the sat night as i was getting up for work @ 5am sun morning.
@ 1am my youngest son (age 3) dislocated his elbow (on going medical problem) in his sleep.
i got dressed and took him to A&E.
i was back in bed @ 3am up @ 5am for work.
i made my 10am booking at st albans and then put my head down on the bed.
i agree with the ‘you shouldnt drive tired comments’ as its dangerous.
what i disagree with is some of the comments that defend the cancelling of work due to fireworks.
as i have previously said in this thread that there is a very good chance that there is a bed behind your seats so if your tired then you should use it to grab a nap.
what everybody has failed to mention is the fact that because he cancelled his work then some other poor sod has had a phone call asking him to cover the job.
the chances are, the person that covered the job was probably hearing the same fireworks.
do i need to say any more
rant over for now

This is true and if people read the posts in this thread most will probably conclude that you’re out of touch with reality whilst you of course will conclude that the rest of us are out of touch with reality.

If you can’t understand that perhaps you should sleep on it.

I understand one thing - there is being safe or not being safe - being too tired to drive is not being safe to get behind the wheel

Anyone with a different view needs to seriously examine their thinking

Fixed that for you

Why cherry pick the quote when the other bit was relevant?

Would you drive when too tired to do so whatever the reason for lack of sleep?

Your question has been answered multiple times ROG :unamused:

We’ve all agreed that to drive tired is not good, simple as that :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

That is the answer !!! Granted, the answer you wanted was that it’s OK to take a day off sick for something entirely predictable and the general consensus amongst those of us with a bit of moral fibre, a brain and a work ethic was that it wasn’t. Sorry that’s not the answer you wanted.

I for example will be taking my daughter to a midnight cinema screening tonight. Knowing this in advance I have, in good conscience booked the day off work. Why ■■ simple really, I am aware of it and thusly I have taken the responsible choice and planned for it in good time so as not to inconvenience others.
On a normal night were I to be kept awake by something unforseen, I would be responsible and call in sick.
The difference is between something being avoidable and unforseen or not. making the choice to phone in sick at short notice a responsible one or one of a bone idol, unprofessional idiot.

So as the question has been more than answered FFS stop dragging it back up at every tenuous excuse spouting pompously and spuriously about safety in an effort to bolster your failed argument and flawed conclusions. :smiling_imp:

For what its worth, I didnt think my thread was silly, and I got some really well reasoned grown up responses.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.

As posted on my thread…

Edit: Felt the need to clarify as ROG has quoted this on another thread. I think I may have over-represented the firework issue. Although they delayed me trying to sleep, they didnt stop me from sleeping nor did they wake me. They just contributed to not much sleep. I dont know why my headache developed. Maybe lack of fresh air in cab as im used to sleeping with windows open at home. Either way, the headache awoke me and prevented me from getting back to sleep. It was the worsening of the headache and other symptoms that I felt was affecting my driving rather than simply tiredness. This reason for pulling over was to dissipate the headache and by resting in order to become fit to continue travelling safely.

Whilst I sympathise with ROG and his thread, having been kept up all night with young children (easily anticipated, not much one can do about it) his thread and this thread are not about the same issue fundamentaly.

Cheers.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The next instalment will be; Neighbours’ Christmas Lights; Does the constant flashing, twinkling and cars pulling up to take a look keep you awake?

On ferry crossings drivers do not get enough quality sleep, the boss expects a 500 mile trip when you get off, but the law allows this hour of on and off and finding parking after you leave the ship, the day before you may have been hand balling a load or feeling ill and not sleeping well.
