Could have sworn somebody said something along the lines of ‘‘knights of the road’’, well being an old ■■■■ meself i can’t remember in my time on the road that drivers have ever been treated any differently to the ‘scum of the earth’ we all recognise as being our normal place in the pecking order.
Must be my rheumy old eyes playing up again.
Is there anyone alive remember being treated as said.
There’s only one trouble with slowing up for the chap thats going 0.0005mph faster than you, and its as soon as you lift off by 0.0001 mph to let him by, the world and their wife will then pull out to overtake you and on it goes.
Don’t know why we are arguing about it anyway, if the blasted dot/mot/whoever they are this week had asked any old time driver what would happen if they introduced speed limiters they would have been informed exactly…hey ho
BTW Dambuster, although you went for the bait, I agree with your sentiments, it is down to the overtaker to make sure he can complete his manouvere in safety & with regard to other road users, I’m actually one of the ones who will back off & let the fool in, I even give them a flash to let them know it’s safe.
I do have a problem with the roundabout situation but as an experiencied driver I anticipate what will happen & act accordingly, I’m NEVER in that much of a rush that I feel the need to put anybodies safety at risk & I’ve got a nice lorry & I don’t want to bend it
It’s a fact of life that you will get annoyed out on the road, getting all stressed just raises blood pressure & damages your health, where’s the value in that
I can assure you i was talking purely theoretically. But hey, each to his own. Can we put this very annoying post to bed now? Its almost as bad as Kindles ignore this post. You know yr not really interested but you just can’t help but look at it!

ROG:
In the end, this will all come down to a persons BELIEFS on driving and whether they are prepared to look at their beliefs with an open mind and amend them.
If they believe that what they are doing is right, no matter what the other issues are, such as safety, then they will not budge from that belief.
It is the biggest problem on our roads today. People are taught to pass a test and then there is no more. They are expected to learn it all by ‘experience’ which usually means ‘by being influenced by the actions of others’ whether those others are right or wrong.
What is missing is the post test ‘THINKING and RISK MANAGEMENT’ part of driver training.
For anyone who wishes to look into the thinking and the belief aspects of driving, may I suggest a book called ‘Mind Driving’ by Stephen Haley BUT if you are ADAMANT that your beliefs are right - don’t bother because the author says in the front of the book that if you are that way inclined then don’t bother to read any further - well, words to that effect
Will the driver CPC address this issue? I hope so
I found roadcrafta good book as well, makes you understand that 1) you aren’t the best driver and can get better and 2)everyone else thinks they are, it gives you a better understanding of other road users and your self.
I am always stunned by some comments on this forum from “professional drivers” when I defend truck drivers on some car forums I use I would never dream of pointing them here to better understand our problems

Then maybe a lot of loads could go by rail to keep the car drivers happy, but then again that would be to expensive just like it would be for me to use public transport.
How would the goods get from the factory to the railhead? How would the goods get from the railhead to the customers?
And if you take into account all the costs of owning a car, public transport works out cheaper for single person journeys…

i can relate to that!!!
If I had read that I wouldn’t have posted my last post

I must confess, I’ve been on a bit of a wind up
I also do not advocate swerving in front of people leaving them no braking distance, that is downright dangerous. I did think that more of you would’ve had a rant on the subject, but it seems not
I bet a lot - scrub that - just about everyone on this site, did not agree with you but decided not to duplicate what had already been said.
What is really heartwarming to see is the speed and passion that you were blasted by others for taking such risks with that attitude - it was a very good indication that driving views among real professionals are now better than ever
Apologies if this sounds condesending but it was absolutely not meant to - just my admoration for a lot of great driving attitudes
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah I love a reaction.
Some of you go on about respect, why should people respect you, Oh i forgot because if we didnt have trucks we wouldnt get our milk, eggs payslips and so on like one of you wrote. There are thousands of jobs that people deserve respect for like nurses and doctors, but you dont see any forums with them complaining how hard done by they are. There are also a lot of “car drivers” as you point out that cause you to set out two hours earlier, that get your haulage firm the contracts that keeps you in a job.
I think there are people here that know exactly where i was coming from, but with the majority i guess the truth hurts.
The origional post was not aimed at everyone like i said.
Truth is though most of you who got your backsides out over my thread are the sort of people with anger issues not me, I am very calm and loving reading your rants so keep it up
Age old bone of contention between car drivers and lorry drivers, may never be resolved. Not much point in discussing it other than to let off some steam. As long as we all get to our destinations without crashing then thats the main thing. Sometimes we all need to take a chill pill and relax on these overcrowded roads.
