Hullo,
Yes I thought that they were brilliant too. But no I don’t buy Transport News, as I spend half my time abroad and when I do get back here I can’t afford it, :frowning: Us poor old hard done by Pensioners you understand
What about these two for smart trucks then.

Cheers, Archie.

Sign of the times CG, in my day those two firms were called British Rayophane and Metal Box respectively,British Rayophane was Belgium owned IIRC! Cheers Bewick.

cg you should of went to specsavers tdg spoilt at least three of the best liveried company,s --russell of bathgate mcpherson of aberlour thomas smith jnr of edinburgh to name a few jeh.

Jack Richard’s livery is, according to what I was once told, taken from a second-hand motor he bought many years ago which was previously owned by Lucozade and he liked the colour scheme so kept it. Not one of my favourite liveries I hasten to add.
Cheers Haddy.

Hello everyone,
Yes Bewick, a sign of the times.
Jeh, whats wrong with TDG’s livery? Its bright, colourful and it used British Lorries (ERF/MAN).
Yes ok, there is better liveries, but in a couple of years time, there will be no TDG (ND buyout).

You are a very sad individual CG promoting TDG as a “class” livery! IMO That ■■■■■■ green with the matchstick juggler perfectly summed up what had gone wrong with the transport industry! When James Duncan kicked off the Transport Development Group in the '50’s the intention was (and did) that all the firms TDG aquired kept their own identities (liveries) and therefore their own efficiencies and expertise and were not submerged into a faceless conglomerate that it eventually became. For many years this business model flourished successfully ( W & J Riding run by the great Tom Riding is a shining example!) I met Sir James a few times over the years latterly when he was Chairman of Boalloy and he explained that the TDG Head office only provided background support (mainly financial) and encouragement to their wholly owned subsiuaries, and as long as they produced “the bottom line” for the TDG shareholders they were allowed a free hand! It is quite possible that this explanation will fall “like seed on stony ground” Cheers Bewick.

I agree with you Bewick, when I look back at the haulage firms that were aquired by the TDG, all the stylish liveries they had swapped for the juggler image that looks nowt nor something. Regards Larry.

Sorry to do this and yes i did work for them but i think Great Bear Dist is plain and simple

cg
sorry you dont need specsavers as youv,e all ready got rose tinted glasses on

Hello everyone,
Well, it seems I’m on my own with TDG. But I’m sure you will agree with me that BRS was a great livery.

(P.S Theres a excelent artical about BRS in CM which shows a Leylan 8 wheeler at Distington Engineering Workington and Tyson Burridge Scammel Pickford tamker which they have restored).

It just seems that you go from bad to worse CG! You are either totally oblivious to what constitutes a good looking livery or you are a masochist that enjoys winding some of us up!!! “Carryfast” would mek a good marra for you eh! You’ll be suggesting next that Factory finished white is probably the finest livery of all time!!! and I’m serious when I suggest this possibility!!! Give me strength eh!!! Bewick.

The ‘pink’ primer should be brought back then everyone would be shamed into painting the lorries in a proper colour .White is a good colour if part of a well though out sceme, that TDG one is just some lad in the office playing with a PC program. they used to say if you cant afford to paint the lorry then summat’s up somewhere.

This was the best livery Larry and Dennis, battleship grey with a lick of silver paint and a chrome bumper. The only other colour would be the red and white tremcard in t’windscreen and red flammable liquid diamond.

Bakers always have a tidy fleet and still going , i bet no one has any pictures of their older stuff they ran Mandators and a Mammoth Minor at 1 point , here`s a Foden they still run not sure how many lights you need on the front, but the livery was always good and traditional

Hello
Well Bewick, this will please you. I also like Bewick Transport’s livery too.

I maybe a little biast because this is the truck i drove for them but i always thought Tulips livery was very good,

Yes I have to agree with you F7Syd, Tulips livery was distinct you could see them as soon as they came into vision, & you new it was Tulips, pity they are not still going today,I got on great with Tommy,we ran up to Frazerbrough one night with spratts, he was driving the AEC 8Wheeler S reg I think [ERGO CAB], one of the last ones made I would think. ,is he still about, havent seen him since a meeting at Matfen to do with Moot Law Quarry wagons running through the village.the 90s. Regards Larry

As far as i know he his, ive only seen him a couple of times since i left in 2002 to go to handsys, Iloved the job and got on great with Tommy (TOT) he always had time for enthousiastic drivers which i was at the time,Like i say i loved the job but the money was poor and with a young family draining my resorces i had to chase the £££s.
