hiya,
Always liked the mix of red and green in lorry livery and the Scots boys had some cracking liveries in those colours.
thanks harry long retired.
This is how the new ones come now. They make better money when it comes to selling them in white and less money to paint when new. Its a shame i like the old traditional colours.
Has anybody got any pictures of Fredk.Ray Ltd., of Leighton Buzzard trucks? I thought they looked the biz with gold lettering and red and green livery.Properly signwritten as well!!
Derbyshire Foden:
I think these scot wagons look well. This one was parked in the cattle market truck park in Market Drayton a few weeks ago.
hiya,
You’d have no problem finding this one on the car park when making your way from the digs after a heavy night on the pop.
thanks harry long retired.
truckers boy:
one of the nicest general haulage liveries around imo
Remember sitting in one of the old trucks in a shed aound the back of their yard in the seventies with John Mcardle who I went to school with, I think he was a nephew of the Ritchies.

I was thinking about a thread like this for some time, here is one of my favorites.
Couldn’t agree more I love there motors. Would give my right arm to drive for them. Stunning bits of kit.
I don’t know whether it was one of the Payne family but the bloke in the office was a smashing guy. When I arrived, he gave me a bay which is quite difficult to get onto as its only a small yard, then while I made a cup of tea, he went and tipped the pallets.
Heres another nice HE Payne motor. Their even more impressive when you consider that a lot of them are quite old. I think this DAF is on an 05 plate and still looks great. Seen tipping at Kent Frozen Foods nr Maidstone.

wasn’t it Plants of Crewe (ran ERF’s ) that had the ‘woodgrain’ livery that looked different & smart
like this?
Hiya steve …yes it was Plants who had the woodgrain cabs …many cattle trucks was also woodgrain…
The main man of the art in Cheshire was a really nice man Harry Huff a small chap he worked at Jennings
in Sandbach he would spend hours doing his grain work …god knows how much it cost…I asked if he would
do me a motorcycle helmet…i thought it would wind coppers up but he never did one for me.

Gordon Plant’s haulage fleet was Red with gold lettering/lining and it was was one of the finest operations in the UK,pity union problems brought it down!!but that was the times that were,we’'ll never see the likes of a Plant’s operation again(worse luck!) but look what we are left with as “current examples” the likes of the “fast eddie” operation!! I would hazzard a guess that one of Gordons 4 wheeler ERF’s earned more than one of Stobarrts 44tonners running to the south coast now from Manchester! Thats how good haulage was 40 years ago!!!No doubt one of the “spotters” could give us an indication of current rates to the south coast? I doubt it!! Cheers Bewick.
Dennis- dennis - dennis. We are talking about favourite liveries on this thread not Stobarts, for goodness sake give it up man(please) or we will have them on this thread as well
Ye Paynes yard is just passed black cat roundabout. It’s 10mims from our yard. So get to see them every day. Love the old school look they have. But still seem to be current at same time. Lovely.
Bewick:
Classic absolutely bloody Classic!!! Where was this shot on the island Chris?Anon.
One of several AEC MK3s I drove for A E Evans Dennis, nice and simple livery, colour co-ordinated you’ll notice as well.
I forgot to mention that it’s a Peter Davies photo and one of my favourites.

Hiya Bewick…when Gordon started up again as Crewe Cold stores thats when the wood grain appeared…some trucks had Philip Plant on them (blue and white) but i belive he did’nt take after Gordon in the transport knowlage department.
IE:: harder than it looks.
mentioning the union problems, many of Gordons ex drivers was set on at S Coopers just as they
was expanding, you could’nt have had a better set of lads to work with, maybe they’d seen the light.
