GS OVERLAND:
Here is an old one, the firm is still running. This was my first truck on my first driving job.
and this was my second truck.
Its all very boring now, white trucks everywhere, no character…
Then a few years later I was running with this well known livery.

I’ve got to take issue with you here “GS” as IMO there’s nothing class about these two CT motors as apart from being [zb] up,the sheets look crap and as for that trailer behind the Marathon!!! it looks like it was built by a Blacksmith!,12 wheels on the trailer----I bet it laid some rubber down on every roundabout it went round! Sorry but thats my opinion right or wrong.Cheers Bewick.
Keep the photos coming Gavin , some people like to see pictures of real working lorries not just the ones that were lined up for a photo shoot .
Fair do’s but those two motors look like they’ve never been near a wash for a month!! Bewick.

Has anybody got any picture of the two tone green livery of Jack Watts of Carlisle? I don’t think they still exist but they used to be continental and english, a large fleet but I don’t know how many years ago now I last saw one of their trucks. I drove for them regular but lost touch as to the business. Can anybody forward any information or pictures. I am from the old school drivers, my driving life began in the London Docks (retired now), my first year in the Docks was 1971. Thanks lads, anything you can come up with!!
Restored, covered in snow Pete and all the more realistic for all that. Bet it brings back shivering memories Hopefully somebodies got one in their full glory…jim

I remember seeing Jos Millican,Sandysike, motors running rough timber to Ellesmere Port. It’s a wonder there’s any trees left in the Borders.
Bit of useless info for you Chris,Kielder Forest on the Scottish/English border is probably bigger than IOM and once the first timber was ready for felling in the late 50s it was then just a case of felling and planting on a continuing basis, the trees grew as fast as they could be cut!!!During the drought of '76 Kielder dam/resevoir never dropped an inch all summer, they reckon it could have supplied half the country with water if it could have been drained to the south!Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Another bit of useless information the ocean going tankers/bulkers going back to the Gulf from Teesside fill up with Kielder Water to get them back to the oil fields and then it is pumped out into irrigation channels to be used for agriculture.
thanks harry long retired.

Complete crap Dennis these are brilliant photos, taken in the days when fleets and lorries had a bit of charisma unlike today’s plain ones.

I’m looking at these two outfits through the eyes of a “haulier” not those of someone wearing the proverbial “rose tints”!! Dennis.
boris:
After a recent visit to Scotland i couldn’t fail to notice how much more colourful a lot of Scottish hauliers vehicles were in comparism to Englands & a shame that many companies now just use plain ‘white’ with maybe a door sticker for identification So how about a thread about your favourite company liveries & maybe some pics of them
