Can’t believe there’s so much support for what has to be a completely ignorant question.
People get lambasted for asking a genuine question but maybe in a silly way on this site.
You ask a stupid question in a serious way and nobody says nothing.
I would go a far to say that statistically you would be safer in Northern Ireland than most places in Mainland. Why would you want to believe the likes of me, just continue thinking that it’s 1982 and there out to get you.
I can see where you’re coming from but the bloke has the world to choose from, why go anywhere that might be moody & not just moody but Colombian neck tie moody.
If you cycle, try the Camino in Spain, cheap or free youth hostels along the way. You can do it even if you aren’t religious. Wales is lovely through the valley’s, I like Ross on Wye & Monmouth.
Was going to go to Amsterdam for a week but I’m skint.
Everybody I meet doesn’t matter where it is I tell them about Northern Ireland, I try to sell it to them if they talk about going away for a short break.
People that has never been I don’t know what image they have in there mind. Don’t think this is helped with the news flashes of small pockets of trouble at interface areas.
People need to forget about Sky News reels and BBC1 showing pictures of petrol bombs being thrown.
I have lived here for near 15 years and never seen I petrol bomb being thrown.
Belfast offers a great short break experience but there a lot more to Northern Ireland than just Belfast.
As posted, the Camino de Santiago is several hundred miles of walking but no need to do the whole lot.
It starts in the French Pyrenes with places to stay on the route.

I would hire a car and go a drive up the glens of Antrim and the north coast.
Visit the Giants Causeway and the carrick-a-Rede rope bridge
Travel to Derry and do a tour up there.

Visit the grand opera house or some of the cathedrals.
Go to toddsleap and do a days off roading or various other activities.

Northern Ireland does have very nice countryside
Others have mentioned the North coast of Ireland ( thats Derry to Ballycastle ) Some great scenery , good pubs and food , and plenty to keep you out of or in mischief. I do a little photography in my spare time and I live in that area so if you want a look at the scenery have a look at my facebook page -

Very nice photos you should go up to the top of the baranailt road
I find it funny that some folks have an opinion of Northern Ireland without ever having been there - I was there when I was in the army, during the troubles but we still seemed to be able to get out for a pint- you just used a bit of common sense the same as I would do in downtown Manchester, Turin, Amsterdam, Milan or Brixton (other place are available) - since leaving the army I have been over many times - and only once had any issue and that was sorted out quickly, not by me, but by the locals who got a couple hotheaded youngsters out of the way and then were most apologetic.
Don’t believe the hype Northern Ireland is no more scary or dangerous to a tourist ( and probably better than most) than any other area in Europe

Don’t mean to sound stupid here but is it ok for English to take holidays in Northern Ireland? I don’t know much about the troubles and not trying to start an argument
‘Is it ok for the English to take holidays in Northern Ireland,’
Thousands do each year and and seem to get home in 1 piece. Are you really that stupid, why don’t you you come find out for yourself.
Or do you only feel safe in England surrounded by foreigners.
Clown
& you’ve just reinforced why some blokes including me wouldn’t go there.
Huh? Why has it re inforced why you won’t go there? I’m not criticising. You won’t find the personal danger here you seem concerned with without A/ living here years and years and then in addition B/ really go looking for it. You’d find yourself in bother more quickly in England. Cut NI some slack. 99 percent of people have had an absolute gutfull of all the past. They want to move on. It’s a welcoming place. Only the minority make the news. Yes, some areas hold views on the Brits if you really want to dig but that doesn’t necessarily translate into how they treat you. I’ve a mate from a very hard republican background, he has his views on the past and the English but he likes me. He ribs me a bit and I rib him back.
