I find it funny that some folks have an opinion of Northern Ireland without ever having been there - I was there when I was in the army, during the troubles but we still seemed to be able to get out for a pint- you just used a bit of common sense the same as I would do in downtown Manchester, Turin, Amsterdam, Milan or Brixton (other place are available) - since leaving the army I have been over many times - and only once had any issue and that was sorted out quickly, not by me, but by the locals who got a couple hotheaded youngsters out of the way and then were most apologetic.

Don’t believe the hype Northern Ireland is no more scary or dangerous to a tourist ( and probably better than most) than any other area in Europe

your right I see alot of tourists when I’m in derry

It’s being called Londonderry for the past 400 years.

Actually it’s doire or for people like you it’s Dhoire

Im from a family of Unionists, so people like me will always refer to it as Londonderry.

That’s fine but I’m from a family of mostly republicans and am from there

You can call what you what you choose to, I call it Derry, and I am person living over here.

Why do you feel the need to say your from a unionist family?

That’s the problem with things as the are today, everybody wants to say the are something or are part of something. Taking pride in stuff you never done and had no part of. And in turn disliking people you don’t know.

That’s called Nationalism. And it’s not nice.

I cycled right round Ireland in 86,spent 3 weeks over there.I got off the ferry at Larne cycled to the hostel at Bally Galley then on to Bally Castle.I walked up the Pins of Whats their name and Mount Brandon at the Ring of Kerry.I enjoyed meeting the people over there. We cant change the past ,but we can learn from it and not repeat the mistakes of our forebears.

Another non international suggestion. There’s Bridport in Dorset? Pretty busy little place. Local music scene, bustling Sat market. Jurassic coast nearby. Been to this nearby pub by the sea for grub sea was quite nice theanchorinnseatown.co.uk/

Very true wired4smoke we had went a bit off topic

I just a bit, there’s some retric being spouted.

Budapest , I’ve just been there, loved it and flight and hotel was cheap. Not crowded for a City and plenty to do and hills and the Danube to walk along or get on a train and head into the countryside.

Speaking of Budapest I’m going there next week. Just wanted to gloat really. . Loading M.keynes Red Bull Monday, tip whenever I get there, park up 'till Sunday after the race, reload and back. Beats some windswept UK coast I imagine.

A few years ago, you could do day trips to Europe with lunch included and a tour guide.I did a day trip to Budapest.Nice looking ladies.Well dressed and look like supermodels. It was only £99.

Could do with a break myself.

Love Ireland. Used to go on my own at least once a year from 1994 to about 2000.
Took the car on the P&O freight boat from Fleetwood To Larne & stay in a hostel in Armagh the first night which in those days had armed soldiers on the gate! Then drive all round Ireland staying at hostels or B&B’s. I haven’t been since 2000 & would love to go again. The west coast is especially nice and the Ring of Kerry a stunning drive.

Alternatively I’d like to see the relatively new Millau viaduct in France.

Only trouble is this time of year (school hols) ferries (channel or Irish sea) tend to be on the expensive side. Irish Sea ex Liverpool about £250+ i think.

Will be going to Budapest youtube.com/watch?v=VHrLPs3_1Fs again end of September for my annual visit to my dentist there. Having implants at halk uk cost. Agree with Toby, Hungarian people generally appear well turned out & are polite.

I then go 5 - 6 hours by train to stay with an English friend in a tiny village in Slovenia.

if u ever get to milau bridge m8 its beautifule to cross but go over then go back thru milau down mountain to milau and then up other side beautifule little town and stunning views

With the worlds most expensive McDonalds just off the roundabout at the bottom of the hill too!

ye right m8 going back uk next month possibly running spain so maybe go that way for change suppose there weight limit now if not take the doris down she never been happy times
