I moved Jonny Herbert (F1 driver) down to Monte Carlo, have met Cherie Lungie (Kenco advert several years ago). I also moved someone into the house next door to Cliff Richard in Little Venice, London. We were waiting for the keys to go through and he invited us to have a coffee in his garden. What a genuinely nice bloke!!As a kid I used to play with Terry Scotts children and was often round their house
OO err
The Highway Man:
I used to be the supervisor on the site security section at the Ford World Rally Team. Used to speak to Malcolm Wilson on a daily basis, also spoke regulary to Carlos Sainz, the late great Colin McCrae and Petter Solberg. Good lads to talk to. Colin nearly landed his helicopter on my car coming into land on the site!
Being a motorsport competitor and official over the last 24 years, has enabled me to meet some of the greats of rallying.
To name a few:
Malcolm Wilson when he was a GM pilot in the Astra.
Colin and Jimmy McRae when Colin was rising through the ranks in his Nova. Jimmy thinking he could stand on one of the bends at Olivers Mount, in a dangerous position and was told if he didn’t move, the stage would be stopped, and all blame would lie at his door. Just because your famous doesn’t give you carte blanche to stand where you want.
Loiuse Aitken Walker. (Yes indeedy. )
The late Roger Clark and his ■■■■■■■ co-driver fatboy Tony Mason. (More on that later.)
And now onto the real greats of the sport:
Ari Vatanen (All hail God number 1, and got to be the nicest bloke in rallying. Had time for everyone.)
Juha Kankunnen (All hail God Number 2.)
Markku Alen.
Hannu Mikkola (Quattro pilot of the highest order, but a right grumpy old sod.)
And more recently I was fortunate enough to be at Mercedes World at the end of last year, and shook Lewis Hamiltons hand, and wished him luck for 2010.
The Roger Clark/Tony Mason was a good one though…
We were at Chatsworth House when Ford were just publicising the ■■■■■■ Cosworth, and there was to be a film made of it going through the stage on the Saturday, the day before the RAC started. Driving it was RC, and his co-driver was TM, who had obviously been picked as ex Ford crew and up until then the only English crew to win the RAC. We heard the car set off, and then major panic set in over the radios, and we were told to stop that car at all costs. The reason was given that there were still people setting up at the end, and everything wasn’t ready.
So over the horizon came this car at full chat, and we bravely stood on the stage, and flagged it down.
When it stopped, RC asked us why we had stopped him, and we explained and he was an absolute gent about it, however TM wasn’t so happy and started getting stroppy with us, so one of the marshalls kindly offered to rearrange his face if he didn’t stop with the attitude.
So although not strictly while at work, some good names nevertheless.
Ken.
3 spring to mind.
Sir Stanley Matthews while in Toronto with the Royal Navy.
Then early 90s was in the Adriatic and had both Kradzic and Milosevic onboard our ship for “peace” talks. Went for a ■■■■ and in walked Milosevic, 30 seconds later Kradzic appears on the other side of me. I only wanted a ■■■■ but nearly poooed myself knowing what these two had got up to ashore.

they do mate yes, but were formed in 1979, their gig supporting Rancid was nearly not happening as Peter and Dell the guitarist had a row and Dell said he wasnt going to play, Peter said Dell was a big Mighty Boosh fan, so i said if i got him tickets would he play? Peter rang Dell and he said yes, so i did! he enjoyed the Boosh, and i loved the concert. One of the best concerts ive ever been to!
speaking of the Mighty Boosh, theyre on at 8.20pm tonight on Dave
Some of the surviving members of the Dam Busters, picked them up from their hotel and took them to RAF Fairford to meet the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, could have listened to their stories all day.

Steven Speilberg, Tom Hanks and Damien Lewis and all the others on Band Of Brothers driving a WW2 GMC for the Series. Quite a few others but i have a brother in the Film and TV ind as a camera operator and i get to meet them through him. Speilberg would talk a glass eye to sleep once you get him interested in a subject. Nice fella.
Does Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards count as someone famous? I met him back in 1988 or thereabouts at what i think was the first children in need concert. He gave me a signed picture, which i still have to this day. Must be worth a mint now. I’ll hold onto it though for my pension, so don’t anyone come on here trying to twist my arm to sell it, coz it’s NOT for sale. I’ve also met less famous people such as Roger Taylor and his Cadbury Flake girlfriend Debbie Leng. What a babe. I could go on, ok i will, Larry Mullens (U2), Jack Sugden (emerdale), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Dr. Legg (eastenders), Chris de Margary, Sarah Brown (Simply Red). Oh! And i once cut up John Majors car on Trafalgar Square.

Last September my wife and I pulled into Masham on our bikes - she went to get the coffees, came back a said she could hear this voice that sounded like Bill Webster off Corries - low and behold he came out of the cafe.
Had a long chat with him what a nice bloke - jumped on his Triumph Tiger and shot off into the distance.
Me the late great Barry Sheene at Brands Hatch in early 80’s smashing bloke - also me Ron Haslam at the same meeting another great bloke with time to chat.
