LET THE RESTORATION BEGIN!!! The cab finally arrived yesterday and is absolutely solid. I cannot believe that a 41 year old 88 cab has just one small piece of rust - unbelievable. I will post progression updates as they happen. H

Great stuff, would welcome your pictures to us all on Trucknet on a regular basis to show how the restoration is going. The cab looks to be in good order - any idea what firm had it originally ? :sunglasses:

Looking at the mesh ‘thingy’ at the bottom of the screen I’d bet that cab came from Australia or New Zealand, this might explain the good condition■■?

And here it is again.

How would i love to get behind the wheel of one of those F88 and take it for a drive … I would not stop smiling for a month

Hi Mark R
This superb pic of the 3 88-290s, did you happen to notice the reg or the name of the Ward and Smith 88 owned by the late John Ward, an uncle of mine used to drive for Ward & Smith and they used to have 3 290s & 1 240 (with a 290 grill on it). He had one of the 290s reg; SUT ***R, and it was named soldier blue. Spent many school holidays trammin about in that. One of the smartest fleets on the road in their day.

hi gunnerheskey,
john ward was a very good mate of mine  ,we first met when i had my f88 back in 2002.i think? the f88 in the photo was registered nce 499r?i have many photos of it.john bought that one in 02/03?ward and smith also ran an f89 many years ago.i attended john’s funeral with my f16,just one of many motors that were there, that seemed so poignant, john would have loved all those trucks that were at hinckley crem that day in sept.07,being driven by his mates in his honour.r.i.p. mate.

Ditto to everything pete359 said - John’s 88 is NCE499R. I have no idea quite what the people in the Glen Gorse Tavern thought when we all rolled up in our wagons to attend the wake!!
