Hello Trev. Dont i know you from somewhere?? Is this the Barrio F88 to wich you refer ■■

And here it is again.

One I used to drive that my Brother bought.

Thanks for pics mark im sure i know you . do you work for fowler welch coolchain

TREV:
Nice photos mate ,i ran my own f89 back in 1987 it was an ex legget freightways motor reg umu 935S it was in the livery of promotor . i pulled flatbeds from ramsgate docks. later on i drove for a kent company called Barrio where i sometimes had one of there f88 .s one in paticular was NFN 214R which now belongs to robinson’s heavy haulage they restored her .
I remember trying to get reverse gear when i was parked on a steep right hand camber .and the only way it went in was to rock the cab from inside.did anyone else have that problem

Remember the problem well! Do you have any info on the whereabouts of an F88 Which I sold to Lionel Larkin of Paddock Wood and he subsequently sold to Split aka Barrio registration No YKX 859 M Think was about 1990

i had the same problem but on an f89 ! seemed to be when the gearbox was cold , with it being a lefty reverse was towards you and back and it felt like you had run out of space to move the stick if you get my drift… very annoying…

TREV:
they smoked so bad on cold mornings but they pulled like a train

i remember having to wedge the accelerater down with a big file and pulling the flap down under the grill to pull the cold start cable … jeeeesh the smoke

Bet this brings back some memories , who remembers the early 290’s with the air operated wipers? & the Radiomobile MW LW radio, a lot of them had them awfull Hatcher fibreglass ‘catwalk’ fuel tanks fitted .

GOOD AFTERNOON ,with ref to ykx 859m Barrio’s bought this motor around 1989/90 ,i think it was a light green colour ,any it was repainted in the famous Barrio fasion, green with a red broken stripe down the sides,it had a roof rack and ladders, and the usual air horn, to complete the look it had a chrome grille, only the small one though it had a 240 lump,i drove it for a while on tilt work out of sheerness docks, even then drivers used to look twice when they saw it :sunglasses:

I ran that truck for many years in my livery which was Ford " Le Mans Green " At the last refurb I fitted the roof rack, ladder, chrome grille & work light etc, would love to find out if she still exists/

Hi Boatchaser, yes thats the same company. They had a fleet of Volvos based near Sittingbourne in Kent. I have a photo of YKX in Barrios colours, will try and dig it out, i think they packed up in the late 90s. The last motors they had were Volvo FH16s but they were never painted in the usual Green colour but left in factory White.

And here it is again.

How would i love to get behind the wheel of one of those F88 and take it for a drive … I would not stop smiling for a month

Would love to get behind the wheel of an f88 ,trying to remember a few things about driving them such as the light steering, the cab jolt when you were steaming up the m1 at 65 mph ,and of course the bad squeeky brakes, and draining a bucket of sludge from the air tanks, boy they were a great truck they seemed to go better pulling a load ,than they did running empty

april 15th 2000.i had at last bought an f88 to restore.every mile gave me a smile

All being well the replacement cab for our F88 should arrive in the yard on Wednesday - let the restoration begin!!!
