Just read an excellent article in this months T&D about F88’s - only ever had chance to drive on - actually an F89 left ■■■■■■. Did lots of miles in an F86 though.

Still both were excellent machines though.

Bring back any memories for you?

Passed my hgv test in an F88 they smoked so bad on cold mornings but they pulled like a train

Yes. the screw cap dash warning lamps, the push button starter button and the brilliant splitter lever on the black box. :stuck_out_tongue:

If I look hard enough there will be a pear drop cylinder head bypass seal in a drawer somewhere. Remember those, a grey rubber seal that was tapped in between the heads with a hammer.

Sad I am not :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh. I forgot deadman handles and pull to stop cables :stuck_out_tongue:

Why was it that only the left hookers had the Brake blocking button on the side of the engine cover?A very useful item.

Not bad but still rotten. (Note lack of grabhandles under the windscreen, you’d pull the filler out!). She’s over in Holland with Leo Bol. Tilt’s been lowered 40cm to save transporting too much air and the cab’s off to fix the rot.

she looks good air ■■■■■, she gonna be ready to join my 141 for a few shows next year?

Could be… Need to sort some lockers out, a period tail lift that will go with the tilt and maybe a trailer. Be a rare sight to see a ‘continental style’ F89 rigid on the show scene.
Can’t find any history about it apart from it’s a ‘Swedish’ truck if you know what I mean.
Here’s a clue of, I think, the original dealer of the truck in Sweden.

Nice looking truck Airpikey.
Reminds me of a few i drove

Mappo I may well be wrong me memory is not what it used to be but didnt that 88 SCR 458N belong to Mick Hennesey I ran with him a lot down to Mantova with ISR rubber and then he would load ex Philco Bergamo and I would have to go to Merano for 28 tonne of apples never seemed fair

Hi Ian,

Nothing wrong with your memory mate, yes it was Micks
and i drove it for him when he was off the road for a while.
Mick then sold the truck to Squibbs, then trading as Transport Services
who i later worked for.

Nice photos mate ,i ran my own f89 back in 1987 it was an ex legget freightways motor reg umu 935S it was in the livery of promotor . i pulled flatbeds from ramsgate docks. later on i drove for a kent company called Barrio where i sometimes had one of there f88 .s one in paticular was NFN 214R which now belongs to robinson’s heavy haulage they restored her .
I remember trying to get reverse gear when i was parked on a steep right hand camber .and the only way it went in was to rock the cab from inside.did anyone else have that problem
