F88

Mark R:
Hi Boatchaser, yes thats the same company. They had a fleet of Volvos based near Sittingbourne in Kent. I have a photo of YKX in Barrios colours, will try and dig it out, i think they packed up in the late 90s. The last motors they had were Volvo FH16s but they were never painted in the usual Green colour but left in factory White.

well 1999/2000 mate the last trucks were plain white as were on hire long term from volvo we had other trucks on the fleet at times as you know most of them were hire in when we were busy the last trucks to have the red and green paint jobs were the f16 :frowning: :frowning: was a shame when the white trucks came i liked the red and green  im glad nfn got put back on the road because it was splits first new lorry he had it done up in the early 90’s new cab from holland and a 240 motor because there was no 290 motors to be had at the time . if i ever have the money id love to get a old volvo and do it up in barrio colours f88 0r f10/f12 f16 but thats just a dream atm

Hiya… heres one of my rides she was about 7 years old and had a very hard life.I bet you.d give your right arm for her nowadays
even if she looks rough.

I posted this photo before but keep your eyes on this space things are happening

turn the clocks back to 1990 and this is HEH she may look like this again when a cab comes.

April '76 in the yard at Milnthorpe. Our first two F88s with the late Mick Wilson our then asst.transport manager standing as “proud as punch” in fron’t of 16/17P.When Mick had worked for Nelsons of Arnside and he got their first 240 F88 in Jan73. which he drove for 18 mths prior to him starting work for us,first on nights then on local shunt then into the traffic office.Mick thought the F88 was the greatest motor on the road!!

This is a shot of a complete K. Fell outfit. We eventually had 3 F88s on both fleets with one of the Bewick tractors being an earlier 240 and 2nd hand.

Some pictures of my dads F88’s

A shot of the yard in Milnthorpe circa early 77’ showing the Bewick 240F88 and also a Bewick 290 and a Fell 111.

hiya,
Can anybody tell me when they moved the windscreen wipers on the f88 from the top of the screen to the bottom, the top mounted ones was air powered and the one i drove used to disintergrate from time to time and the arm used to drop down and start poking in and out of the steering wheel spokes a bit dodgy when driving, always carried a Golden Virginia tin full of cotter pins, washers and split pins to do running repairs.
thanks harry long retired.

No doubt someone will correct me but i think it was when the plastic grill /blue interior models came out - around 73 time( L or M reg)  The first ones with the ‘bottom’ mounted wipers were also still air operated up to P reg

With a tool kit as comprehensive as that “H” you could get any motor home from anywhere I have no doubt!! Dennis.

This is a 76’ shot of a new K.Fell 290 F88 in the depot at Milnthorpe, coupled up to a C/F 40ft loaded with 20 ton of Libbys from their factory next door. The load would be destined for the London area.

hiya,
The motor in question was a chopped 6 wheel heavy haulage motor when i finished with it it was just about knackered having had a hard life before i got to grips with it but at least the bunk had never been used, i think the mattress had been commandeered by the trailer fitters to lay on when servicing/sleeping but i could’nt half get some gear on the bit where the bed was supposed to be, the BRS would never allow sleeping in the cab, who wanted too anyway like i’ve always said i was a driver not the nightwatchman as well, i was only payed until i parked up,

Heres Swift’s first F88 HVV 691N taken in 1975 , this was also the last year the lorries were signwritten- to be superceded by the simpler ‘flying bird’ transfer on the door

By you are a man of my liking “H”! I never slept in the cab either in the years I spent mating/driving,I did a few night flyers mind but that was work not dossing in the cab on a layby somewhere. At finnishing time a good tea inside you, wash and shave and out for a couple of pints! In the pit by half ten or so,up at 5 or 6 depending on the job, full english and set up for the day!! Happy days! Do you possess the power to turn the clock back “H” about 45 years will do me mate!! Cheers Dennis.

Just a couple of old pics of our old 88, whish I had taken more care and had her now (mind you that goes for most of my old motors, lorries and cars)
regards Andrew.

I stand corrected  It was on the K reg they changed to bottom mount wipers still with the chrome grills :unamused:

One I bought which was an ex Ely Transport/Glyn John motor.
