Carryfast:
‘…’[T]rillions’ of pounds haven’t gone to any faceless ‘servants’…’
Then maybe tell us idiots who is the EU’s Chancellor or the Head of the EU Treasury - especially since the audit - into which we pay approx £50 million per day - hasn’t been signed-off as being accountable in the EU for over a decade
As I said it’s more a case of the whole thing being a big foreign aid scam to provide money for German jobs and then enlargement which is all about giving money to Eastern Europe in exchange for big business interests to take advantage of the cheap labour potential available in the East European States. As for Farage and UKIP it’s my guess that he just wants to exchange that situation for doing exactly the same thing but on an even larger scale in the global free market economy instead of the European one. In other words he’s just another Thatcher who can talk the talk but at the end of the day he’s no Shore. He’s just another Thatcher just like Blair but in this case he wants to break our ties with the Germans and replace them with the Chinese.A plague on all their houses.
However,“CF” one thing you can defo forget about and that is to try and persuade me to vote Communist !! Zilch,no chance my Son !! Cheers Comrade Bewick.

The problem with communist infiltration Bewick is that they’re bright enough to do it in a way in which you’d least expect.I think the Chinese Communist Party ( and the Russians ) have benefitted more from Reagan’s and Thatcher’s economic policies than even the Germans have benefitted from our membership of the EU.While Farage’s ideas obviously just seem a case of shifting the balance even more towards even closer economic ties with China instead of Germany and the EU.
There’s nothing communist about the type of economic system that the US was running during the 1960’s which I’m advocating and that system certainly didn’t involve running a trade deficit such as we’ve had with the EEC/EU since we joined it that Heath,Wilson and Thatcher wanted us to be part of.Let alone the global free market economy that Thatcher also supported, together with Reagan, and which Farage wants us to stay part of,in which we just replace a system run by the Germans for the Germans with one run by the Chinese Communist Party for the Chinese Communist Party.
I see what your saying Carryfast but to rebuild the infrastructure of a manafacturing base so we could make even 50% of the stuff we need seems nigh on impossible. We also need to export to bring revenue in and on lots of stuff we would never compete on price.
High end goods and specialist stuff but everyday bread and butter stuff no.

The fact is ( both in our case and the US ) it’s a case of re build our manufacturing sectors and put them back where they were in the 1960’s,together with trade barriers to keep imports of cheaper made goods ( and sometimes more expensive German made ones unless they buy as much from us as we buy from them ) out,or go under.
There is no plan B because there’s no way that the country can sustain the current situation of trade deficits in fuel and manufactured products paid for with borrowed and printed money, while at the same time paying to support unemployed or underpaid workers using taxation revenues because we’ve either exported jobs for cheap imports or imported cheap labour for many of the jobs we have left.
The usual answer to all that will be that other nations will impose trade barriers in return.Who cares considering the trade deficits which we’ve got. While the issue of importation of cheap imports,as opposed to a protected domestic market in more expensive domestically produced goods,is just a reflection of the race to the bottom in wage levels, which is what the global free market economy is all about.
While it’s no surprise that Farage describes himself as a ‘businessman’ not a ‘worker’ in that regard.

Yes but the fact remains we can never be totally self sufficient we don’t have the raw materials to start or an empire to souce things off on the cheap so have to trade to an extent.
To rebuild the factory’s and infrastructure would take years too.
Let’s face it. Without a major natural dieback event, there are just too many people in Europe today.
The very nature of democracy, and it’s inevitable downfall will be that there are low-productive peope outbreeding the high productive ones by a wide margin. Fast forward another 50 years, and the British as a people will go the same way as the Celts. "Just some folk with funny ideas, and a funny religion that used to live on these islands"
or perhaps I should say:- Ùقط بعض القوم مع الأÙكار مضØك، ودين مضØÙƒ التي اعتادوا العيش ÙÙŠ هذه الجزر

The country has never been self sufficient in every raw material. But were/are self sufficient in much of what matters. In additon to that the fact remains that we were self sufficient in,even a net exporter of,manufactured goods which is the main issue now in regards to the trade deficit other than fuel which re opening the mining industry would sort. The problem was that the greedy big business interests lost sight of the idea of Fordism and decided to kick off the race to the bottom by involvement in the politically motivated idea of the EU,which was all about increasing German living standards,at the expense of everyone else, and the global free market economy of cheap imports.Followed by taking advantage of the cheap labour potential of Eastern Europe provided by EU ‘enlargement’.
The result was the perfect storm of lower incomes, leading to reduced spending power in the economy, leading to increased unemployment and a massive trade deficit in fuel and manufactured goods,on an ever increasing scale owing to the effects of an economy based on the total opposite of Fordist principles.Which is where where we are now.The process of deindustrialisation, which took place during the 1970’s/1980’s actually mostly took place over a period of less than 10 years.Which logic says is all it would take to reverse that situation.
However regardless of your arguments the fact is we don’t really have any choice anyway. It’s a case of do it by taking the economy back to the situation which applied, before it started going wrong during the 1970’s,or go under sooner or later.

In this country’s case the low ‘productivety’ has mostly been the result of a deliberate policy of de industrialisation,to make the Germans even better off and to provide some extra short term profit for big business,by taking adavantage of imports produced in cheaper labour labour countries,or in the case of the coal industry cheap dumped loss leader imports obviously with the intention of destroying the domestic coal industry making us dependent on imported fuel.
As for the high population figures in this country at least it would be interesting to see what those figures would be now without any of the immigration that has applied here since the end of WW2.As for the rest of Europe who cares but France has never been known for having a massive population while the rest of Europe’s population probably hasn’t changed much over that same period.
I do think you have a serious obsession with Germany and its economy, having worked there, it was the worst paid job I have had, even worse than Belgium who rely on a well known black economy.
Remember Harry and his sausage factory, if you want to manufacture something to sell, you can bet your last shekel that the Eastern Europeans will manufacture & sell more sausages than the UK can
There have been a lot of good comments on here, from a lot of intelligent people, the worst thing of it all in my opinion,is, that whatever we say, ■■■■ all happens, the politicians don’t give a ■■■■, they know they can claim for a second house, or a duck house and it will be approved, they are a bunch of chancing barstewards. The more serious issue at the moment is the relaxing of the rules allowing the Romanians and Bulgarians free access to come to Britain and get all the freebies that the hard done by British homeless and needy cannot. They are running an ad campaign at the moment to try and dissuade them from coming here, I can tell them how to stop them coming here right now. Put a big sign up at every entry port in Britain, stating, that, “if you have never contributed to the economy of this country, you are not getting one penny from this Government”, that was what was told to me the first day, I arrived to live in France, I was told in no uncertain terms, that if I have not worked or contributed in any way, I would receive nothing, The French government tells all immigrants this, that is why they all pass through France without stopping, on their way to Handout Britain, and we still have the Turks next,
No surprise what happened after we’d joined the EU and after Thatcher got in and then when the global free market economy started to affect the economy from the late 1980’s on and through the 21’st century. The words falling and North Face of the Eiger seem to describe it.

Yes, I would love to leave in the sixties, seventies if it was possible… Great cars, bikes, more ■■■■ women with hairy…erm…armpits… BUT: time is gone, and the main reason of the fall of the british industry is very simple; the quality was poor. More exactly, poorer, than products made by other countries. Think (for example) Rover. Or just go to the bathroom;on the continent they started installing mixertaps in the seventies, in Britain still can see mostly the old fashioned (rubbish) separated taps:(

This is one reason why production went downhill in this country. youtube.com/watch?v=vBgcea3KucE
unions [zb]ed everything up, They went too far, Right into the hands of maggie and the Germans.
yesterday was one of my rest days and it happened to be the day that questions to the DWP were aired on the floor of the house of commons…
DWP minister ian duncan smith stated that there are already plans in place that will be implemented by the end of 2013 to stop any new immigrants from coming here and claiming benefits without contributing to the system first. the eu says that they would be entitled to feed of our system but the government says that they won’t (the government got summat right) it’s also the reason why the whole benefits system is changing and it’s all happening before the bulgies and romans are added to the ever expanding europe.
i hope that they get it right cos there’s very little work for the natives let alone the unwanted imports - the cast offs that couldn’t make it elsewhere…
how many more roman/bulgie trucks are we going to see on our roads ■■?
the government is also widenening the A1 towards newcastle from south yorks — yay summat else they got right.
the government had an ok day yesterday - but it decided that HS2 is going to be built it’s just going to take another 10years to finish - this projects dead before it starts methinks

Last time I looked, it was the non-EU immigrants that come over here, and then live off the state - NOT the eastern European ones who’ll not go beyond housing benefit (although that’s still bad enough!) having got a job…
I don’t want to risk being stabbed by a Somali in Streatham or be a victim of the people that should not be here in the first place.
THIS is not a country for other country’s fugitives to come over to, and set up business as criminals - and yet, “Political Correctness” says we must do just that.
PC says we can’t have a revolution either - because the people are then all terroists, and the state will just murder the public like in Syria!
Perhaps one day, the establishment of this nation might become a victim of the country that they’ve created - get voted out by the expanding population of immigrants and never returned to office again!
Not voting at all or voting for the incumbent prevents that. Get out there and vote against everyone until you get the changes in your community you want. No changes? - Every politician becomes a single-term candidate then.
It’s upto the population to prevent this obscenity of “Safe Seats” in this country where “Safe Tory Seat” means a paedo with a blue rosette gets elected over businesspeople creating hundreds of jobs, but wearing another colour buttonhole!
That was a party political broadcast on behalf of the ■■■■■■■■■■ majority party.

Blimey what a load of stereotypical bs.There were actually people still living in old victorian houses during the 1970’s my Grandmothers being two of them.Poor quality British engineering bs.Like the zb Germans built a plane which could compete with a VC10 or French Citroens and Renaults were better than those Jags,Rovers, and Triumphs.Although admittedly the Germans knew how to build a car just so long as you wanted to pay more than Jaguar money, for what was just an uprated 1960’s Ford Zodiac, with 1960’s type Triumph type rear suspension,in that E3 BMW which I’ve described and the Merc wasn’t any different either except for it’s V8 engine option.Anyway you seem to know a lot about the engineering standards which applied in British factories during the 1970’s so exactly what engineering experience of working in a British factory during the 1970’s have you got .It’s my bet you’ve never even seen a typical British engineering production operation of the time in action let alone been part of it and as I’ve said before if it wasn’t for the British engineering industry most of Europe would be speaking German now as part of a 1,000 year Reich. At least those who ze Germans decided were good enough for slave labour. Not forgetting that Russia was part of the axis when British made Spitfires took on the Luftwaffe in 1940.
As for that time being gone. The fact is we’ve got a choice of either going back to the type of economic growth shown in that post, which as the figures show was a steady upward trend during the 1960’s followed by take off in 1970 ( until we joined the EU ).Or stay where we are in the EU and the global free market economy in which case those figures and the graph say everything about the obvious results of where that policy will eventually take us.
