Talks to self
Goaty:
Sorry to interrupt the US economics lecture CarryF-all, I’ve just heard a rumour that Elite have packed up!
As you know the rule here (rightly) is no rumours allowed. The discussion is all about the actual documented news reports in this case which seem to suggest that jobs in the road transport industry are being lost because of the government’s policy of switching freight from road to rail using unfair trading practices directed at road transport. The discussions concerning similar issues going on across the Atlantic are relevant to that.
I think the fact loads of firms in the USA and Canada have adverts all over there trucks in the trade press etc crying out for otr drivers during a world recession tells you people don’t want to do the job.
Anyway my original point is elite went skint due to poor trading conditions and rates been unsustainable as they have been for a long time.

No according to the documented reports the problem is/was shortage of work and no surprise that the figures given for the amount of shortfall reflect exactly the amount of growth in the rail freight sector.Although it’s obvious that the economic issue is part of that because the rail freight industry are using the nation’s taxation system as a weapon against the road transport industry to provide themselves with a competitive advantage.
Oh look, Carryfast lecturing everyone on a part of the industry he has no experience of and knows nothing about. Fancy that. Did you drive past Felixstowe once in your ‘Jag’?

I am sure Carryfast is the editor for the kin Beno… that was full of crap aswell just like this
It doesn’t really matter to a Chinese shipper whether his containers are delivered to Hamburg, Rotterdam or Antwerp, the chance of getting his ships into these larger ports are much greater than waiting 3 days off Felixstowe for the wind to drop.
Is the modern term crossdocking where the loads are sorted and distributed, 150 container loads of kitchen sinks to Tesco, 75 loads to Darcy and 100 to Baumarkt. The ship is already empty and the containers are on the way to delivery using the best available methods. Meanwhile in Southampton there is an over supply of lorries waiting outside the dock with empty containers on, the ports do not want them, the ship is delayed in Southampton water because the cranes have fallen over in Felixstowe again.
Bulgarian 2XL lorries in Zeebrugge can be in central London within 3 hours of the ship docking there & for less than half the price of Elite.
Still no trains used or required except the channel tunnel.
as was pointed out too me once, there is so many containers come into the country a year, therefore the pie is only so big… = too many fingers in the pie, and you will never beat maritime. they can afford to price cut to their hearts content whereas everyone else tries to keep up.

That bs explanation doesn’t seem to match the facts to me.

So why not post something intelligent yourself to make a case for the opposition thereby putting the thread back on track in your view as you want to see it.

Because I imagine like me he’s probably realised he may as well headbutt a brick wall as try to have an ‘intelligent’ debate with you.

If you’re intelligent enough to understand what I said you’d realise that it’s got nothing to do with any personal discussion with me.The idea (should be) all about posting a point of view/case on a forum.Nothing more.Which, obviously unlike ‘some’ on here,is exactly what I’ve done.
What’s the point all we will get is a Wikipedia post of 1970s American rail freight data. When anyone else can see the job is been done to cheap to be sustainable.

In this case it’s the facts contained in those 2012 news reports and the link to the facts concerning the activeties at the port of Southampton which matter and there’s nothing there which show that the job losses in question had anything to do with the job being done too cheap to pay the drivers and keep the trucks on the road.So exactly how would putting rates up have helped in this case assuming rail freight already has a competitive advantage in the market just based on fuel costs alone.
Im intelligent enough to realise Carryfast that the reason its pointless debating with you is you’re like a stuck record regurgitating the same often misinformed crap over and over again. You just think you can win an argument by shouting the same thing endlessly, thats why its not worth getting involved with daft debates with you. Your deaf and blind to anyone else.

Oh look how ironic, he asks for intelligent posts then replies with that. Well done. You can use the smileys as much as you like, most on here will agree that statement is perfectly true.
