Not so elite now

I would think the subcontractors have worries regarding future payment,
its not the best time of year to be out of work as a hgv driver
As soon as I got a whiff of this there is no way I would still have a lorry on there, “keeping subcontractors going from the site” … I wonder why, pull the plug owing 90 days worth of work to the subbies.
They pay subbies on a weekly basis, so hopefully most subbies could survive a hit like that.
To switch from weekly to in some cases 60-90 days will break quite a few subbies

I’d be out of there in a shot if I was subby
i saw this and was wondering if Elite were hoping for the christmas rush to save the company, however with it being soo dead out there, it were not to be for this company if not for many others also
Unfortunately I don’t think this will be the last over the next few months. Many were relying on Christmas being a boost to finances and from what I have seen and the companies I know it hasn’t particularly been a busy period.
I’m guessing a few retailers may well pack it in if Christmas hasn’t been what they expected - when retailers go they ususally take a few hauliers with them.
I feel very sorry for those that have lost their jobs. I hope they get what monies they are due.
Guess that explains why no one has got back to me about a job then!
I used to work for Elite a few yrs back…not a bad firm to be honest, and the Southampton lads were a good bunch.
Very sad news for those drivers down there.
When I saw the Title I thought it was on about the illustrious Stobbies (thats the knock over for another week
)… jokes aside feel sorry for the drivers ( Elite not Stobbies) sorry…sorry… just can’t help myself
So who owns Elite and how big a company are they ?.

Don’t know the actual owner, think it’s the Whites family though, firm is quite big, same family also run WCSL.
theve just recently took out a loan to pay for there new head office in trafford park
MD is a guy named Gary Bethel…
There are/were quite big…easily over 100 trucks…had a lot on contract to OOCL and Evergreen…
I would have happily gone back to work for them…have been trying to get back into their Brum depot recently…no one’s answering emails or phone calls though!
Can they do this?
My husband lost his job with Elite last Saturday… If they had paid what they owed ie Redundancy and Notice pay as they should have it may not have been such a blow … they have not ceased trading but the Drivers’ have been told they have to apply for a RP1 form to get it from the Government … If they had NO money they would cease trading … so they can choose to not pay it and the Tax/NI payer has to stump up for them??”
with all the new rules this so called government has changed for employment laws it is probably legal to do this

yea but wcsl went under in 12 months and elite took em over was asking one of there drivers about it today he said they they all went down to southampton and pick up a load of motors n tris and there doing the same again at felix this week he said the units were ones on dedicated contracts ie apl so he thinks they may have lost a big contract but he aint heard a thing about them going under
We have just watched Elite trucks running out of the Dock and in and out of Elite yard in Southampton, gates are locked, but unlocked and relocked on each arrival and departure of each truck??
The letter the drivers received on their group meeting last Saturday states “With immediate effect our vehicle operations in both Fxt and Soton will cease. This will effectively mean that all own vehicles will be removed from these locations, all drivers and a significant number of office based staff will have their employment with the company terminated”
Why do they have to tell such lies and act so dishonestly, they are blatantly operating out of Southampton which is a contradiction to what they were told and what the official letter states??
The Drivers received basic pay for last week, no overtime, nights out or expenses, to add to the no notice or redundancy pay.
IMHO Sub contractors beware, Elite cannot be believed and have proved that this week.
I saw a convoy of Elite trucks with empty trailers heading north on the A34 at Oxford, probably on there way to Manchester
