Don’t let the benefits office know you’ve got a licence then… It’s not as if they’ll be offering you any £10+ work now is it?
When I signed on 2 years back, I told them I was an out of work commodities trader. Let’s see them fit me up with some bummy job based on THAT. [/quote
lol… dont work like that anymore, if it did to start? a mate of mine ended up on dole and decided he wanted to change career and did,nt tell job centre, they found it out on his NI number and checking past that he had HGV so thats pretty much all he got offered…

I don’t think anything works anymore you will still be working in Poundland for free - oh and no longer classed as unemployed either.
■■■■■■■■ post, I worked as a postie for a few months/weeks in edinburgh.
Was doing basically 2 runs for the price of 1, wouldn’t get paid overtime as they thought it was doable in the allocated time (yes if I ran all the way.)
Delivering giros in a grotty area called Magdelane with countless junkies stalking me on giro day wanting it before I got to the door.
Every street at least 3-4 story flat a couple higher with upto 30~ in some blocks.
Cost cutting Royal Mail, not offering full time perm contracts, paid fortnightly.
If you miss it that much ■■■■ off back to it, because I know I earn 3-4 times as much per week now as I did back then.
So what if some companies advertise ■■■■ rates, pay peanuts get monkeys. Not every jobs the same.
And that Sunday rate, yes it is ridiculous hahaha but some stupid ■■■■ will do it.

Can anyone smell something strange in here ?
Whilst there are low paid jobs on trucks surely there must be some very well paid ones too.
I think there is I’m happy with my wage it’s not mega bucks but an honest days pay for an honest days work.
You will never get drivers to stand together on pay issues as they is always one driver or another who refuses to,it’s usually the biggest moaner aswell that just rolls over and let’s the office tickle his belly.
Busmanian:
But was it the 40k job that allowed you the xtra money to make them investments so that down the line you don’t have to work?.
Actually it wasn’t. I stepped down from a £100k+ job to do the £40k one.
Hello Luke .
Are you disappointed that I listened to Mike C and left you be.You bored me really easily sorry, nowhere near the calibre of posters like Carryfast & Happy Keith (or the king of Devils Advocates, Rob K) when it comes to maintaining my interest. Toddle off now and have a happy New year.
Edit; I see the paranoia is getting serious now, you actually think Busmanian is me. I suggest you get a life old bean. As pointed out, you’re actually rather boring compared to the real Trucknet debaters, so the last thing I’d do is waste anymore of my life setting up seemingly dozens of accounts to troll you. As any mod could point out I’m sure. I suggest you take Mike C 's friendly advice and leave it there.
No more films on your telly because they made their money & retired to your life of Riley.
What music do you like?
Shame they never made a 2nd album . . . cos they retired to your life of Riley.
What’s the last product you bought?
Shame it was never made cos the bloke that started the Co’ retired to your life of Riley as soon as he hit 1 £million.
Do people who have lots of £money lack imagination Luke?
Personally, I think it’s those sad [zb] who dream of wealth, yet hate the wealthy, who lack imagination.
As it happens, and I suggest Busmanian may be called Ian not Luke Chas, I disagree with him. No amount of money would make me give up work of some form or another. The thought of a life of 100% leisure time fills me with dread. Unlike many I don’t dream of wealth, never have, if I did I wouldn’t be a truck driver, nor do I hate the wealthy…in fact my best mate works insanely hard (more than any truck driver), set up his own digital agency, earns an insane amount of money and guess what? I admire him more than anyone I know for what he’s creating. And indeed in the next few years plan to give up driving to be trained (which has already started) and work for him full time.
Come to mention it, as much as I like my job if I came into mega bucks I think I would invest into something I would like to pursue more, maybe something that would not turn a massive profit but something hobby related just to keep the mind and body ticking over between holidays
Road Transport is and has been for many years a extremely competitive business, if a haulier can get good drivers for £7.80 why would they pay more? and why would they pay extra for weekends when they don’t have to.
One of the big costs in haulage are wages and they are one of the few things an employer has control of, fuel, tyres, insurance, maintenance, tax , continue to rise in price usually out pacing the rates offered, the list of overheads is endless and the profit margins for the amount of investment required are tiny.
As a driver it may be a good idea to do some research into the costs, believe me they are truly staggering.

Workers have bills too…
Sadly that would be of little or no concern to the haulier.
Jimmychoo:
Posties stood up for their pay and conditions, went on strike when needed. 7.5 tonne drivers are paid about £11:00 a hour at Royal Mail
Not for long the mail is now a P.L.C whose management won’t tolerate such behavior, Down Hill Logistics or dressingtable will get the gig and that will be the end of such silliness. Another good gig gone.

It’s not that it wouldn’t be of concern to a haulier, it’s just that there would be little point in giving an employee a pay rise if you had to give him his P45 three months later because his pay rise meant the truck was now earning less than it cost to run.
I’ve never heard of a company folding because they paid their drivers too much…
If the admin staff are overpaid, or there are too many staff in some other area, and there’s a lot of pilfering going on, then it’s quite amazing that there are not a lot more bust firms out there, seeing as one sees a lot of it about.
Think it depends on where you are in your driving career and what your circumstances are.
First C+E job I took was 7.20ph I had no experience and needed the money, lasted a week and the units I was given were absolute sheds, the last night I was there I defected 3 for serious faults, drivers were treated like ■■■■, enough was enough, I was keen not ■■■■■■■ desperate.
Now doing agency mostly in at a regular customer (big international company), units are mostly mint and very well maintained (60 plate axors currently being replaced with new actrosses), drivers treated with respect and pay is pretty decent
