Drivers paid less than Posties

Busmanian:
And some would still work if they won the lotto jackpot.

Now thats just weird

I don’t work just for the money, but it’s important to me that what the job pays reflects the effort I put into it !

I wouldn’t do my job for less than £8ph, full stop. I walked away from a driving job that paid £40k+ a year for a job that paid £19k simply because of the lifestyle change it brought.

Even then, I don’t actually ‘have’ to work. I have income from investments that could comfortably support me, in fact, more than what I can earn driving !

My £19k job will never be threatened by an influx of drivers who do not “speaky de Ingly” because the customers I deliver too will not tolerate it (this has been proven BTW).

My job is threatened by English speaking drivers prepared to work for less than £8ph, these might be newly qualified drivers who were earning £6.31ph in a McJob before they managed to save £1500 up for their LGV licencse, but mostly it’s drivers with a few years under their belts whose incomes are subsidised by housing benefits & tax credits.

It chokes me, that the tax I pay for being a working man, pays for the benefits, that enables the bloke who would steal my job for less than it’s worth.

So it a hobby for you? that you get paid for umm

But was it the 40k job that allowed you the xtra money to make them investments so that down the line you don’t have to work?.

Can you not think of anyone who is rich beyond your wildest dreams yet they still choose to work?

How many £millions in the bank would it take for you to give up working?

What would you do with . . . say . . . £3million?

Trade your missus in for a pneumatic blonde? An extended Caribbean cruise perhaps? Maybe buy a few racehorses & drink yourself to death on Champagne whilst waiting for the 3.15 at Epsom.

Some folk have lots of money because it reflects some other qualities they have, not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouth & not everyone puts their all into improving their lot & succeeds.

Actually it wasn’t. I stepped down from a £100k+ job to do the £40k one.

Hello Luke  .

Only someone with little imagination.

Can anyone smell something strange in here ?

Whilst there are low paid jobs on trucks surely there must be some very well paid ones too.

OK, lets turn your world upside down Luke.

Who’s your favourite actor/ess?

No more films on your telly because they made their money & retired to your life of Riley.

What music do you like?

Shame they never made a 2nd album . . . cos they retired to your life of Riley.

What’s the last product you bought?

Shame it was never made cos the bloke that started the Co’ retired to your life of Riley as soon as he hit 1 £million.

Do people who have lots of £money lack imagination Luke?

Personally, I think it’s those sad [zb] who dream of wealth, yet hate the wealthy, who lack imagination.

Yes, we get £19 an hour on Sundays, nobody’s ever worked one though

I park my truck up at weekends, but theoretically I could be offered regular Sunday work for it. I couldn’t do it myself because of my weekend break obligations, maybe I could put a driver on?

Well, yes, but the rate I would be offered would be no higher simply because the work was carried out on Sunday, diesel isn’t any cheaper on Sundays, how would I be able to pay somebody £50 more simply because it was Sunday if there was only £30 profit in the job in the first place?

Answer, I couldn’t and so I’d just leave the truck parked up. Most drivers simply do not have a clue about even the most basic rules of economics.

Under 8 quid an hour for days Monday to Friday is. ■■■■■■■ joke.

If you want me to turn a wheel on Sunday it’s double time or you can do one.

I won’t work nights for less than a Tenner an hour an a minimum of 10 hours

I don’t struggle to find work but if I did I probably would consider that wage as I said days Monday to Friday. There’s enough silly ■■■■ a working for cheap wages and hurting us all by doing it

I was a postie for 20 years believe me they work for their money swings and roundabouts short hours rubbish job truckin easy job long hours uunfortunately the postie job took its toll on my health or I would of carried on do miss it but to be honest I can earn more doin truckin just have to put the hours in though.

Postman maybe harder but not the same skill level as a truck driver. I’m sure a postman’s job is harder than an Air traffic controller?! After all they just sit at a desk, looking at a screen and chat on a radio to pilots right ■■?

Thinking further about this the comparisons to driving a lorry to other jobs or visa versa is not really viable in that lorry driving has so many disciplines for example, the driver loading handball, sheeting and roping, plant, heavy haulage, containers, tankers and so on. In some of these the driver works more than other drivers and some drivers have the odd night out and some tramp or do Euro work.
So the pay will vary massively (or should do).
Those that think we/they are steering wheel attendants need to look at the bigger picture of the industry.

So i guess my problem is with people like you who think it’s fine to expect an individual to pay serious money to obtain a professional qualification

Yes i did think twice about posting that

…but nevertheless, it’s a qualification without which we cannot do our job:neutral_face:

Nah. That’s a DCPC come this september. Everywhere I go it’s “Clean licence and zero hours DCPC? - You’re crap mate. Get lost. 9 points endorsements on the other hand, and you use your phone everyday whilst driving with a 4pack of special brew in the cab with you but have 35 hours DCPC credit already in hand? - You start monday matey. Obviously not worried about doing the boss the occasional (bent) favour. Guys like you we want.”
:imp: :imp:

How do you get to become a licenced anything these days? - You buy a licence. Real Training, Skills, Safety, and staff shortages have gone the way of the dodo that way.

…Careful there. You’ll have “planners” saying they are worth £100k a year next. They think they are God’s gift as it is. Let’s not encourage them any more poleeze!

I was a postie for 22 years, and the only toll it took on my heath was being 23 when I started, and 45 when I finished. :unamused:

nice one tom,keith

Some of us don’t have a choice but to accept a job with low pay, if you’re on job seekers and you refuse a job your benefits get stopped, so it’s either take the job or have no money at all, also I can’t imagine if I was working and my boss asked me to work a Sunday at the same rate and I refused or told him where to go that I’d last long in that company, that boss doesn’t have to give you a job there are plenty of others out there who do want to work and will gladly take every penny they can. I will without guilt say that when I pass my tests I will take what ever work I can get so I can pay my way, weather that is 8+ an hour or minimum wage I need to work. As it stands I’m planning a trip to the army careers office soon as they are after logistics drivers for 17k+ a year which is a massive difference to the 9k a year I was on last year
