Well had my 3rd session today, WTD and the second half once again back to health and safety I am now a lorry driver who can competently lift a box, I had to sit there for the second half off the lesson listening and watching video clips off how to lift a ■■■■■■■ box, really!■■
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m finding so many off the “laws” and regs contradict themselfs, there’s so many grey areas I’m still none the wiser to what I’ve been doing over the last 8 years. Either way I have come to the conclusion that no matter how hard I try to do things properly, to drive as well as I can, look after my lorry keep my paper work in order if I get pulled there’s going to be something ill get shafted for so sod it.
Apparently according to my preacher there will be a huge influx off young new drivers come the end off next year, it’s already being planned for(how you plan for it god knows) as there are so many off us who will not complete the 35 hours, how is there going to be a huge serge In new young drivers?they have to find the funding for there medical, theory, training and test, and then cpc then ontop off that how many young men and women have that money laying around? There is still money left in this game if you get in with the right firm willing to pay and get the hours in newbies can’t even find a job so why would anyone want to shell out a small fortune and spend a year waiting for half a dozen shifts on agency I think by next year the industry will loose alot off good experienced drivers that firms will struggle to replace all because there 20/30 years experience behind the wheel is not qualified enough without 35 hours in a portababin.
got 7 hours to do. perhaps just perhaps with all the drivers not doing it and new drivers not being faffed with the bollox we will become sought after and see a massive rise in wages

they said that about the revocation of the 7.5 ton entitlement on car licences.
they said the EU driver hours regs would regulate and therefore unify wages for all European drivers.
funny how this crap comes in just as romania and bulgaria become the new cheap labour of Europe.

This is exactly what I hope to see happen too!

Finished all mine with last coarse yesterday
So no more classroom work until next year but i learned abit and paid nothing for it just abit of time. So at least i wont get a £30 fine for not being able to prove i have my intitlement to drive

Keep swallowing the Lib-Lab-Con bolleaux of deception to see it happen in a yard near you very soon
Not taking part in the dcpc training is a choice for some of us, but why would you take away a mans rite to a living for 35 hours of non practical training ? and can anyone explain why would a bloke who’s got 6 months or say a year to go to official retirement need to pay for this ? just beggers belief, why not put the training into the class one course for new drivers…if they think its a benefit, i just wonder how many would attend these courses if it were free ? free gratis…not many …perhaps the OCD card collecter would be there.
I think that the OP has got a rough deal indeed. At our place we have done it on company time and have had our 7 hours yearly for the last 4 years and are hence up to date with it all. The thing to bear in mind there’s no opting out of it, come the day, if you don’t have that little card which must be carried at all times BTW, then you have no driving entitlement, HGV wise. Apparently there are draconian measures waiting to be taken against transgressors.
There seems to be great discrepancies among companies, and their approach to the DCPC, and of course, it’s mainly the drivers who are catching the crap for it, as ever. The better companies are providing the training, and on company time, and the worse they get, the less effort they are making on behalf of their drivers. To an extent, one can sypathise in that a company that has a high driver turnover will be throwing good money after bad, whereas the good companies who mostly retain the same staff will most probably score well over their rivals.
shytalk:
‘…why would you take away a mans rite to a living for 35 hours of non practical training… ?’
Because it’s an EU Directive
shytalk:
‘…why not put the training into the class one course for new drivers…?’
Again, because it’s an EU Directive - and which the UK (via your Lib-Lab-Con MP) has no will or power to politically challenge
Keith, would you want to pay out a few hundred quid if you were going to retire…i know i wouldnt, im semi retired now and cant justify the cost…so just the grandfather rites until next year, im not into dictatorship so it grinds against the grain…never been a yes man…ill kiss your arse to get on in life person…ill look from time to time see if anything suits…if it doesnt i wont have any sleepless nights…i would rather give the money to my kids.
This DCPC nonsense will cause major issues with school bus operators. There are lots of older men who just drive for that couple of hours every school day who intend to finish as they see no point in acquiring training at their time of life.I have my card and now know about one trainers child care arrangements( she lives near her mum) and and a class 2 holder cant drive a unit blah, blah blah.also the FIat 500 is made in Poland its the same car as a Ford Ka just a different body shell. All of this makes me a Professional?
Done my last 2 classes last Friday and today, no more to do for another 2 years,
shytalk:

No; nor would I advocate anyone to play the lemming in any EU diktat

Anybody have an answer ? there must be drivers on the forum who are near retirement, are you going to get stiffed ? or just shrug your shoulders and pay up ?
last 7 hours done yesterday, on shift at company expense. DQC 2019
Ran over hours and such, trainer said 30 mins every six hours, then proceeded to hand out FTA driver’s handbook which clearly shows an example of 15’s being used to satisfy WTD.
I nodded and said nothing, given up trying to explain this to people. Ignorance is bliss
finished mine on saturday im sure we have done the same stuff in at least 3 sittings thou
