Maybe not - but driving is easy money in a recession.
And don’t forget - it was the youngsters of yesterday that accepted
todays pay freezes. They turned their backs on Transport Unions.

This business is f***ed Waiting for my “C” and “D” licence to come back after submitting my D2 and D4 but starting to wonder if it is really worth it.
I’d suggest making this topic a poll.
I’ve done 3 days. I’m an agency worker so I paid for them myself.
They have been class room sessions so far, and don’t gain a lot from them, so I’ll see if I can do something more practical for my nest two.
I’ve not done any.
I booked a course in August to do the whole 5days. I’ve got a PSV licence too (I’ve never used the PSV) but thought it might be handy to keep hold of given the current job market

5 days in a row is going to be brain damage!! Rather you than me!
The dcpc contradicts itself if you think about it…you pass your test in a class 1 and your chuffed…then they brought the dcpc in…so in theory its worthless …can you take the dcpc without a hgv licence…no…i mite be wrong ? so the money you pay is a licence to drive a truck, without it your buggered…and your 25-30 odd yrs is down the pan…was just for fun…i just dont get it…i can retain the rite to drive but not for reward- wages, no point in retaining my licence to drive a truck…im not doing it for fun i would be doing it for a living as most of us are…its such a con…what next ? how can any young lad even think about the job as a career move…in this day and age.
Rob K:
I’m not doing it. Tax on our jobs. I will wait til September 2014 when it will get scrapped due to mass shortage of drivers and laugh in the faces of every mug that’s paid for it while my phone rings nonstop from desperate haulage companies asking me to name my price to get their trailers full of beans til Tesbury’s. Yep.
i will be laughing my ■■■■ off when your out of work in 2014 mate
I’ve done my 35 and have my shiny card. I can see how people are miffed about it if they’re having to pay it out of their own pocket but you have to do it so ■■■■ it up or plan a new career. That’s just the way it is.
It’s mind numbingly boring for the most part but its infinitely worse when you have guys sitting there complaining, chipping in every 5 minutes with another sarky comment. There was nearly a riot my last 7 hours because one ■■■■ wouldn’t stop moaning. Sit there and take it and you might get finished a little earlier. On every one of my courses we were out the door as soon as the “trainer” was happy nobody was going to turn up to audit him.

It’s incredibly difficult to take rights away from a legal standpoint to the point of being virtually impossible. Where they have it often relies on no-one actually calling their bluff and taking it all the way in court.
That’s why it’s worded ‘driving vocationally’ and for example pre 1997 licence holders keep grandfather rights on 7.5 tonners. They don’t like to let this on.
Previously, I would have said if you’re reliant on driving vocationally for a living you need to get it. However, things are moving in a surprising way politically and I think now I would have to think very carefully about spending my own money on it before, what looks like an increasing possibility, of an EU referendum.

Why would you find it amusing to see a fellow driver out of work? The phrase divide and conquer springs to mind here!
I freely admit to having the card in my possession, but that’s only because unfortunately I’m a wage slave and NEED to earn a living.
Perhaps if we all took Robs or Shytalks example or even the great Rubber Ducks and said “I aint gonna pay no toll” this farce would simply go away! But it aint going to happen as long as we’re all good little workers and toe the Government line.
got my card through the other day, at least the DSA are quicker at processing stuff than the DVLA are !

Even if there was a vote to leave the EU (which I personally don’t think is a foregone conclusion by any means) (1) it will be at least 3 years after the need for a DCPC card, (2) it will not be at the forefront of changes the government will want to make because (3) it makes money for them…
