Drivers CPC ... how we all getting on?

DearBoy:
last 7 hours done yesterday, on shift at company expense. DQC 2019

Ran over hours and such, trainer said 30 mins every six hours, then proceeded to hand out FTA driver’s handbook which clearly shows an example of 15’s being used to satisfy WTD. :unamused:

I nodded and said nothing, given up trying to explain this to people. Ignorance is bliss

And drivers are paying for this crap, if i was 25 yrs old again i wouldnt pay for this dross…id rather shovel ■■■■ !

Anybody else done this particular module?

just clocked up another 7 hours to take me upto 21 hours completed, I’ll have done 35 by Friday, it’s my 1st week at tesco and they are putting me through 21 hours this week.

.
One local Agency has put up the price from £60 to £65, including VAT.

I predict that DriverCPC will be dropped after September 2019.

They will certainly stop allowing the 5 times the exact same module.

We should start a petition after September next year.

Start one now !..its not going to get any better.

if you scan jobs on the jobcentre website the firms are including “must have at least 21 hours cpc to date”
just another reason a lot of people can’t apply for jobs

why not put the training into the class one course for new drivers

Some of us have CAT C and CE driving courses approved as driver cpc courses. 2 birds - one stone!

Ayup Pete, hope your well, i wouldnt expect anything less from your company Peter, but i still wont be budged on the the DCPC…its a tax nowt else, a bitter pill for a lot of people to swallow.

I’ve always known the driver cpc, in it’s present form, is flawed. Just look at the number of trainers now approved to offer the training. There’s loads in my local area that I’ve never heard of. Where have they come from? What’s their background? What do they know? Can they actually teach?

In my humble opinion, the bar for centre approval should be raised substantially (anyone can register and get approved using their home address - no training centre required), there should be some sort of test at the end of the session to give it some credibility and the people carrying out the audits should be better trained to pass sensible comment.

The trainers themselves should have relevant transport qualifications. At the moment, the criteria runs much more down the lines of teaching qualifications. So, in theory, someone who has been teaching flower arranging for 10 years can read a book on health and safety in transport and away they go. Little wonder the reaction of most drivers is what it is!

The clamp down needs to happen from above. Courses are being run “under time”, using non-approved materials and often delivered in a shoddy manner. We set ourselves up to be good (not perfect) and it’s wrong that we cop for the generalised negative comments that are, on the whole, generated by the poor quality offerings from the cowbow set-ups.

I feel a lot better now!

Pete

Hi Pete, i agree with everything you said…i could set up tomorrow ! i can get access to a classroom for very little outlay…and waffle all day, the difference being i have been doing the job in all its glory not as long you have but its transport background…i wasnt flower arranging for the past 30 odd yrs,it is flawed in a big way and i do see it as a tax on drivers…its like trying to tell you your job…after doing it for many yrs, i dont think you would be happy about it…some dumpling with no transport background fumbling there way through from a text book and dressing it up as the DCPC, you have probably read some of my posts…ill not bore you to death…ill health has put me out of action for a while…so i decided to retire early…my doc wont give me the ok to drive artics at the moment, try getting a bit of part time on the little-uns.is like asking for someones kidney ! , agency Pete im on about, i was told last week because i havnt driven a 7.5 tonne in the past 2 yrs they couldnt offer me any work…i ■■■■■■■ myself, as well as blood boiling, experience in there eyes counts for nowt, all i want is 2 or 3 days work a week…get me out of her indoors hair plus a few bob for my hobbys…you would think i was asking for them to fly me to the bloody moon…i give up ! nice to hear from you Pete…take care.

Peter Smythe:
‘…The trainers themselves should have relevant transport qualifications…’

It’s only an observed and old cliche, but:

1 Those that can do a job, get on and do it

2 Those that can’t do it (no offence, but maybe they need the steady hours, bless them), are often found teaching it

3 Whilst those grey souls who can’t do either - but who fancy the idea of outreaching their ability and federalising the UK, go into European Union ‘management’

Who here has ever, as a driver or as a constituent, been democratically consulted on the DCPC - or who might be best empowered to extract the UK’s professional driver training needs and then instruct, teach, counsel or train upon the DCPC at a supposed international level

The answer can probably be found on less than one finger - which is the same digit offered to the EU and those who blithely perpetuate it via the Lib-Lab-Con.

:bulb:

Well done to you matey, for making the break and i do agree about how the jobs changed and even getting a job these days…so many hoops to jump through, years ago you could cold call a company and ask if there was anything going and 9 times out of 10 you got a fair answer…yes or no or when can you start mate ?, i took retirement as an option…no state pension …my own private pension…it was that or sign on or fiddle the sick…even though i cant do the job …docter wont pass me …so if i sign on i would be offered maybe Tesco’s collecting shopping trollys or stacking shelves…i didnt want to be bullied into some crap enviroment that i know i wouldnt last a day, so retirement it is, im not living the life of riley we get by, but if i get the all clear next week…it would cost me a few hundred quid just to get back into the job that i can do and have for donkeys years, this i dont agree with, the grandfather rites we get isnt worth a toss, so i think upto next year is my hiatus…but i dont think i will be bothering.

:grimacing:

Im a bit older than you…and your rite in a lot of things you said the monotany can get to you , im not chasing money just a few days a week would be great…i dont want any more 6 day weeks. good luck with your venture…shytalk…

FLIP:
Covered until 2019 for about two years now but as the company just keeps holding training days when the work’s quiet I’ve just received my card valid to 2024. I imagine it will either be lost or ragged by then mind you…

I was told that I couldn’t do anymore training until sept 2014, as that’s when my card officially kicks in. Did 21 hours worth on an ADR course, really hope I’ve not missed out

If your card is valid till Sept 2019, as it sounds, then I’m sorry to say you have missed out. Periodic training can only be credited to your record if it’s done within 5 years of the expiry date of your current cpc - whether that be a card or grandfather rights.

Pete

A driver I know asked me yesterday if I’d heard of the CPC. He only found out last week and he’s been driving for 20 years :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Wonder if i can cash mine in now I`m not in the UK anymore - open to offers lol

28 hours done, 21 for ADR and 7 hours on tachograph and drivers hours regulations.
Firm’s paying for our CPC so I can’t really complain, but have to agree that in it’s present form the DCPC is next to useless.
