You can try, but it upsets the lecturer.

When the WTD came in there were predictions that there would be a driver shortage. Oddly enough this was from the driver training schools. Needless to say the prediction never materialised.

No doubt this will produce a similar scenario.

We do it on Saturdays at time and half so they’d better not get rid of it :grimacing:

I can’t see your logic here. You say you can’t afford to lose a week’s money doing the DCPC but as you’re not going to do it, unless you have another line of work you can walk into, you stand to lose a great deal more than one week’s wage?

Methinks you are one of the many who claim that they’re not doing the DCPC… but will do anyway.

as usual though we all start worrying about things like this but it will all blow over come september, employers and the government will no doubt find a way out of the problem, they allways do

Listen people, we are professional drivers , we hold vocational licences, bottom line is this… If you want to continue driving professionally for commercial gain then you need CPC so ■■■■ it up and get it, otherwise stop ■■■■■■■■ and stop driving.
The choice is ours to make.
Other professions such as nurses have to pay a fee just to stay on a register never mind earning any money!!!

I’m not sure about that.

Let’s say you run a big firm with hundreds of drivers and you’ve paid for them all to do their DCPC. Considerable expense is all that, and as with all the money in haulage, it comes out of what the customer pays for his stuff to be moved from one place to another. Then it’s all quietly forgotten about and puts those hauliers who haven’t done anything about their drivers’ CPCs at an advantage. Would you not be screaming blue murder? I would…

I am lucky ,just finished after 50years on the road I go back to log sheets it has to be said every one has known what was coming with this new licence they have had plenty of time to do the 35 hrs and spread the cost of the payments I had one occasion when I had to pay for my first ADR cert it was pay up or off Tankers luckily people paid for me United paid for me and I was on Agency for them was offered a job but was happy as I was,it’s ok acting the martyr by throwing in your licence but the only one to suffer are yourselves there is nothing else out there I was born to trucking when I was born I backed out ,us old guys to us it was a way of life these days it’s just a job in my day (only finished at 70 years of age) there was family firms genuine haulage firms meat haulage etc people worked for the same firms for many years we grew up together ,now all gone now it’s the likes of Stobart or agency work no loyalty no one cares a toss about you so I am afraid it’s go with what the job dictates or leave.as the cry ,we should all stand together on what ever issue is concerned I first heard that cry in 1957 when a trailer boy on Alfrd Dexter the saying ,drivers are there own worst enemy is as true today as it ever was to me, what at one time was a wonderful job is now a complete mess there is no dought there is a few decent jobs about but few and far between phone cabs ,digi cards trackers you can stick them good luck guys the best of the job is well gone

AND BREATH :open_mouth:

I had my DCPC card when I started working for the company I work for just now, but they sent me on the DCPC courses anyway, I learned a lot, but I did wonder how much of what I was being taught was law and how much was company policy.

That Paul fella would be a cracker to sit next to on a D CPC day, oh wait he’s unlikely to do it… ■■■■ shame :unamused:

Yes it’s a pain but seriously just get it done or quietly move over and let the man behind with a DQC through. How much warning did he want.

dantruckman:
Come this September my clean licence and 16 years of class 1 experience and knowledge will become useless overnight.

The reason im unable to complete this BULL [zb] course is money. As im an agency driver like most of us are and can not afford to pay for the DCPC and lose a weeks wage, im sure there will be many more thousands of drivers in the same postion.

The DSA and Transport minster need to think about this situation as the impact to business could be massive, as most firms use agency drivers to make up about 70% of there work force ie Tesco Asda DHL Wincanton ect. So when we cant go to work on the 10th of September big impact on them and there operation.

Also hows it going to look when 1000’s of us drivers are having to claim doll at a time when the Goverment is trying to get the country working.

They must think this trough and remember its only a directive and not EU LAW!!!

I know what most of you will say… there just flood the market with EU drivers in which case the rates would become even lower than they are.

How the hell have we let this happen to this once great job and industry of ours?

HGV Driving rip 10/09/2014

I notice you have shyed away from your own thread after opinions went against you- don’t worry that happens a lot.

To be fair the dCPC is quite expensive all in one go and you have left it a little late.

To be honest (and perhaps a little unfair)… MY god man is your ■■■■■■ jealous of the crap that comes out your fingers, we have had plenty of warning and to do 7 hours a month is not a big stretch. In fact the dCPC was designed to refresh those with old HGV licences who think they know it all (16years is nothing).

One good thing about the dCPC is it going to weed out those that treat their HGV licence as a right rather than a priveledge.
The more one handed youtube viewers the better, more work for me.

Edit: I should add thats its possible to walk out of a dCPC course with less knowledge than you went in with but if the EU says bend over I touch my toes and act daft because no amount of whimpering or youtube videos is going to change anything- years of union back downs will support me on this.

The legal implications of this going away, and the amount of money invested by drivers and companies alike to gain the DCPC card means that this is here to stay. I agree it’s another way of screwing money from an already flailing industry but that has never stopped laws being implemented before!

One to avoid in a RDC waiting room I think
Just crack on and get it done got to better than no work

Juddian:
I wonder if dole will apply, somehow i doubt it.

Somehow I think your right, you will be deemed to have made yourself “voluntarily unemployed” by not doing the course and therefore will be sanctioned for upto 6 months.

It might be different if you had say done 4 out of the 5 but not for doing none.

The DCPC basically comes down to a total £350-400, and one Saturday or Sunday per year. Not the end of the world really.

A fair & valid point Sir!!!

same point I made earlier with the added bonus of the ILA funding paying for it.

£50 per year for dcpc if you shop around + time and fuel of course
