Doomsday September 10th 2014!

Come this September my clean licence and 16 years of class 1 experience and knowledge will become useless overnight.

The reason im unable to complete this BULL [zb] course is money. As im an agency driver like most of us are and can not afford to pay for the DCPC and lose a weeks wage, im sure there will be many more thousands of drivers in the same postion.

The DSA and Transport minster need to think about this situation as the impact to business could be massive, as most firms use agency drivers to make up about 70% of there work force ie Tesco Asda DHL Wincanton ect. So when we cant go to work on the 10th of September big impact on them and there operation.

Also hows it going to look when 1000’s of us drivers are having to claim doll at a time when the Goverment is trying to get the country working.

They must think this trough and remember its only a directive and not EU LAW!!!

I know what most of you will say… there just flood the market with EU drivers in which case the rates would become even lower than they are.

How the hell have we let this happen to this once great job and industry of ours?

HGV Driving rip 10/09/2014

Its been on the cards for a long time now, not many people that hard up they couldn’t have slipped in the odd module every 3 or 4 months over the last 2 years.

Ignoring it blinkered style was only ever going to cost one person, the unqualified driver, who won’t be getting any more work come September until they’ve sat the course.

I wonder if dole will apply, somehow i doubt it.

Im sure there change there minds once they realize just how many have not done this course and I will sit there and laugh in every mugs face who paid for there course and let the side down by doing so, no [zb] back bone truckers these days.

Nice notion …but due to this countrys ‘proud’ record of enforcing directives or law,you would get better odds at the bookies,on Elvis Presley ,riding shergar at the grand national

Best of luck with that one.

Nice attitude, enjoy your extended rest period from Sept.

You can afford 50-100 quid every few months??

Mate come on now. You need to seriously look at the noise you’re making over you CPC and bite the bullet and get it done.

One course a month for 5 months ain’t the end of the world.

why would you lose work time? - you would lose rest/relax time

If you did 7 hours on your day off then it counts as rest for the regs

You would end up losing about £300 I reckon

So, face them down.
If you’re sure of it’s illegality get a lawyer who specialises in EU law and go to court over this and see what they say.

The passenger transport game have had DCPC since last Sept.A few older guys packed in the job but there is no massive shortage of drivers as a result. My wages have not gone through the roof either.I imagine that haulage will be the same, drivers will have to knuckle down and become qualified or lose out to the flip flops etc.

I feel for you mate but it’s hardly been sprung on you has it

DREAMER !!!

Whether you like it or hate it, its law, so without it you lose the right to drive trucks, its a sad time and there are many who would agree with you, but not to the extent they lose their lively hood. As stated you could do it bit by bit, and only lose a few hundred, instead of a few thousand, as for unemployment benefit, that wont be forth coming, because you would in effect be putting yourself out of work. I was fortunate enough to have done the course and had it paid for by the company i was with, otherwise i am sure i would have had second thoughts, as without it you cant earn, and also tailor in the fact of what else you can do to earn a living, if you have another trade its quite easy to take the action you are taking, but without it you are up the creek without a paddle.

You can afford ■■■■ so quit and use money for dcpc you will not win

Glad I never went self employed! The money must be rubbish if you cannot afford a few hundred quid.
I agree it is a farce but you will not beat them unfortunately. The only loser will be you.Swallow your pride and do it.I did.

Oh right, did that video go down the ‘I can’t afford it’ route? I stop watching his drivel after a minute or so. I fully agree, I you can afford to smoke etc…

I don’t understand how anybody can’t afford it yet can afford to stop working come September?

A lot depends on what skill sets you have other than driving?

HGV driver typical wage range is £400 to £600 week depending on work type and hours. Unskilled general operative typically £240 to £260 week. Difference after tax means a full weeks dcpc course will typically pay for itself in less than a month.

A few older drivers in their sixties have decided to call it a day as the dcpc is one step too far for them now. Can’t say I blame them, but you really need to do the figures before taking such a dramatic plunge.

Yeah mate, I’m sure they will… :unamused: :unamused:

I thought it was gunna be another end of the world thread, something worth reading through not a load of CPC nonsense

We had the same objectors when the requirement for an HGV licence was introduced in the 60’s (Or was it 50’s)
Some years before that even a driving test was not required to drive any vehicle, and as for medicals you just had to tick a box!
So lets take a few steps back, scrap the driving test, HGV licence, medicals etc. Then see what the roads are like! Of course back then the roads were all cobbled and motorways/dual carriageways did not exist…
Things change, they have to - deal with it!
