ive lost count of the amount of drivers saying they will not take the dcpc and will stop driving in september I seriously hope many do as ive taken the dcpc and with a lot less drivers around hourly rates will go up which would benefit me .Reality is that most drivers cannot afford to give up driving and they know it but still spout on about hanging up their keys come " Domesday"
Am on agency, completed my DCPC last July every other Saturday over 10 weeks.
Paid £43.00 a session well worth it didn’t learn much as the person running the CPC claimed she cannot teach experienced drivers anything but some how under the directive have complete the 7 hours attendance a session.
Am averaging £500 a week basic maths:
500 x 10 = 5000
43 x 5 = 215
Anyone who says the governments gonna do away with DCPC needs to re-think. If the government decide to do away with they have to refund millions pounds to those who have completed I’d want my £215 back and I assume all the co’s, drivers would like their money back and training centre’s who paid £1500 registration fees with want their money back. I can’t see the logic in drivers who say they don’t and won’t do DCPC, for 1 weeks wages (maximum) over a number of months drivers are willing to loose their jobs.
And for those who think going on dole to ask Jobcentre Plus will pay for them imo they will have to wait six months out of work
before Jobcentre might pay six months outta work.

Dream on driver rates won’t improve no more than pigs will fly.
The Dcpc is just a way of ripping off more money from drivers nothing will change in transport until the drivers of this country grow some balls and stand up to the government like the French do.
There will always be a driver out there to work for peanuts. IMHO
I’m a self employed agency driver and i’ve done it and got the card.
You don’t have to take a week off you can do saturday/sunday/whatever day of the week you’re off.
If someone can’t won’t do it’s their own problem as that’s the fact about being self employed, no one will pay for it but you can put it against your tax.
people who won’t do it just give me more better paid jobs.
I am finishing in August, a transit connect has my name on it and I am looking forward to it, I am self employed and have seen the changes gradually creep in over the years, from log books to tacho and one test for everything to multiple tests and theories and now the DCPC, in a few years they will invent something else to con money out of experienced drivers and all the time the money will get lower and lower until it will be min wage for a class 1 driver, it has only been the draw of driving a big truck that gets people to come into this industry, it’s something that anyone can learn to do from any walk of life and that’s why the monies crap, the companies I contract to have said that they won’t replace the jobs I was doing with another haulier but simply tighten their operation to cover what I did. Simple fact is there will be no shortage of drivers come September or anytime soon.
Yes, as it is its a pointless PITA
Yes, its here to stay
BUT once you’ve got the initial lot done, after September you can do one module a year to keep you right.

Correct…but will people do that on the whole? Or will some/most wait until last minute.com like this time■■? I suspect the latter. Why not just do it? You never know - you just might learn something or meet some interesting people - some fella on one of my sessions even got a job from a contact he made on the day!! Many industries have to re-train or do refresher training, we’ve got off lightly over the years. Think of the young drivers entering the industry (albeit at a trickle rather than a flood) - it can cost them £3,500+ just to get into a Class 1 & then they’ve still got to start with their 35 hours Periodic Training - God help them!!!
You get a lovely pink DSA certificate when you do your initial CPC. Oh and if you are Scottish (not sure if this is done in England) you can apply for an ILA every year up to the value of £200 towards employment training. Therefore you don’t even need to pay for your CPC, as the tax you pay has already covered the funding. JOB DONE, quit moaning about it anyway, I had to pay around £350 for my initial CPC and I had actual tests to sit!
Right, so I learn NOTHING when I did my dCPC back in 2010, which has me covered until 2019, BUT I can do my next 35hrs after Sept.
NOTHING has changed since I did my last 1, so if I do my next one in say October, I’ll learn NOTHING again.
And, that is the problem in my opinion.
If you just had to do a refresher if there was any changes, then fine, but this is a joke tbh.

I do love these armchair lawyers. Seems to be a lot of them driving trucks. You’re not doing your case much good by sitting there drinking and smoking…
Ive just booked my last 2 courses for April and yes i used my ILA tokens so it wont cost me a penny

Good show, so it’s now a [zb] formality you need to go through once a year to keep on trucking. I don’t see what the hassle is. Ok some of you might feel impeded by it after all I agree you are learning nothing new but every trade has to do it. Look at the cscs, EPIC etc all BS imo, commonsense is what kept people alive all these years not bits of paper. However if you want to keep working regardless of your profession you need to move with the times and changes. Oh with reference to my last post of paying for and sitting test to gain my CPC, this only allows me to drive commercially. As a new driver I need to go through the tooth and nail fight to land a job. Most of you guy get to keep your job by completing you CPC and you’ve had long enough to do it. I personally hope you guys don’t do it (no disrespect intended here) but it might make it easier for the new guys to get a decent job as you refused to keep up with the times.

Good Luck with that Danny! Everyone has had to do the 2years experience bit at some point!
No matter which way you swing it,the Dcpc is paying to work every five years along with the medical from age 45,Epic etc
Every company wants a seasoned experienced driver unless your an east euro bod! Then it’s about cost!!! Funny that isn’t it?

I’ve done alright, I have been working on and off this month on 8 leg tippers through an agency and I had a very promising interview this morning for a multi drop job running north and south from the central belt of sunny Scotland £25,000 pa. I’m not going to turn my nose up at it but I do love driving the tippers.
As ever the DCPC raises more questions than answers .This day and age with so many vehicles on the road there must be standards on both sides or any Tom,■■■■ & Oleg could put themselves out there unaware of the law we all must (try?) to adhere to. Generally all professions carry their own codes of practice and the people who operate within them will usually have some sort of accreditation to back up their skills . These days just to be in possession of your license is not suffice to employers as the onus is on us , the driving professionals, to be adequately informed of the changes being made while earning our livelihood . For whatever reason drivers dont go for it , thats their choice . As been said the financial constraints of low paid and agency drivers are preventing some people from obtaining their DCPC but with any job there must be some input by the person supplying the labour .

Hi dantruckman,
I’m not sure where you get this “its only a directive and not EU LAW!!!” bit from.
Possibly, you might not quite know what a Directive is…

It’s a nice thought but it’s not going to happen.
No offence intended mate but you’d do well not to take these Youtube lawyers too seriously

Hi tachograph,
I’ve seen that YouTube video before, and I think the guy’s whole theory is built on an initial incorrect premise.
Not a very good effort at all.
I have to say that Luke’s earlier comment about armchair lawyers is spot-on IMHO.
Well I’m not doing it, never had any intention of doing it, especially in its current form. Nothing to do with paying for it, companies I’ve worked for in the last few years would have paid. Just the thought of being stuck in a class for 35 hrs, time I’ll never get back, fills me with dread. Luckily for me it coincides with me turning 60 the following April, and my last mortgage payment due in September this year so, for me, it’s hardly doomsday, more like wayhay.
I keep seeing some of you saying the pay will go up as their won’t be as many drivers, not another driver shortage surely, and I really hope it does, but I cannot see it happening. It’s not as if you can do more than one drivers job at a time is it. I can see an influx of our European colleagues coming to take up the slack though.
