Do you enjoy driving for a living?

driving yes , paper work no

25 years in the industry and I still prefer driving to anything else.

Done management, office work, recruitment, FLT and warehouse work, factory work; none of them beat going out of the gate, ending up somewhere you’ve never been before, and getting paid for doing it.

Evening Folks,
I do driving part time and i think its a rubbish job. I do it to get a bit extra money and would never ever do it full time

maybe if you had chosen a career with enough money to feed a family you wouldnt have had to demean yourself

I thought being a fireman would give me enough money…i was wrong!

is £30000 a year not enough for you . plus all the partime jobs you have . p.s. could you give me a quate on landscaping my back garden

I wish i was on £30k a year! My part-time work is truck driving…but i can always turn my hand to landscape gardening!!! :unamused:

I wasn’t going to join this because I only drive part time but unlike smokinbarrels I enjoy it.

Sometimes the sun is shining, I’ve got a nice long run and good tunes on the radio and I can’t believe I’m getting paid for this.

Sometimes I’m struggling with airlines in the rain on a cold night with 3 drops (my idea of multi drop) all for poxy little places in the valleys and wonder why I’m doing this…but by the time I’m a mile down the road I remember and the silly grin is restored.

I’d happily go full time if I could find a permanent job paying sensible money (don’t mind working longer hours for less than I’m on now but has to pay the mortgage and feed the kids!). There’s plenty of temporary stuff round here but I can’t risk that. Also, being on 3 months notice can be a problem for all but the most patient employer!

yes i do i find it a real easy job but i dislike all this retraining stuff that is about to start soon ie nvq cpc people are trying to make out its a space shottle were flying

3.5 years doing the same night trunk and I still enjoy it though I’m probably easily pleased after 24 years as a musician/teacher. I’ve always enjoyed driving to the point of being involved with the IAM for over 10 years, so when the chance came to drive heavies I took it and have never regreted it. If I worked days I might be able to fit in some playing work as well (£350+ for 6 3 hour calls), but day work is not always predictable, so that could become a problem. I currently work from 7p.m. and get back to the yard between 3 and 3.30 a.m. - drive to hub, open curtains, tip, load, close curtains and drive home. Glorified chauffer  Take my mp3 player and listen to whatever I fancy. Couldn’t earn what I do for such an easy job doing anything else.

It’s a ■■■■ easy job and there’s good money to be had if you get off your arse and go look for it. That said, you’ve got to know your “limitations” and figure out what kind of work you like and what work you don’t like.

I won’t touch anything with hassle, heavy lifting or getting mucky involved, therefore I won’t touch cage work, store deliveries, hand ball, flats, steel, roping & sheeting or plant.

That leaves palletised works (curtains mainly), boxes, reefers and tanks, and that’s all clean easy work with no hassle other than maybe a pump truck. As you’re getting paid the same money for whichever you do, it’s a no brainer to me to go for the easiest work.

I’m quite a fan of fridge work personally  .

I love my job and wouldn’t change anything about it and that includes my pay.

well, i left driving for a couple of years and ended up doing factory work. spent all night “clock watching”.

cannot beat driving for time flying by and i do enjoy it when i’m in a job where i’m not on the limiter constantly…

i really quite like driving trucks, even though it’s not what i ever saw myself doing. Just kinda fell into this line of work by chance

but i HATE working for an agency. Sick to the back teeth of getting dogged around like i’m sub-human. Wish i could find a full time job :frowning:

28 years class1 in sept this year, have been paid for driving lorries which I love, doing ■■■■ all some times, working knackers off other times. had some great laughs and made great mates also seen a lot of things.

I did 6 months as the driver/warehouse in a factory a few years back, there was a buzzer what told you when to stop and go, they talked about eastenders and other suchlike ■■■■■■ it scarred me for life!

scania245:
no i dont like the job as im tired of meeting new generation drivers .and there

i wont do that attitude

Amen to that brother :smiling_imp:

I,ve been involved in transport all my working life and like every job it has its ups and downs. but I cant think of any other job I would like to do.
