mazz: I remember when it rained water used to drip from the interior lights on mine … never did get it sorted & curtains only covered top bunk No stopping 270 ■■■■■■■ -used to pull like a train
That was an easy fix. Remove the 2 plastic air vents above windscreen, make up 2 blanking plates, fit with sealer, re-fit grills…Job done. Sorry it’s a bit late now…
Is that all it was? & to think the fitters even sealed the headboard with some black gunk stuff -the same fitters that could never touch the electrics on trannies …Glad to see i weren’t the only one with the problem
I found that blanking the vents had no effect, nor did pouring resin on the roof to find any leak.
Eventually we found that in the air vents there was a drain tube that ran down the inside of the windscreen pillar and into the wheel arches. Pressure from over the wheels forced rain back up these tubes so that you could have a shower whilst running!
These two were owned by a couple of mates who ran on round timber with me, The old P reg caught pigeons and was a regular on the Turkish and Greek job. It fluctuated between a 6x2 and a 4x2 for most of its long life

Thanks for that Andrew. Good to see the old girl went to a good home. Your spot on with all those details, we were from Sapcote in Leics. FJU was the one my dad drove so it would be high specced. Thats my dad, Hughie, in the picture. It was possibly the first transcon in the uk to have no glass around the bunk, my dad had ordered it from Ford with the windows blocked off but when it turned up they’d put glass in, so Paynes of Hinckley took all the glass out and filled up the holes themselves.
P.s Do you know what happened to it after J&M finished with it ? And is there any more pics of it ? Regards Nick Hill
All four of them together, FJU is the one with the door open. The one to the right is RUT 734 R Dads very first Transcon and also his very first brand new truck. I’ll have to get the photo’s of RUT off him, when it was brand new, to put on here. Nick.
The two Transcons I owned NME7R / VAY707S I operated NME abroad all the time and VAY was on Ferrymasters and Hazelwoods Pickles all the time and then replaced with a F10,
They were both 350 ■■■■■■■■ and neither gave any problems at all, just heavy, thirsty, and cold to sleep in, but went like nothing on this planet loaded or empty.
