Did you know..?

i saw something in the back of one of the national newspapers today,it was a couple of days old so i ripped it out and you can read it below, this is word for word from the article… :sunglasses:

“A sharp rise in demand for drivers could be a sign that the UK economy is on the mend.During the summer, figures from sector skills council, skills for logistics showed the number of vacancies for LGV drivers had risen by 180% compared with the same time last year.
While this is welcome news for the transport industry, the challenge for employers will be finding enough new drivers to fill the jobs.Shortages have been a feature of the sector for years, largely because not enough people have come in to replace drivers who are retiring. That could be about to change as a number of measures have been introduced to encourage more young people to choose a driving career.
The minimum age for holding an LGV licence has been lowered to 18 from 21 and there are more opportunities for on-the-job training through apprentices. These equip drivers with the skills they need to handle lorries and trucks weighing over 7.5tonnes.
They also provide valuable experience of working in transport, with trainees learning how to plan delivery routes and keep detailed records and supervising the loading and unloading of goods.
An advanced apprenticeship in driving goods vehicles can include more specialist training on things like the transport of hazardous materials. With the festive season approaching, qualified LGV drivers looking for flexible work opportunities will find plenty of temporary and short contract driving jobs in all parts of the country.
These offer good rates of pay and working conditions and hours that fit in with leisure time and family life.”

Some of them have difficulty keeping a Corsa on the road, what chance would they have with an LGV?

Well, that’s not my experience, everybody I know is getting laid off left, right and centre.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha gasp bwahahahahahahahaha!!!

through the rules of supply and demand a shortage of drivers means that blue chip companies will fight for my services offering the type of wages rooney can only dream of.

Article sounds good. Sign me up.

What colour is the sky on that planet?

and we all lived happily ever after! :unamused:

I wouldn’t have thought it would be much of a challenge to find drivers, there’s enough European Union Immigrants wandering around the place.

Apparantly these jobs are in a wonderful town called “Jepherdy”(sp)

Pmsl, I think I’ll do my hgv licenses then! I’ll never be out of work again and I’ll earn a fortune!!

Did you see the thing in the paper the other day; apparently, when they thought the world was flat they were actually right!! So careful not to fall off I’f you go abroad… :grimacing:

well here is an update,i decided to click through to the apprenticeship website and had a look at the vacancies and lo and behold there was one for a LGV driver with a company in huddersfield called lynda’s transport, the training provider is hargreaves, anyway i applied for it,and bearing in mind i have most of the class 2 stuff done(just need to do the main training and test) and ive been driving for years so i have driving experience, anyway it came back that i was unsuccessful,so i rang to find out why and guess what…the government does not provide funding to anyone over the age of 25 yrs old… :unamused: so this means i do not qualify, however this means that only 18 to 25 yr olds can get it but then not really any haulage company will touch them because they are under 25… what a complete and utter farce, they say the industry needs drivers but are only prepared to help young inexperienced drivers who wont get employment if and when they do pass… :unamused:

So this is what the Dcpc will be funding!
