Dear Santa, please do NOT bring me this

098Joe:
Apparently the steering wheel is that big so that the wheels can still be turned in the event of power assistance failing.

I think you will find the size is due to the design of the instrument cluster, if the wheel was any smaller you wouldnt be able to see the clocks through it

At the end of the day for what moaster wants a motor for [tramping]theres no contest between a medium cab man or his megaspace merc,no wonder he doesnt fancy one

Whats the difference between the narrow version compared to the normal one?

It’s narrower

a place i do shifts for has MAN’s…they are alright but the steering wheel is too big and they are hesitant when moving off !!

Apparently the steering wheel is that big so that the wheels can still be turned in the event of power assistance failing.

I’ve been dragged by a loading shovel in a dead MAN and I confirm that the massive steering wheel does ■■■■ all.

So much for that theory then! Although I am not convinced by the other answer.

What’s wrong with the large steering wheel? If a bit of trim falls off, throw it away. I did, that MAN I drove was missing the cup holder, centre draw, and a piece of plastic off the seat…It all went in the tipper. I don’t know what MAN thought though when it’s contract lease ended.

you should be thankful they are giving you a man, after all they could give you an axor or heaven forbid an iveco.

I read that quite a few times before I accepted it wasn’t rude

oh dear for the days when u were classed as lucky to have cab heater that worked /air con non existent /numerous breakdowns en route to some european /non european delight. no cell phone no tv/dvd/ no microwave . and the guys used to go into a truckstop for a meal few beers and talk to eachother , and most long haul guys enjoyed there job .

+1

When the LF first came out, the magazines said that the cab was made by Renault and was the same as on the Midlum (which when I drove it, turned out to be vastly inferior). However, Renault used to use that for the Premium and big Midlum, but have now developed a new cab for its truck ranges, so it makes sense that they could have sold the rights to Paccar.

Renault trucks are basically a Volvo chassis with Volvo driveline, with a Renault cab…

Is the cab even Renault? I was told it was made by Paccar in the States.

The DAF LF /RENAULT MIDLUM cab is a RENAULT cab that DAF use and also VOLVO

yes we would all love mega super flat floor 600bhp auto.manual trucks

Good lord, not me! 600 is a bit low

Make the most of it mate, nearly 2 yr old now isn’t she? Gotta be due a Scanny 500 again soon

Amazes me how many people think a two year old truck is due for replacement! To put it in perspective my previous truck is still on the fleet four and a half years later so I doubt I’ll be swapping anytime soon!

I don’t know what some so called drivers expect nowadays even just 20yrs ago virtually all cabs were narrow and the drivers were out all week in many cases, what is the difference in width 6". I had at least five bosses over the years who if you had complained especially about new motors would simply have said there is the keys and there is the gate the choice is yours. Time some of you come back down to earth you are lucky to have employment. Eddie.

Yeah you are right Eddie, every day I thank my lucky stars that they picked me to work for them. Sometimes I’m so grateful that I actually don’t book my wages for the day.

Your wasting your time Norb - Some people can’t accept DAF use a Renault cab :unamused:

Just because the trucks are far better these days it doesn’t mean the drivers are any different, I remember some 20 years ago a place where some drivers were getting all stressed because they had a year old F cabs and other driver had got the new FH. I also seem to recall that the F cabs where Globetrotters and the FH’s were low roof ones, so I think I would have kept the F cab, mind you I had a G290 and I was tramping on a 5 nights away job.
And the place we worked some drivers would be straight in the office if they got wind of a new truck on the fleet.

I know …Even if you sit inside you can still see how much is still Renault, and even under the grill is Renault, wether items like wiper inkage is cheaper from Renault or Daf would be interesting to know

I didn’t think that at all! I was in fact referring to the fact that you had your previous truck for about two years, I asked as after watching all 119 of your Vlogs I was genuinely interested, I think by your curt reply you thought I was having a dig? Not so… Oh well, Onward!
