Dear Santa, please do NOT bring me this

Think I read somewhere MAN will be getting Scania gearboxes next year

Now Scania is controlled by VW I imagine lots will be shared in time

Renault trucks are basically a Volvo chassis with Volvo driveline, with a Renault cab…

yoyo5:
Absolutely nothing wrong with the MAN, comfortable, good engine, excellent gearbox( if you know how to use it,) all the creature comforts, good fuel economy ( again if you know how to drive it ). And to all the cheap and nasty comments you are talking Sh*T…

+1
I’d rather drive them than the zb axors they use for Carlsberg…

sweeper1gg:
the worst trucks on the road the scania horrible truck.

Sounds like you’ve never had the pleasure of driving an axor then:lol:

Is the cab even Renault? I was told it was made by Paccar in the States.

One of the first trucks I drove was a man 18t fridge,it was a m plate and was 5 years old when I first drove it…well it was solid, well built and comfortable, really was a good motor.
I then never drove a man for 5-6 years and once got the keys to a man tga Xxl cab so I was quite pleased,it was a good looking motor, but once I started driving it well it goes down as the worst truck iv ever had…electrics were a nightmare the interior looked like they had got the cheapest materials they could, the gear box was awful and the whole thing just shook it’s self to bits after two years.
Now I look after my trucks OCD style but that motor after two years was knackerd and luckily iv never had one since.

I saw an 03 reg 8wheeler earlier and it looks in good condition. The old models looked tougher, which could be said of many makes of vehicle.

Thats sounds like a bit of a myth to me.

having driven a few of the man’s dont think they are that bad. mind you having started out in an iveco turbostar and being away all week i can manage to find places for my stuff in most vehicles if i needed to.

think too many on here act like spoilt little children and have no idea what is classed as acceptable vs being spoilt.

yes we would all love mega super flat floor 600bhp auto.manual trucks

a place i do shifts for has MAN’s…they are alright but the steering wheel is too big and they are hesitant when moving off !!

I don’t know where they are built, but the Midlum shared the same cab as the Volvo FL and DAF LF, so it could be a PACCAR/Leyland design.

Apparently the steering wheel is that big so that the wheels can still be turned in the event of power assistance failing.

If they’re for that Norbert Duckstrangler outfit maybe they’l ship them to the USA. Norbert just bought a trucking firm called Jacobson in Iowa. Be fun to see the look on the Yank drivers faces when they’re told to give up their ’ hoods ’ for these.

The one I drove was like a dustbin lid.

Apart from the bodybuilding, there’s no metal cutting done at Layland at all: everything arrives pre-drilled and gets bolted togther. Even the LF chassis rails come from ZF in Germany ready to bolt together. They call it an assembly plant rather than a factory.

DAF LF uses the Renault Midlum cab, which arrives at Leyland from France already painted and trimmed to DAf specification. It just gets plugged in and bolted on.

The same cabs pass through Leyland where they are added to a kit of parts that gets exported to a Paccar factory in Mexico, where they are assembled as Peterbilts or Kenworths.

If Volvo Group is sourcing the cabs for the bigger Renaults from North America, then I’d have thought they would come from a Volvo Group (either Volvo Trucks of North America or Mack) facility, rather than a Paccar one.

haha i actually laughed out loud when i read that.

As has been said we all like different things, good job really as it would be boring if we didn’t.

It was about 10 year since I last drove an MAN and I didn’t think they were too bad then, if a bit cheap on the fit an finish, door cards kept falling off the one we had. But this year I was lent a nearly new TGX to go to Italy, I didn’t think the gearbox was that good, but I’m used to Ishift and Optidrive, the engine brake wasn’t as good as the VEB, and I don’t think it was as comfortable, seat or bunk, but it was quiet and spacious and I’m sure you could get used to the other bits. So I’d say it wouldn’t be my first choice of truck if I had the choice, but I also wouldn’t throw my toys out of the pram if I had to drive one again.

The small Renault is also a DAF LF and Volvo FL cab, so possible…
