If you feel so bad about it then stand up for yourself and point blank refuse to drive one, or jack and work somewhere else!
Or you could just stop marding about it and just get on with it and drive a truck like you’re paid to do! It’s brand new and does the job the same job as your other one did.
Hey Maoster, try to hang back till the snows gone, you can stuck in half an inch of the stuff on a flat road in one of those, especially if its got the standard crap autochronic.
Anyone had a read of the MAN magazine to be found in drivers waiting rooms at dealers?, go on you have to its a howler, couple of blokes looking at me suspiciously today when i was chuckling over some of the fawning quotes, from drivers too allegedly, Jesus wept.
They’re ok as a motor, reasonably reliable for the first three years, quiet and fairly comfortable, not particularly economical if they have to do a bit of work, and don’t touch anything other than with your fingertips or it’ll break off, and for goodness sake don’t buy one out of warranty as an OD, it’ll break you.
I got a TGS 26.360 about 1 month ago… I exchanged from a mercedes axor 1824 (9 YR old),
Mostly the MANN is good, but its built like a cheap toy from china, my lights keep blowing every time I have a new set put in (rear width markers) the MANN dealership dont know why…
The blind spot behind the mirrors is bad, the handbrake is in a ■■■■ position, and my orange roof beacon fell off the roof the other day… other than that the heated seats are amazing… the side window blowers (in door) are top stuff and she pulls like a ox up the steepest of hills fully loaded. unlike my merc. oh the gearbox is awful for me as I have an ex auto converted into a manual stupid company…
I tramp in a GTX (so I know from experience ), and can say ,I like mine for its comfort, seat and bed are right for me, unlike the over rated pile of tat that is the new MEGA SPACE or such, which I could not sleep in.
Has been reliable (4 years old), but it is true, it gets thirsty when pulling weight.
Mirror blind spot is an issue, but only if you are to lazy to compensate for it.
Throttle lag when pulling away from standing start is huge, but only fair, so as not to embarrass the blinged up V8 next to you. Throttle lag can make reversing embarrassing at times. (It’s my excuse and I stick with it… )
But to be fair, I dont think I would like to tramp in a narrow cab. Those few inches make all the difference. Or so I’m told…
Just to clarify I drove an MAN before the Merc and I loved it, probably the most comfortable drivers seat and bottom bunk I’ve ever used, so my issue isn’t with the MAN per se, it’s the narrow cab version I don’t like. I tramp all week and there simply isn’t the space for the assorted crap that one accumulates.
Btw Juddian you’re right mate, bthey don’t like snow! Here’s my old one below. Although to be fair most artics would struggle here…

think any car would struggle there too
Whats the difference between the narrow version compared to the normal one?

Perhaps you have accumulated too much “crap”

width of the cab
I worked on MAN’s from 1987 to just recently, and as the years go by they seem to have been built down to a price. This is true I think of most premium manufacturers, VW’s are not as good as they used to be, but I would never buy anything other than a VW group product. As for the new Actros which I currently work on, and drive, I think it is where MAN was 14 years ago for comfort and design. The old Actros which I work on and also drive is out dated poorly designed trash in my opinion. After spending nearly a year working on the whole Mercedes product range, I’m shocked at how bad a product it actually is, without the new product I think their appeal would be seriously tailing off. I would still choose to have an MAN over the new Actros any day. Most of the MAN accelerator problems can be improved with regularly re calibrating the throttle pedal. As with any product good Dealer support is the key.
That last post is a prime example of how we all like different things for different reasons. I love the Merc and would never choose a MAN if I had the chance to. The MAN always has an air of cheap 1995 Nissan Micra to me when it comes to the interior. Not awful as such just incredibly boring.
oh dear for the days when u were classed as lucky to have cab heater that worked /air con non existent /numerous breakdowns en route to some european /non european delight. no cell phone no tv/dvd/ no microwave . and the guys used to go into a truckstop for a meal few beers and talk to eachother , and most long haul guys enjoyed there job .

45 of these bad boys have turned up at our yard over the last few days. It’s amazing how many drivers are avoiding the office like the plague! Management can’t quite understand why people aren’t willingley handing in the keys to their Actros mega space’s to drive a skinny cab MAN.
Best trucks on the road vw what more do you want don’t say a scania just a bit slow.

The MAN is the best and safest truck on the road in my opinion, i drive all sorts as im self employed the brakes exhaust brake everything works as it should and feels well under control fully loaded, not like the worst trucks on the road the scania horrible truck.
I like the driving position of MANs, the 8wheeler I drove was amazing off road, and comfortable. It was let down by it’s auto 'box (although the DX setting is spot on for tip driving). The interior started to fall to bits in places but it was a pretty good basic truck.
I like basic trucks, it gives me an excuse not to be OCD about cleaning them.

They are all made by man unless the Leyland factory is now fully robotic.

Surprised they havent gone with Renaults
They do normally, but they were having trouble getting hold of the new model Renaults hence ordering MANs and Mercs. I drove their 18-tonne Midlums briefly in the autumn; their controls are odd and their turning circle is awful. The Premiums don’t have the turning circle problem though. I was told that much of the driveline in the Midlum is actually sourced from Volvo; I do wish they’d use the Volvo gearshift as well, rather than that silly stalk.
Personally never driven an Actros, but have driven Axor artics and they’re OK. Not at all fond of Mercedes manual gearboxes, but most artics are automatic nowadays so it doesn’t matter. Got two days lined up of class 2 driving in a MAN TG-M I think, and the only thing I don’t like is the retractable cup-holder with a spring, which will squash any drink can you put in it. Rest of it’s OK.
