DAF 95 / Cummins engine

Didnt howards buy it?

ERF ECX:
Read the other say that ■■■■■■■ have produced a new engine the 13ltr Isz of which there are three fitted to Ginafs running in the Paris Dakar rally.
Maybe Daf will take these to replace the Paccarr Mx unit, would be great to see ■■■■■■■ make a comeback in the heavy market, let’s be honest they know how to make an engine look at the technology the Nte had way back in the 70’s 24valves, high pressure fuel system, all raved about today but tried and tested by ■■■■■■■ many moons ago.
To me the 14 ltr ■■■■■■■ was the best engine ever, you only have to talk to people who ran them, they,ll tell you the same legendary performance and durability.

Daf is owned by Paccar and makes the MX, so it is unlikely that they will offer the ISZ in Europe. According to BLB, that engine is assembled in China, so I guess it is aimed at the Asian and US markets. However, we can speculate that, if the ISZ had arrived 5 years ago, there would still be Fodens…

This old 95 was a yard shunter for Marshalls tail lift people , I think it ended up being exported . shame it was usable .

■■■■ shame that, exporting a nice little unit like that. She looks proper tidy. Bit of tlc and she’d be good to use

.

I’ve seen that many times, it’s good to see an old girl like that still earning a crust. Hopefully someone will look after it when she’s moved on. I’m just looking for something less desirable, purely to strip down for bits n bobs for mine. Everything is just so hard to get hold of. Most parts became obsolete in 2006 for 95/96 year pre xf’s. mines got the hydro static gear change and was a nightmare when a pipe burst. It’s sorted now and works like a dream but it does worry me if it ever goes wrong on the road

Here’s one with the 500 ■■■■■■■

It would still be a good usable lorry today .

Evening all,

Photo of me yesterday in front of a Ginaf ■■■■■■■ powered Dakar truck.

It’s fitted with the lx13 lump. Which I think is used in South America ? As the Dakar rally now goes through chile, Argentina etc might be a advet thing ?

I hail from that area Dan, but I can’t say it rings any bells. I’ll contact a mate of mine, he’s an independent DAF specialist, maybe he recognises it.

I thought they were a wonderful idea at the time until I discovered that they still had ZF 'boxes. It would have been a superb opportunity to match an excellent long-haul unit with a Fuller box to go with the ■■■■■■■■ They other problem, so drivers told me at the time, was that the 500 installation in the DAF 95 was a tad thirsty!

We are looking for a right hand drive model dead or alive .

Ah yes Dan! Now I remember you mentioning this a long while ago. You even provided this picture!

That’s Steve Greenwood a right pain to fit apparently but that wasn’t behind a ■■■■■■■ although I can imagine the gear linkage would not be easy to accommodate

They’re a bit thin on the ground mate, but have a look at wakkertrucks.nl, they sometimes have 95s for sale. Most trucks they sell come from Portugal so LHD I’m afraid.

Never understood why it wasn’t offered in 6x2 or 6x4 form, would have made more sense IMHO.

The other odd thing is that the less powerfull engines were available with the Fuller 'boxes, mate of mine used to work for a firm that ordered the last 95s with these 'boxes fitted, so why it wasn’t an option on the 500 beats me. Said firm was highly disappointed that the XF only came with the ZF 'box, it didn’t stop them ordering a whole batch of them.

I personally never had any problems with the ZF, quite liked it, best version was in the MAN F2000 with the slap-over bit. The “easy shift” or “comfort shift” in the first TGA worked quite good as well, pity they all dropped that in favour of those horrible AS-Tronics.
