DAF 95 / Cummins engine

I thought they were a wonderful idea at the time until I discovered that they still had ZF 'boxes. It would have been a superb opportunity to match an excellent long-haul unit with a Fuller box to go with the ■■■■■■■■ They other problem, so drivers told me at the time, was that the 500 installation in the DAF 95 was a tad thirsty!

Never understood why it wasn’t offered in 6x2 or 6x4 form, would have made more sense IMHO.

The other odd thing is that the less powerfull engines were available with the Fuller 'boxes, mate of mine used to work for a firm that ordered the last 95s with these 'boxes fitted, so why it wasn’t an option on the 500 beats me. Said firm was highly disappointed that the XF only came with the ZF 'box, it didn’t stop them ordering a whole batch of them.

I personally never had any problems with the ZF, quite liked it, best version was in the MAN F2000 with the slap-over bit. The “easy shift” or “comfort shift” in the first TGA worked quite good as well, pity they all dropped that in favour of those horrible AS-Tronics.

The only 95 I ever heard of with a Fuller was this example with an RT 11613 'box that Eric ‘Tip-Top’ posted a few years back:

As for ZF syncro boxes, they varied wildly. I always thought the installation in the 95XF was the best of them. Didn’t like Comfort-Shift and hated both Easi-shift and AS-Tronic.

The fuller and twin split were options on LHD models only. UK models had the ZF only. The 80 series had the twin split option.

That’s very useful information: thank you :sunglasses:

It’s a real turn off when I hear the air exhausting in these videos when the driver changes gear with the zf ,ruins the ■■■■■■■ sounds ,
