There will be no more fuel protests, no help from the public last few times, refineries can not be blocked because of law.I dont know why the big firms moan about the price of it they found the money for the silly wtd, the driver cpc just stick it on the bill,ho and while I am at it I hear some cities are to introduce euro 5 only zones lnstead of wingeing on about it put a surcharge on the rate to operate there, you dont get euro 5 for nowt…ha thats better

Makes perfect sense.
I hope Edie, Winco’s, Mari’s, et al follow suit.
why are you botherd you dont pay for the petrol anyway the company does
until the big bosses at the big companies get ■■■■■■ off nothing will happen and while ever the unions and labour have them in their pockets with false promises whats the point.
Anybody remember the “Boycott the pumps” campaign from some years ago, where people were encouraged to boycott a different pertol company one day every week. so for instance, week one boycott all BP on monday, week two boycott Esso on tuesday etc. Everybody can still fill thier tanks but each company will see a big drop in revenue once a week. did’t work last time because it, didn’t get the publicity and backing it needed.
You may as well give the local crack dealer your subscription to the RHA / FTA holiday club. He will do something to help you.
It doesn’t matter how many of you park up, refuse to deliver goods or block gates, at the end of the week, it will be you who is on the front page of the Sun or Mirror for the wrong reason. Something like truckers block major route and this little black orphan died because the ambulance could not get through.
The green lorries will keep rolling along with the big yellow ones. One has a fuel price recovery clause embedded in its contracts Another has a fuel subsidy generator between 4% and 5% so that if the diesel price goes up the logistics companies pass it straight on to the customers.
The large companies don’t care, the likes of Wincanton, DHL, Freightliner, etc. will survive, they use small contractors now because of the flexibility, which really means the owner driver, who is reluctant to refuse a delivery or try that little bit harder. The contractor can soon be replaced, just look at how many on this forum are thinking of buying a lorry simply because they cannot get a job.
That alone should suggest there are far too many trucks on the roads, the transport industry is oversubscribed. The government will be pleased if a few more fall by the wayside, they will continue to raise revenue by more stealth taxes. Dog insurance, smoking bans and fines and roadside fines by Globbys friends.
Like the fishermen who complain about the lack of fish, yet still send bigger and more trawlers out to catch them.
dont matter how many trucks you park up how slow you go where you dont go for fuel, someone will always drive a truck, the miners strike ffs there is a collection of truck photos with grilles over the windscreen on this site, and people talk about the trucks rather than wtf they were doing on the road during a strike at the pits.
morrisons tesco.s sainsburys and plenty of other hauliers are all on a go slow sticking to the limits, dont seem to annoy anybody too much,
boycott one petrol company ,no one will give a $%&*,we just have to go to the one who has put his price up on mon night ,because he knows tesco’s has been boycotted on tuesday
drivers there own worst enemy moaning about crap we have no control or say over,i along with everybody else have to do it as we have a car house t.v and everything else to pay for, thats how the system control’s you,
i cant afford not to work neither can anyone else because the moment you get out of your cab and say your not coming in one of your fellow drivers will get in.
blockade anyones refinery you will be dragged off and i dont think you will be running any wagons after that.
p.s it used to 2 pence on a gallon, till they realised there are 4.6 litres in a gallon or thereabouts thats how they shaft you,
it doesnt matter wot laws are in place with regards to protests this needs stopped now how much longer we gonna take this i mean im all for tax on fuel but this is taking the ■■■■ everything is rising except the cost of living wages are being cut hauliers arwe being payed off small businesses are going to the wall i say enough is enough
humdinger:
globby i’m not getting at you or calling you spineless…i agree with what you say about the whole fuel thing & not everyone sticking together…But my thought process, whether its wrong or right, is, doe’s the whole industry need to act as one ■■?..Think of the industry and all its hauliers as an 11 man football team, if say 3 of that 11 said sod it i can’t be arsed to play anymore after 20mins of the game what would happen ■■?..
They would sub the 3 that couldnt be arsed and put on 3 replacements…ie Wincanton would put 3 more motors on the job and the little guy would be ■■■■■■ off out the door for ever.
If the 3 that couldnt be arsed were Drogba (Wincantons) Lampard (Stobbies) and Anelka (DHL) then summit might get done and the other players might follow suit…but us little guys are like Southend United players mate no one gives a ■■■■ about us/them not being arsed .
I think this makes some sort of sense
Deepinvet:
the point of this rambling post is that yes we do pay alot of tax on our fuel but we are one of the best countries in the world, where else would you get free heart surgery or a host of any other free expensive medical treatments, and toll free roads…Oh nearlly forgot the best ARMY NAVY RAF in the world!!!
Right here, actually. And the Military here are the best peacekeepers in the world.
Anyway, think on this. Canada is vast. Canada has half the population of the UK. Everyone outside of the few major cities is totally dependant on their cars. Vehicles have to be left idling on the colder days to ensure that they don’t freeze solid.
And yet… Regular unleaded is about 88 cents per litre. At todays rate that is about 57p. Diesel is about 90 cpl. That is still considered expensive. Now consider that fuel tankers have to drive hundreds of miles to get to the fuel stations. Some of the journeys can be a full shift to reach and this ties up trucks for 2 days to deliver to a single station. It also costs more for them to actually cover the distance to the stations. Yet our fuel costs are half the UKs.
Factor in that there is only one toll road I can think of in Canada now and we don’t pay anywhere near as much road user fees anyway and you have to see that it is simply a con on the part of the government.
Britain was great, but it no longer is.
If you really want to hurt the likes of Shell, BP, Q8, Esso or Jet, its the rear gates that needs blocking, I dont think they make much profit on a litre of diesel or petrol, well not enough to affect them any way.
“Some of them probably need to change their tune if they don’t want to change [their relationship with US] this year. You cannot isolate yourselves [by expecting prices to remain the same].”
The above quote was taken from a site close to home. It came from the head of a transport company who operate with a lot of sub contractors.
Basically he had read what I had written earlier, and replied in his own words. “If our shareholders do not get lumpsucker caviar for breakfast, the sub contractor must work for less or be replaced.”
The only way to sort this is to bring the whole country to a complete standstill and i mean a complete standstill, and globby is right, the easiest and best way is to just park up for as long as it takes. There would need to be a serious marketing campaign though as you need to get the whole country on side, it would have to be made clear that it would be extremely tough for everyone with no supplys getting through but if we grit our teeth and stick it out the government would have absolutely no choice but to act. But also as globby has said we are a nation with no backbone and will always just roll over and take it up the tail pipes. I’ve experienced it many times in the workplace when issues arise over pay and conditions, redundancies etc etc and people are all for sticking together saying “yeah we should do this and that”, and then when you all have a meeting with the bosses people like me end up looking like a complete prick when you make a stand and then everyone else all of a sudden loses the power of speech and just stand there silent, but then as soon as the meeting is over they miraculously regain the power of speech and start [zb] moanin I simply just dont get it
dont moan about something if you’re not prepared to do anything about it
Rant over
Just got this email off a friend, similar to last years but with a difference.
Might work!
The price of oil is as low as it has been for a while, the oil companies have simply jacked their prices up and the labour government will not do anything as they rake in extra VAT for every increase, to help make up for the financial disaster that we are in, thanks to 10 yrs under Gordon Brown first as chancellor of the exchequer and then as unelected prime minister.
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it.
We are hitting 119.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 1.50 a litre. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don’t buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here’s the idea:
For the rest of this year DON’T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.
If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It’s really simple to do!
Now, don’t wimp out at this point… keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)… and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) … and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it… … THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That’s all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 90p a LITRE RANGE. It’s easy to make this happen. Just forward this email and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso.

I think this makes some sort of sense
it makes a hell of a lot of sense and is how the haulage game works nowadays is it not??
Again, no public support for the cause!
The trouble is that they don’t have anything to compare the cost with nor do they use the amount we do. The car driver can’t see a major difference in price from one station to the next nor see it spread over 400 litres in one shot.
They need the car and it is seen as an essential product, a bit like electricity and now the mobile phone. There is no other choice. Unlike booze or cigs which can be dropped.
It would be different if we had an amazing public transport service, but we don’t so they have to use the car.
They are more worried about mortgage repayments. It’s got to the stage (and the government know this) that’s just the way it is.
Bet you would find people are more worried about anti-social gangs on the street than they are about the cost of fuel.
WE`RE ALL DOOMED !!! The RHA and the FTA are not for drivers, these organisations are for businesses within the haulage industry. If they were to organise protests then they would be going against the members they represent.
The next thing is: we are all to blame, nobody wanted to go against maggie
when she took on the unions…so why didnt we form our own union…just for the transport industry…only then will we have some clout…in my opinion…we will never get a 100% joining rate…so we do have to sit back and let the government walk all over us…its whats been happening for years…just look around and see the conditions we have to work in…look at the places we have to park in…why do we allow service stations to extort money from us for parking and the lack lustre food they dish up…why do we allow RDCs to treat us the way they do, with few facilities, and no sitting in your cab to catch up on some hard earned rest..instead of sitting in fridges..or in some instances standing at the back of the trailer until you are tipped..why do we allow employers to exploit us, why even do we have to load/unload ourselves, with the amount of profit theyre making, they could enjoy johnny foreigner to do it for us, and allowing us to rest..why do all transport companies tell drivers to put the tacho on
rest/break when we`re loading/ unloading…its so we can clock up over 80 hours a week, and the company stays within the regulations…
i have had this argument many times, and often said that if i was self employed, you would have to pay me from the time i entered the premises, to the time i left…so why is it that we are treated this way…
my final say on this matter is the fact we are not paid what we are worth, we are the backbone to any countrys infrastructure, and we all know that without us the world will stop , but thats the way it is, and i believe thats the way it will stay.
truckyboy:
with the amount of profit theyre making
I would take issue with this bit, to be honest. I suspect even breaking even is hard going right now.
I heard, or saw, that car ownership in the UK has declined for the first time, or that car usage has, at least. I find that interesting in itself, but I can’t help but wonder if the Jags are still chauffering the idiots to Westminster…
At the end of the day, nobody seems to have the stones to get hold of anyone now, so things will continue to get worse and people will continue to gripe.

I don’t mind paying extra tax on the fuel, if it goes back to central government it will help get this FANTASTIC country of ours back off it’s knees…Industry changes, where I live they had little trains to move produce from the fields they don’t do that now, they don’t build ships in Newcastle anymore but they have 2 of the worlds finest Universaties producing future Engineers Drs etc, also in the North East they know have one of the best car plants in the world with Nissan, we also have Toyota and Honda.
This country isn’t broken or run down, our industries are slightly different to what they were 30 years ago. Around the time that Labour were in power in the 70s think iirc the dole que was about 3 million■■? with alot less people in this Island…Also the country was run by militant unions, Red Robbo ring any bells to some older people, the sleeping night shift at Fords, bin men on strike, Firemen on strike every Tom ■■■■ and Harry seemed to be on strike, the whole country was a mess, that was untill THATCHER got her claws into them, even the Russians were frightned of her!!!
She did alot of good things and alot of bad, not looking for a Lab Con debate here…But the point of this rambling post is that yes we do pay alot of tax on our fuel but we are one of the best countries in the world, where else would you get free heart surgery or a host of any other free expensive medical treatments, and toll free roads…Oh nearlly forgot the best ARMY NAVY RAF in the world!!!If you don,t like what the government are doing, then very soon you will have a choice to make a change, but if you don’t vote then don’t moan!!!
Then if you don’t like the outcome you are feely entitled to leave the country…But I,m sure you’ll come back, most do.Having been caught up in the French Blockades in the 80s and 90s, they seemed to work well…
I could take issue with much of this. Do you consider the government to be any less militant than Scargill?
Those engineers and Doctors will get their educations, qualify, have monstrous debt and will leave the UK to work. Nothing will fix what has gone wrong except a radical and complete change of practice and attitude. That is not likely to happen since the majority of people are ostrices. If you think I would come back to the mess that is now the UK, you are seriously misguided. I get the same medical care (only they treat you better), the same benefits and toll free roads. Hell, they even removed the toll from the Coquehalla pass after the road was paid off. Britain, as a country, is like the Austin Metro, only popular with those who know no better!

Well said, cant wait until wor lass and I head over to oz for good, this country goes from worse to worse…
Well there u go cost of fuel keeps rising and no one wants to do owt best time would be now with an election round the corner wot more do u want its time to act.
