Well there u go folks theres two scottish based haulier companies gone under crippled by the rising cost of fuel how many more has to go under before something is done.
hahah this thread makes me laugh
Nowt will happen unless it gets the backing of a major union within haulage, who promise to back all its members to the hilt with parking up or laying down on the M1 or whatever other hairbrained idea they have. Even then all thats going to happen is the big companies will rub their hands together as they are in a win win situation. If the idea worked, they get cheaper fuel, if it doesnt then they are likely to pick up extra work.
This country is not a democracy anymore due to the lack of options when voting, as they are all ■■■■■. The sooner people realise this the better.

SAFED training?
I can never undestand why Tony Woodley or Bob Monks dont do something about fuel taxation, they seem to be only interested in manufacturers and multi nationals. A lot of us pay they salaries but they are not interested

I’d guess that fuel taxation is fair as it affects everyone that uses it, quite how it would interest unions is beyond me. Is anyone daft enough to believe the line that if fuel was cheaper then a lot of hauliers would not of gone under? If the price of fuel is blamed for a failing buisness then there is something drastically wrong with the buisness plan, pricing structure or whatever.
I’d love to blame the government and taxes, but realistically the cost of fuel rising 82pence or somthing a litre to what £1.20 a litre can’t really be blamed on a few pence tax increase.
Even if a political party said we are going to take 10pence a litre off in tax tomorow, and reduce it to £1.10 a litre in a few months time would be back up at £1.20 a litre anyways but the country would have lost billions which would have to come from somewhere else, increased income tax, NI, services cut right back, taxes on everything else.
Don’t get my wrong i think its stupid for the government to adding to fuel duty when the prices are going through the roof, but lets face it the blame for this is on OPEC and the speculators pushing the price through the roof. Thats where action needs to be taken and its a global problem.
We are sitting at what $84 a barrel and prices are at £1.20 last time it was this high we were sitting at $150 a barrel, think the blame for the price increases needs to be placed with the oil companies. Since as i said at the start we havent had a 40pence increase in tax.
Just as a point of interest…
The govenment say that the price of fuel is due to the comparative exchange rate between the euro and the pound. I suggest they should prove this.
You see, the only Arabic country I know of that has ever traded in the euro is Iraq, and they no longer do so. It was only ever done as a slap in the face to Geo Bush and it worked a bit better than maybe Saddam thought it would. Now, as far as I know, the entire world trades oil in US dollars, not euros, so the exchange between the pound and the euro should not make a jot of difference. The cynic in me suggests this is a ploy to force the euro on the UK so you can pay even more into the EU coffers without ever seeing it happen.
The pound is, as far as I know, fairly high compared to the dollar, so surely things should be the other way round.
