If you want to abuse me, I’m totally cool with it, but please try a little harder :grimacing:

I can’t see when people are taking the ā– ā– ā– ā–

How ironic that is

I will, for just a moment, get back on topic and also give an answer to your accusation that I defend stupid driving by referring you back to my original post on the subject. The all important phrase ā€˜tongue in cheek’ was used. Below is a definition of that:-

Tongue-in-cheek is a phrase used as a figure of speech to imply that a statement or other production is humorously intended and it should not be taken at face value. The facial expression typically indicates that one is joking or making a mental effort. In the past, it may also have indicated contempt, but that is no longer common. By 1842, the phrase had acquired its contemporary meaning similar to ā€œtake what I am saying with a grain of salt,ā€ indicating that a statement was not meant to be taken seriously.

Doh :open_mouth:

Edited to correct a grammatical error, I don’t want any stones thrown at my greenhouse

i was following a container truck on the m3 when a car driver left it late to change lanes for the exit slip as usual these days, anyway he decides to run this car onto the hardshoulder with his trailer and puts him into the gravel,i have never in 30 years of driving trucks seen such dangerous driving, yes the car driver was in the wrong for leaving it late but is that any reason to try to kill somone?or causing a motorway pile up involving innocent drivers, anyway my truck is fitted with a camera which has recorded it all, would vosa prosecute if they saw it or should i send a copy to the owners of the truck,i know there will be some on here who say mind your own buisness but maybe you would change your mind if it was one of your family in the car,i really think the driver has a very serious anger managment problem and will cause someone serious injury if he is allowed to carry on driving hgv.s

Why ask for people opinions and then tell them they are wrong when they disagree with you?

Oh and I believe some people are still waiting for the video to be uploaded!!

Personally I don’t care who’s right or wrong, what I can’t stand is these self appointed, self righteous traffic police who should mind their own business and not go around reporting others when no actual accident occurred, it would be different if contact had happened and you witnessed it.

No, no, no, you don’t get it do you

That is the sensible approach, therefore it has no place on this thread

No they wouldn’t. Dangerous driving is for the police to charge someone with.

Hope that answers your question.

I can only go on what you say, i never seen it. But if the car has not got past the lorry then what are you expecting the lorry to do, brake for someone behind/alongside him? If thats the case then the car driver braking should see him able to get in behind the lorry? Its got to be safer than a lorry braking and or atlering his course on a slip road to let an approaching from behind motorist in? These avoidance actions have been responsible for many lorries turning over, where do you draw the line? How can a lorry be to blame for a driver that has left it to late to safely turn off? Let the car driver think of the children, they’re his responsability. If the lorry would of veered off or braked hard and had a mishap the car driver would of carried on.
I’m one of the ones who’d say ā€œmind your own businessā€ and also of the school of thought that if you ā– ā– ā– ā–  up whilst driving then its your own fault not anyone elses, maybe i’m old fashioned. And BTW, if the car driver is driving on the hard shoulder then he has plainly missed his turn, he’s not just ā€˜late’, he’s missed it. Won;t somebody think of the HATO’s and emergency services on the hard shoulder? The car driver should really be banned for pulling a stunt like that. The sooner we get longer trailers it’ll make stuff like this much more fun for the Mr.Magoo drivers.

That is true, but a phone call reporting the alleged incident to the operator of the lorry would probably see the driver facing disciplinary action. That is far too common now, both the reporting and the disciplinary action :unamused:

That, to me, is just wrong, how can a company take the word of an anonymous person, a person that has no credentials as an examiner or law enforcement official, yet their judgement of a driver can result in all sorts of problems for the driver concerned :unamused:

My company has the ā€˜how’s my driving’ stickers on some of our trailers. I sat down with our Safety and Compliance Director and asked him what would happen if someone was to call in an alledged incident. He said that depending on the nature of the incident the response would be different. I mentioned that in that case he was acting as the Judge, so surely he couldn’t take any action unless twelve people had reported the incident, as that is what you need to make up a jury. I was told not to be a smart arse

Was the car a BMW by any chanceā– ā– ?

^^ This.

I’d only add that I might report it if it had gone ā– ā– ā– ā–  up, not involving contact with the lorry. The full - UNEDITED - video could be used to see if there was wrong doing by either party.

I have a camera that’s normally in my truck and is normally recording, I’ve seen some absolutely stupid things, but not bothered to save anything yet, once the time has passed and I’ve bitched about the numpty on here or facebook or the phone, I’m usually calm enough not to give a ā– ā– ā– ā–  anymore.

It sounds to me like the car driver was a complete muppet and got tought a lesson, as NMM jokingly said, if this happened more often, then maybe driving standards wouldn’t be so bad.

I’d like to see Fully Comp insurance scrapped, as too many muppets drive like complete ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  and screw up, write off 60 grand motor, claim on insurance and drive like muppets again.
If they had to pay for it out of their own pocket, they might not.
Also, get rid of all safety systems, no seat belts, no air bags, no side impact protection, no plastic bumpers, and watch the driving standards improve as people get hurt.

Who here hasn’t had some richard head brake testing themā– ā– ? Who then hasn’t also been tempted to (or actually done) put their feet up on the dash whilst richard head brake tests them, cruise control still set …  Oh, my bad, I better go stack shelves :smiling_imp:

I think the government should spend less on advertising about how we should think about ā€˜bikes’ (most ride like they are on a race track not a public road) and spend it on educating the general public on what a HGV can and cant do/safe distances etc rather than stupid adverts saying look 3 times just in case a leather clad power ranger is doing 0-70 in 3 seconds.

+1

if bike riders were sinsible on the road then wouldnt have to think about them so much while they are weaving in and out of the traffic at 90 mph

Not all us bikers ride like ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  !
I’ve been riding for nearly 35 years. I ride my large & very fast bike sensibly as I want to live a lot longer.
I treat with disdain the prats on sports bikes with matching leathers, most of them only recently passed their test who then bought a sports bike to ease their midlife crisis. Thet do indeed ride like morons and bring a bad image to real bikers.

Its odd but I feel more at risk of serious harm when driving my artic on a m’way than I do on a country lane on my bike.

Sorry, i cannot see where he was defending the driver. He made a point and also expressed his opinon on the incident. My best advice to you and i know from experience as i was a victim on here before, if you post anything on this forum please expect replys that you don’t like.

There are a few good posters on here who agree/disagree and theirs a few who take post’s to heart and cry, and take it out on road users, but have a think before you post, and READ the posts before you reply!.

As a motorcyclist myself, i find the ones who ride like there on a race track are known as weekend warriors. These people only bring out their bike when it is sunny and dry on the road. They go about at speeds of 100mph plus risking there own life and others around them, just for that little ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  .

oh, the reason why they advise you to look 3 times before you pull out is because in the distance we look small, and it’s only until we get 10ft closer, we then look big. That is why they advise you to look 3 times before pulling out. I always tell drivers to double check before pulling out for ALL motor vehicles

I have to admit, I ride like I stole it. Well, not at moment, I’m between bikes.

The reason is, that’s where I get my thrills on a bike, and that’s why I’m on the bike, so that’s what I do.

BUT, I am hardly a weekend warrior or in a midlife crisis, I’ve literally rode in all weathers, I rode for a living (courier), I’ve probably done as many miles on a bike as most people ever will in their cars, but I get my kicks from acceleration and that grip on a corner where the suspension is compressing and it just feels amazing.

I do find it’s about time and place though, and although I am in clubs and usually in a group at the start and end, I don’t ride in a group when I want to go quick, we arrange meeting points along the route and I bugger off :grimacing:

i once got an indicated 177 mph out of a gsxr 1000…beat that :grimacing:

I maxxed out a 911 Carrera on the M3, 186mph according to the speedo and the spec sheets, wasn’t a happy occaision though, saw a jam sandwich on the hard shoulder so started slowing down very quickly, unfortunately I never saw the unmarked Vauxhall Senator that I passed at 139.7mph until he lit me up with the blue lights in his grille  Big fine and a ban
