Chris Boardman Calls for

From the times article

Peter John, leader of Southwark Council, where Thursday’s death occurred, said: “There’s a very strong case for saying HGVs shouldn’t be allowed into the centre of London during morning and evening rush-hour.

Good, because then I wont have to go to your bloody waste transfer station to load waste paper/plastic for China, Especialy on a Friday when I’m the only mug who will :unamused:

The truth is, the militant political wing of the cycling fraternity, believe that they are invincible once they have doned theyre lycra armour, right up to the moment when they find out at close hand the tread pattern of a bridgestone R249, other makes are avaliable.

Here is what the cycling fraternity would like to see, I know of at least 1 member that will be salivating as he reads this next link

Ban LGV’s during the rush hour and ban cyclist at all other times, never the twain shall meet. Of course this has to apply to all large vehicles, buses, coaches everything.

Better HGV driver training to deal with cyclists

MMM ? what about trainig for Cyclists :open_mouth: wash my mouth with soap and water :unamused:

at work today in the coach station in Westminster I had seen 2 people on bikes go the wrong way down a one way street and almost get hit by a bus going the correct way now who was at fault ■■

In amongst the usual flotsam, jetsam & utter bollox that is the average TNUK thread, there are a fair few interesting points raised here.

If I may, I’d like to chuck in, “What exactly qualifies Mr. Boardman to be a respected opinion on the problems facing Londons psyclists”?

If you can’t think of a good one, then why bother discussing his opinions?

If you need to ask then you shouldn’t be driving vehicles, assuming you do that is.

Mr Boardman is a high profile name in the cycling world. Former Olympic gold medal winner, Tour de France stage winner & yellow jersey wearer, 1 hour world record holder & technical advisor to British Cycling to name a few of his achievements. Plenty experience of riding the roads of London & other major cities. Chances are if Edward gimpbottom asked boris what he was doing about cyclists safety he would not make the papers.

Why not ban all vehicles from London after all once waggons are banned the next cause of accidents will probably be buses then vans, cars, etc so ban all vehicles. Drop everything on the outskirt and it can be transported by rickshaw type vans, tandems or more for heavy loads.
Of course you may get an increase in cyclist/pedestrian accidents, so all pedestreans must wear hi viz, and a hat with multiple mirrors also a forward facing proximity sensor because they can’t look forward and scan mirrors.
Think of the benefits. Very low pollution, fitter residents.
Then i think we need to build a wall to keep out all the people who want to move to this paradise.

Because im sure last time I checked this forum ,it was a open one , a place to come and chat about the problems and daily gripes that us as drivers face .

Forgive me if I doubt that he has any ‘relevant’ experience of riding the roads of London & other major cities.

I reckon he has much less than an average London cycle commuter.

So what makes him an authority? A respected commentator? A man whose opinion should be listened to?

Is it purely his ‘celebrity’ I wonder?

If it is, then we need an equally celebrious authority on the side of trukkers, & I vote Curryfart.
Lets lock Curryfart, Boris & Chris Boardman in a room, let God sort 'em out.

Are you saying Chris Boardman is on TNUK discussing London psyclists V’s London trukkers?

So obviously the perfect choice to provide a totally unbiased objective view concerning the best way to deal with all the issues. At least from the point of view of the average motor transport hating London local authority like TFL. :unamused:

First the commy zb’s went for the trucks, then they went for the buses, then the cars and then it was all obviously the fault of the pedestrians who could no longer drive anything anywhere and who didn’t want to use a bicycle. :open_mouth:

He is an Olympic cyclist. It’s like saying make Lewis Hamilton transport minister.
He can ride a bike fast Lewis can drive a car fast doesn’t mean they are the best people for the job.

Clue’s in the word “us” !

I agree, let’s ban all lorries from any city that has cyclists, especially Lahndan. I ■■■■■■■ hate driving in Lahndan, and nothing would give me greater pleasure than never having to take a lorry into that ■■■■-hole again! Be interesting to see how long it would take for the whole mess to come tumbling down - I give it 8 hours without any deliveries…

Also, Uncle Boris wants a couple of grands worth of sensors fitted to all lorries to make them “safer” for cyclists.
How about fitting a tuppeny-ha’penny brain to all cyclists instead? That would be cheaper, and who knows, they might even use it when not cycling…

I think would be fair and a good idea if we put Boardman in charge of TFL just so long as Jezza Clarkson can be minister for transport. :smiling_imp:

Unless you know what this picture signifies, no one should be commenting on this thread. :stuck_out_tongue:
