Surprised by some of the replies here - you people earn some cash :exclamation:
I think if you buy cheap, you think cheap, ie’ if I leave them in another motor - they only cost me a fiver’. Pay a couple of bob and it makes you look after them. You wouldn’t catch me cleaning mine on my shirt

Dirty shirt?

Have been known to wear a five dayer
But you know what I mean, proper cloth and all that.

All these really expensive sunglasses can be had for 3euros a pair off the promenade in Salou from a dodgy guy called Del-boy who is as black as the ace of spades and wears a Ghanaian football shirt lol

Them BANDIDO,S are ok off ebay.   and ambervion for low light

You cant beat Serengeti. Have a few pairs and they are excellent. Keep em in a nice case and they’ll last. I have a 5 year old pair that are as good as new

That’s what I’d recommend as decent sunglasses for driving, well made frames and top quality lenses. They do cost a bit but you are paying for the quality not the name and they last. I’ve had mine since 2007 and thy are still in perfect condition partly thanks to that fact you get a decent case with them and I probably would have payed far more over the years for several pairs of inferior makes.

I also have a pair of Revo’s for when I’m riding my motor bike or working in the pit lane, because they fit inside a crash helmet, again had them for a few years and they’ve survived well, again helped by the fact thy came with a decent case.

You’re a luckily man to be able to be able to work in bright sunlight and not use sunglasses.
I never worried about them until I started going to southern Europe and found that I had a headache at the end of the day, so I started using sunglasses and didn’t get a headache, and it’s been the same situation when I’ve been out to the UAE or Bahrain.

Surprised no one has pointed out that some sunglasses can damage your eyes more than wearing none at all.

Glasses with no uv protection and dark lenses fool your eyes into thinking its dark, making your pupils dilate, allowing

more uv in than you would get with no glasses. Price is no guarantee of uv protection.

Question about color - Which ones are better for driving - sun glare after rain and snow - Grey or Bronze ?

3 years later…

I’ve always had RayBans and Oakleys but tried on a pair of Serengeti’s the other day - amazing!

I had a pair of Serengeti’s for nearly 10 years, they’re still in good nick although the case is a bit battered it’s done it’s job of looking after the glasses.

Well put together glasses and really good in strong sunlight or glare through clouds and not to dark for changing conditions. I’ve been given other sunglasses but keep the Serengeti’s for driving.

Oakleys all the way. Don’t even feel like I’m wearing them. Tough as rigger boots too, gave my old pair a battering working in Oz.

Wouldn’t buy a cheap pair for everyday use ever again.

A.

There’s a real reason cheap sunnies aren’t good news. It’s to do with non visible radiation protection. Cheap ones with little or poor quality protection are worse for your eyes than no sunglasses. The darkness causes the pupil to dilate which lets in even more radiation through the poor or non existent protective layer than the naked eye. Expensive sunnies with good protection still cause the dilation but block a lot of the radiation.

Always buy decent quality for jobs like driving/train driving/ship/aviation crew etc.

If, like me, you scratch/damage/sit on items on value clumsily, try wearing contact lenses, this will reduce the cost of a decent set of sunglasses from the prescription region of £100-£400 to sub £50, including polarised/anti reflective etc.

Took about a month to get used to, but wouldn’t be without them now!

^ This.Italy in mid summer is as bright as it needs to get.I’ve always used the most expensive mirror lens type ones I can find and then later I bought some Adidas curved ski sports type which are so good I’ve kept them for years and which luckily sit behind the glasses I’ve used more recently. The result usually being that I often get laughed at because of the two white untanned areas around my eyes in the summer.

The best way to gauge the quality of sunglass lenses is to hold them a few inches away from your eyes and look at a straight vertical through every part of the lens.Any distortion means your eye will have to compensate every time. This can lead to eye fatigue-I was told this by an optician. As a bit of an aside…although the glasses worn in Top Gun are Ray Bans, the US military used to supply pilots with sunglasses made by Randolph Engineering.

I bought some Oakley ones after buying cheap £30 ones and there is no comparison , the oakleys are awesome cost £200 but worth every penny imo
